  1. My key is to play the big games ... BIG! Every time last year we had a chance to take the division, we choked. Right after the Crede GW homer against the Tigers, we were in first place heading into the dreaded Torii Hunter Twins series. And well, we pissed down our legs in that series. It seemed every time we could showcase ourselves on National TV, we also choked. On the Sunday night ESPN game against the Mariners is when Billy Koch walked the bases loaded and the winning run in. Then against the Red Sox on National TV we got swept. Again in Wrigley, 4th of July, National TV ESPN Sunday night audience, we were swept by the damn Cubs. I was there, painful walking through the streets of Wrigleyville that night in my Sox gear. My wife nearly clocked this frat guy Cub fan who almost grabbed her Sox visor off of her head. Anyways, I feel when we need to, we need to step up and show we belong in the playoffs with the elite teams. The same thing happened in 2003 when were went up to the Hump dome in September.
  2. I live in the NW suburbs and would like to go to one of the bars around the Cell when I go to one of my Ozzie's nine games this year. Besides Jimbos, what are some of the other ones that you can walk to (safely) before and after the games.
  3. KW: Yo Oz, shizzle my nizzle you Venezualean dizzle. OG: I told Freddy at Xmas dinner that if he wants free stuff make sure he listens to how Hawk and Farmio do it. Them guys would talk up a golf store for a free bag of tees.
  4. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Doesn't this Scott guy work for whitesox.com? I believe he works for MLB.com and is the beat reporter for MLB.com for the White Sox. His articles are supposedly not reviewed or do not have any input from the team, but something is awfully "homerish" about everything written by him. But if you're going to the Sox website for information, it is expected it will be slanted in favor of the team.
  5. Maybe one with Ron Kittle and Greg Luzinski? I still haven't figured out how to load one, but I would appreciate it.
  6. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Seriously, I'm not so sure which one is more disgusting. No disrespect MOS, but I just don't get the whole Paris thing. Though Courtney looks a bit like Jani Lane on a weekend bender circa 1990. A Jani Lane reference. Impressive!!!
  7. Shortstop for sure. I am not sold on Juan Uribe and I feel he will fall into a sophomore slump. Actually, he was a bit rough the second half of last year. He is the perfect utility infielder. He's Hispanic for Craig Grabeck. Nice player, but no star.
  8. Not to defend him. I think steroids are disgraceful to the game, but when Canseco was with us in 2001, he was the most exciting player we had for about a month. When he would come in to pinch hit, the park was electric in anticipation.
  9. It was the usual fare (pun intended). But I always find these shows so interesting. The couples getting it on the backseat, other people pouring their hearts out the the cabbie, willing to reveal their most intimate thoughts.

    Crede

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) I hope Joe Crede beats you with a baseball bat to show how much improved he is for 2005. And after hitting him in the head with a bat .... his head pops up to the second baseman for an easy out and the end of another Sox rally.
  11. What were all the movies that featured the Sox or Comiskey Park or the Cell? Obviously everyone remembers Eight Men Out and Field of Dreams. The others I can remember are: My Best Friend's Wedding - I think Julia Roberts was a waitress in the SkyBox Watch It - This is very, very funny, but unwatched movie - but one couple were seen kissing at the Cell while fireworks went off overhead.
  12. I am not a smoker but that seems a bit excessive. If someone does something legal in their personal life, then so be it. Now they should have to pay higher insurance premiums. My only beef with smokers that when a smoker I work with feels the need for a cigarette and does the following: Goes to find someone to smoke with - 5 mins Gets coat - 2 mins Waits for, then takes the elevator to the ground floor - 5 mins Walks outside - 2 mins Smokes - 5 mins Walks inside - 2 mins Waits for, then takes the elevator back to their floor - 5 mins Puts coat away - 2 mins That's 28 mins for one smoking break. And many take three a day. Plus they also make sure they take their full lunch.
  13. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Why torment yourself like this? It didn't happen. Politics always plays a role in publicly funded stadiums & that's why the Cell is where it is. If it had been built in Addison the Sox would probably avg 30K a game easy. The area is populous & wealthy. But it didn't happen. Move on. OK ... just posting a question. Just wondering what people's thoughts are. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.
  14. Speaking for myself, I probably would to the same amount of summertime weekend games, because we usually do something downtown before or afterwards. But I would for sure go to a bunch of weekday games that I currently have no way of going to because it is logistically impossible.
  15. Before Comiskey II was built, there was much talk of the Sox moving to Addison. The Sox did a study that 60%+ of their fan base that used to live on the Southside, now lived in DuPage County and the Northwest Suburbs (where I live). Anyways, my question is do you think the Sox attendance woes during the last decade would have been any different if their stadium was in the suburbs?
  16. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) I liked Wills but the "Sox chip on his shoulder" post earlier pegged it pretty good. The only on-air personality I couldn't do without is Rooney. The rest, especially DJ and Farmer, can go. I fully agree with those saying he was too much of a homer. After the last game last year, people wanted to call and say the Sox choked or didn't live up to expectations and he said he wouldn't take any negative calls or say anything negative about the team. Go ahead and remove your lips from the Sox brass ass and head to Florida. Please, please, please take Basball Pants Ed Farmer with you.
  17. :finger No matter what the Cubs ALWAYS get the benefit of the doubt in the media and the SOX always get the bad view.
  18. The Cubs deal with Burnitz is almost official. That leaves Detroit as Maggs' only option. Hindsight it 20/20, but he should have signed what the Sox offered him long ago.
  19. 1. Blackhawks ... by far Although I would like to see the logo of Bill Wirtz's red bulbus head on their jerseys. 2. Orlando Solar Bears 3. White Sox (Especially the sleeveless uniforms) 4. Green Bay (I hate to say it, but the Green/Gold home uniforms are pretty nice) 5. San Diego Chagers (Powder Blue Unis only)
  20. And they still needed a fifth starter.
  21. I have tix to the Saturday Oriole game and depending on how the Sox are dong at that point, and the weather, that game might get 75% full. The Friday and Sunday games might have 20,000 fans. That first game back, the game that all the media will be camped out at the Cell to cover Sam-Me's return, the day the Sox fans get to be the first story on the news that night, there might be 15,000 people there. It's just our dumb Sox luck. The next day in the paper I can already envision Mariotti's column saying there were more Sosa jerseys in the crowd than Sox fans.
  22. This has only to do with money wagered. For years when the Cubs or Red Sox absolutely sucked, their odds were actually not that bad to win the World Series. Because of the sentiment, or curses, or big fan bases, or whatever, those teams always have a lot of money bet on them. We have to win the division this year. If we don't, I think it might be KW's last season in the big chair.
  23. See Barry Rozner's article today: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/col_rozn...?intid=38380245
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) How many Major league at-bats do you have? About 1 less than Joe Borchard should have. Interesting article. But, Daryl Boston. Ahh all the fond Sox memories of Daryl Boston.
