QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) For a huge price. I don't care how badly the Reds suck, it will take a nice package to land Dunn. Did Dunn just sign an extension? What's his contract status?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Looking at Mac's numbers this year, he would look to be a great pickup, and like Fathom said, certainly not out of the question. I would also like to throw Adam Dunn's name out there again. While he is an OF, he is a LH bat who hits for a TON of power, and while has alot of K's, also a good number of walks. With that, the entire Reds team is up for sale, so he can defenitly be had. I was listening to the radio this morning and there was talk about Dunn becoming available. Of course this was when the Cub fans were talking about saving their season...

While Mackowiak would be a decent addition, I really think we need to add to the middle of the order or power in general. Our middle of the order is atrocious. In reality, the expectations for Carl were/are too high. Outside from his Texas/Sox season a few years back, he's quite bad. I know we all wish he would return to that, but he hasn't and doesn't look to. Frank is a big question mark still. Dye is not the answer in the middle of the order either. Pauly is Pauly, but he can't do it by himself. Chavez would be perfect. Moves everyone down a slot in the order and makes this offense respectable. I hope it becomes feasible. Adding what we hope is a healthy and productive Frank and Eric Chavez. Wow. All this Fields talk about how he's the long term solution and people don't want to take on a long contract like Chavez because of Josh, Fields is still very raw and might never be the answer. To worry about whether a player like Chavez blocks Fields' path in 3 years is nuts, in my opinion. If Fields turns out to be solid, the Sox will find a way to play him or trade him for something we need.

QUOTE(valponick @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) I wouldn't go that far. Our style of play demands solid pitching, and like it or not we aren't going to be blowing many teams out, we are going to win a lot of close games, that is just a product of how this team plays baseball. It's just a product of how s***ty this offense is.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) I would agree with that if we were 162 games into the season. It's gotten to the point where our pitchers have to almost be perfect in order for us to be in control of a game. 11 runs in the last 5 games..."It's broken...now fix it."
-
QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Here we go again. I'm just saying... This offense is ridiculously bad...
-
Anyone who doesn't want a trade because they stand by "if it's not broke don't fix," needs to reexamine this team...
-
Carl is really good.
-
Carl...please do something.
-
Tremendous execution...

QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) As long as we keep winning more games than we lose.....KW and Ozzie won't even think about making changes. It's a shame though...our pitching deserves a lot more support than they are receiving. Mmm...I disagree. I think Kenny will make at least 1 move by the deadline. Kenny is never satisfied, it seems.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 26, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) I can understand that argument. I see both sides of this issue very well. Why f*** with something that has worked so well? The offense has not been great, but whatever is working, is working. And then if you do make the trade I suggested above, you may have to make another trade then too...trying to fix something that is working awesome can sometimes cause for breakage. In the end, I probably would make not move...but it is intriguing to think about, nonetheless. If it's not Chavez, then no 3B please. Randa and Lowell appear to be the alternatives, as well as Castilla, and all of those have obvious downers consisting of age, contract status, etc. However, by acquiring a Chavez-type, KW wouldn't be trying to "fix" anything. He would be trying to IMPROVE the team. Just because something is working well, does not mean it can't work better. Simply substituting Chavez for Crede is an tremendous upgrade. There is no downside to that. Hopefully KW goes after Chavez and Chavez only. No one else at the hot corner, please.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 25, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Im a little confused how one player can guarantee us a WS rings... maybe a healthy bonds, so we can trade B-Mac for Bonds if he recovers fully lol... but that still doesnt guarantee it, dumb thread Geeze...It's a hypothetically question, nothing more. I'd trade the whole farm for a WS ring...

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ May 24, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Joe Randa could be had for so, so much cheaper and the Sox would not have to give up any outfield prospects or an A pitching prospect. You could easily see a Tracey for Randa trade going down, and Randa wouldn't kill team payroll for years to come. A Chavez deal would obviously not be a stopgap trade. If the Sox feel that Konerko will be looking for 10-11 mil in the offseason then hello Chavez, bye bye Konerko...

QUOTE(BuehrleTheAce @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Crede, Viz, and Shingo for Chavez? I'd do it in a heartbeat. If Oakland wanted a prospect too, then I want Huston Street thrown in. Street thrown in? Beane would laugh at that. Street wouldn't be traded for Shingo AND Viz. Teams don't throw away their best players for another team's trash which Crede, Viz, and Shingo are right now. Also, KW won't deal from his beloved bullpen, unless its Cotts.
-
Does anyone else recall that when KW was talking about Hudson/Mulder with Beane, that Beane wasn't interested in BMac? I thought I remembered that... Anyways, Chavez is a complete stud. Gold Gloves galore and he's just entering his prime. He may be struggling but its not easy to be THE man on a very weak offense and an overall bad team. Not to mention hitting in OAK. Chavez could do mad things in our lineup and in the Cell. Before the season, JR/KW repeated that there IS money to spend to pick up additional talent. With attendance up already this year, and the Sox possibly on the verge of breaking through, I really don't think $8 million more to the payroll is a stretch. With all that said, if I were KW, I would do everything possible to keep BMac. If that meant giving up Anderson and Tracey then so be it. With Byrnes rumors rampid throughout the off season, I could really see Beane wanting either Sweeney or Anderson. Beane got his deals done for pitching prospects. To unload his best offensive player on a bad offensive team, you gotta think he'd be looking for mostly offense in return, no? Anderson might very well be his target. I would LOVE Chavez...absolutely love him.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Garland's loss was not totally underserved in my opinion. Gave up 11 hits tonight is pretty unaccpetable. Granted at least two of those should have been caught. Also, santana is not a ''s***bag'' pitcher. If Garland keeps a team to 3 runs in 7 IP, I don't care if he gives up 20 hits.
-
QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Tip your hat to Jonny G, he battled all night, gave another quality outing, and the offense f***ed him. :finger you Joe Crediocre and Juan Uribe I wouldn't go as far as to blame it on Crede and Uribe. If we are gonna rely on our 8/9 hitters to win ballgames for us, we are gonna suck major ass the rest of the way out.
-
QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) I know our O isnt that great right now, but still, its really impressive for a guy straight outta AA Our O sucks...
-
Game over...
-
Another quality start for Big Jon...too bad he's gonna lose this one.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Keep in mind everyone, this is only one loss. Jon Garland is at worst 8-1, we are at worst 31-14, and we got Buehrle going tomorrow. This is a first place team we are playing. This is a s***ty pitcher we are facing with a team without the MVP...This is an average team tonight that we are facing. We should be able to win this game.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Who should, when Rowand is out? Not Konerko. Dye, maybe. Pierzynski? Not Timo/Crede/Uribe. Why not let the Konerko-AJ-Dye trio that has been on fire of late hit 3-4-5 while Aaron sits out a game? Instead of having the slumping Everett hitting 3.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) That ball couldn't have been hit harder. It was just bad luck for Everett. Ok, overall Carl has failed...Frank's presence is needed.

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) That ball was scalded. He failed...
