  1. Every breaking ball he threw except for his drop down sliders, seemed to hang in the inner portion of the plate. Watching the game, I was surprised we weren't down 8 when he left the game.
  2. Addition from within...A Luis like last year would be great. Looks like we've upgraded our pen already.
  3. I wonder if JR & KW will start learning for this year's and last year's trading deadlines. Instead of trading loads of talent for good SPs midseason, maybe they'll sign one prior to the season next season...
  4. "Philadelphia Phillies Updated:07/18/2005 Just in case the Phillies hold a fire sale before the trade deadline, the Red Sox have been scouting closer Billy Wagner, while Texas has started monitoring pitcher Vicente Padilla, according to the Bucks County (PA) Courier-Times. The newspaper said 1B Jim Thome would probably drop his no-trade clause only for a few teams, perhaps the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians." Per Cbs.sportsline.com Out of those 4 teams, only Cleveland would need a 1B...Stupid reporters suck.
  5. He looked damn good in the field against the Yanks tonight.
  6. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Burnett is now entering his prime as well at the age of 28, whereas, Contreras is older than dirt. I think that Burnett has shown plenty of flashes, and he'd be a good investment for someone like the Tigers or Indians at 10 MIL per. But as far as the Sox are concerned, we can't afford to take on another high dollar SP considering that we're gonna need to lock down both Buehrle and Garland. How much money should be devoted to starting pitching? With AJ on board, too much. If Contreras was involved he alone would be dropping $8.5 million from next year, correct? Yanks sent money in the deal, but that's tied to the team not the player correct? If AJB gets a deal similar to Freddy (i.e. 9/10/11) then we really aren't adding much at all. Lowell on the other hand... Perhaps if Lowell is in the deal, KW can get out of giving up Marte. Perhaps that's why he would consider taking on Lowell. I have a feeling whatever deal goes down, that it will be a good deal different than what we are all led to believe.
  7. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) That is way to much, Marte>>>>Mota. I still think we get ripped off with anything more than Contreras for Burnett straight up. Anyway, I love these next two weeks, we all have no idea what's gonna happen. But we all have a good idea that something will happen. That's what makes it so tough and exciting at the same time. Grrr--Just do something so I can stop thinking about this....
  8. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) A friend in Fla said he heard on the marlins flagship that it might be a bigger trade between the WSox&Marlins.. That Mota,Lowell,Burnett will be coming to the Sox for the Count,Marte, B Mac, Brian Anderson and a lower prospect.. Anyone else heard this rumor That's too much in my opinion. Substitute Owens for Anderson, and then it's more reasonable.
  9. Anyone else heard this rumor Hmm...I always thought KW was after Mota as well as AJB. He tried to get him from LA a couple years ago, and I think I read he fell out of favor in Florida. I would love him on our team.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Indeed. that it happens. No thank you. I pray that we don't have to face the Cards!
  11. QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) 40 man implications? YOu wouldn't give a guy who hits with power and average a chance. When we go to 40 man the sox will bring him up if he's doing well. I could give a damn what his past performance was but if he's turned the corne bring him up. The sox are the slowest when it comes to trying out their minor league talent.. We end up sending them in a deal somewhere else instead of getting the benefit of their play.. Leo Daigle is not coming up this season. Also, the Sox have a long history of rushing their top pitching prospects up to the majors.
  12. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) we will not beat Boston in the playoffs if they get AJ Burnett Most reports say Arroyo will be included in that trade. With Boston's s***ty pen and Schilling's healthy uncertain, I see no reason why even with Burnett we can't beat boston. Pitching wins and Boston has very little of it, even with Burnett. Not to mention their defense is more than suspect...Boston is not a sound team by any stretch.
  13. I hope Boston gets Burnett now. Let them blow their wad on him, and we'll scoop in and pickup Wagner and perhaps still have enough left over for Lilly.
  14. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) anybody here think lowell used roids and thats why he sucks now? The guy battled and won against cancer...I highly doubt it.
  15. This is a valid point. However, the only reason Willie is on the roster right now is because of Crede's back problems. With Pablo the only IF backup, Willie has to be here in case Crede goes down, and Pablo needs to step into 3B. Randa would solve the problem of having a Crede backup and Pablo can focus on his more natural MIF spots. Send Timo down for Gload and you have your LF/RF covered as well as 1B. Willie is a drain on the team and I really really want him off the team pronto.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Exactly. If he goes out there and pitches like s*** (which he did) I would wonder. I think this whole dealing Shingo (at least this weekend) is bull s***. Why? Does it not make sense? It makes perfect sense. He's one of the last options in our pen, and it's been apparent that Ozzie really has no use for him. Meanwhile, some NL team is sitting out there thinking, "You know, Shingo could very well do what he did last year in the AL for us." Shingo hasn't lost his velocity, he hasn't gone John Rocker, he isn't a headcase...he's just lost his edge in the AL. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Shingo revert back to 2004 form almost if traded to a NL team. KW could also be sitting there, about ready to pull the trigger on a guy to take Shingo's spot. God Speed Shingo! We love ya...
  17. It's gonna become pretty obvious that Crede will not be able to play everyday with 2 herniated discs in his back. Now, I love Pablo and his team-first attitude, but for those 2 games a week where Crede and his back need a rest, Ozuna won't cut it. Not for a team who needs some offense. I don't know if Randa is the answer, he could very well be that guy to play 2-3 times a week, but I don't want to be sitting come early September and get news that Joe needs back surgery and then be pretty much f-ed with Pablo there for the stretch run and playoffs. That would be killer. I don't think KW is willing to do that, and I hope he lands a viable second option.
  18. Chill out. His trade value wasn't ruined by 2 batters.
  19. Chacin is from Venezuela...Another Venezuelan connection with Ozzie? Chacin came out of some special Venezuelan baseball academy. I wonder if Ozzie was connected to that in any way.
  20. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) He wants to start. Thats why he left Chicago. They were actually talking about Tony on ESPN1000 in the morning but they said that he left the team on bad terms with KW. Doesnt look like that would happen. Well with Teahen and Gotay on KC, Tony won't get a chance to start regularly either.
  21. Even if we didn't sign Burnett after this season, the trade wouldn't necessarily be a rental in a way. We still free up the $8+ million Jose would have made. That could easily go to someone of similar impact that Burnett would have.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) Here Here...Bring Back TONY! He would be absolutely perfect.
  23. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) From that article: I think Sean Casey would make a huge impact on this team. You want to get rid of Konerko to make room for Sean Casey? I'll gladly pass on that.
  24. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) Man, this is such a tough call. Burnett pitched terribly tonight, and to give up Contreras, Marte and Crede for Burnett and Lowell is pretty tough! Such tough decision! I personally don't think KW does it, but that's just me.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) If there's this many teams still involved, and Burnett has a wicked start tonight, the package for him will be insane. Especially now that Wang is on the DL for the Yankees (although if Pavano can't get it done on Sunday the Yankees might have to realize they have zero shot this year without those two) they might be major players in this with a ton of $$$ going to the Marlins. The Yankees have crap to trade compared to a handful of teams including the Sox. Big Stein won't be able to buy Burnett.
