  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) No way in hell Kenny sends those three guys out in a trade. Stark didn't mean Marte, Cotts, AND Politte as the offer. He said those are the names being shot around....
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) Blown saves. 6 this year already, on his way to his high of 10 in 2003. The Sox bullpen in this department is Marte 3 Cotts 2 Hermanson 1 Politte 0 Vizcaino 3 Takatsu 1 Jenks NA Walker 1 Baez has as many as our two shakiest bullpen guys - Marte and Vizcaino - combined. 30 saves and only 3 blown saves in 2004. This guy is insurance. Politte doesn't like closing, Marte can't close, Cotts no, Shingo bye bye, and Luis well is Luis...This move is to get an experienced closer who has had success doing so. He's not brought in here to close. He's brought in here to be the backup plan to Hermanson if his back troubles continue. If Wagner and Guardado aren't an option then Baez is the next best w/ value left over to acquire Burnett or Huff or whatever...
  3. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) The best deal would still be Schmidt/Vizquel for Contreras, Uribe, and Anderson. As long as we are making up deals, the best deal would be Munoz and Borchard for Schmidt.
  4. Non issue...Thank Jayson for the valuable info!
  5. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Adkins has been absolutely awful this year at Charlotte. I wouldn't want him pitching in the Sox rotation this year. Adkins is 4-8 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in AAA. That's just bad. Another option might be (dun dun dun) Arnie Munoz. He's been up and down this year for Charlotte and his ERA is under 4. Ok I was kidding, he's god awful. We have nothing after BMac. Adkins has pitched and has had a good amount of success in the majors, while BMac has struggled mightily. Adkins at worst, is no worse than BMac in terms of coming up and giving us a few starts. (0-1 8.14 ERA) Adkins 60 IP last season with the White Sox, 4.65 ERA.
  6. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) I don't think we could just froget about Carl like that. He has not hurt us. Carl would get plenty of ABs. He'd be able to rotate with Pods, Rowand, Dye, Konerko, and Overbay...
  7. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Don't know if this has been posted anywhere, but in the 1 pm hour the Score said the sox were scouting Lyle Overbay as well as Aubrey huff. Whether MIL would do something like that who knows. But 3b is a real need for them, and Josh Fields could play a part of such a deal. He'd be a yr away for them. Overbay's bat, hitting for high avg and great OBP would fit in nicely on the sox, even with Frank and CArl around this yr. With Everett likely gone after this yr, PK and Overbay could split time at 1b and DH. Maybe it's just another name tossed in the rumor mill. Yet Overbay I'm sure could see some AB's this yr somehow, esp if Frank is gone for a while. Overbay would be our best hitter...gotta be in the lineup everyday.
  8. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Here are the stats for Overbay & Huff: Overbay- In 90 games: .289 avg, 15 hr's, 50 rbi's, .390 obp, 0 sb Huff- In 95 games: .263 avg, 11 hr's, 54 rbi's, .322 obp, 8 sb More importantly, could someone post their ridiculously different contracts...Adding Overbay while saying good bye to Konerko would not only be an upgrade at 1B and a LH bat in the lineup, but free up..ooo..~8 million. What I would do for Lyle Overbay...
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Overbay would be a perfect short and long term fit for the White Sox. Plus with the duel successes of the Pods/Viz-Lee trade, I could see these teams matching up for another deal as the Brewers would like to free up some spots for their big prospects, and the Sox would like a shot at some of their players. Overbay AND Turnbow you say??
  10. I think the real question is: Would Huff/Overbay over Everett help more than Burnett/Schmidt over Contreras? I say no, but then again we would have Huff or Overbay for more than just this season which may not be the case for Burnett. If we were able to swing for one of each, the dream would continue...
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) Swing a 3 way. No way I'm giving up BMac and Contreras because we would have no insurance.
  12. QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) If thats the case, we can't wait to the deadline on Sunday. Shingo's 10 days will be up on Thursday and he'll become a free agent. I guess the longer he stays with us.....the better chance they'll be a big move on on the 28th??? Perhaps...I think it's just a case of KW holding onto another bargaining chip for as long as he can. If a larger deal with Shingo doesn't happen by the Thursday deadline, I'm sure KW has some other backup plan. Perhaps shipping Shingo to ARZ for a spect...
  13. Perhaps a move in the offseason to replace Frank at DH...Money is still way too much.
  14. I've got to believe KW is holding onto Shingo in a potential Giants deal or Florida or something else we don't know about. I would think it wouldn't be hard to just dump Shingo for a spect if KW really wanted to do that.
  15. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) I have a feeling KW is flying under the radar and he will get someone we have not mentioned on this board for less price than Burnett. I don't know, we've discussed pretty much everyone. Guardado, Wagner, Schmidt, Burnett, Vizquel, Huff, Overbay, blah, blah...I don't think even Kenny can fly that far under the radar.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) You were lookin good until you stretched it at the end there. BMAC is better than Adkins as a starter. Right now? I would disagree. Adkins has been at the major league level. He's pitched here, and pitched relatively well. Last season 62 IP and a 4.65 ERA. If we need a SP for 2-3 starts with El Duque on the shelf, I would have more confidence in Adkins than BMac, personally. EDIT: We don't need a dominant starter for those 2-3 starts. We just need a pitcher that will keep us in the game for 5 innings and then turn it over to the pen. Brandon continually gave up large leads and the 8 HR's in 24 innings is well, not good. Heck you could take Adkins for 4 and Jenks for 2 if need-be. I guess the main point is, BMac is no insurance.
  17. Why are a bunch of people nervous about giving up both Contreras and BMac? BMac's El Duque's insurance? What kind of insurance? 0-1 w/ 8.14 ERA insurance. I could understand if you just don't want to give up BMac because he's a top pitching prospect and will eventually be good, but don't give me this insurance excuse. The only insurance BMac provided this year was a worm body and an arm to throw the ball to the plate. If El Duque goes down, god forbid, Jon Adkins can step in and provide better insurance than BMac did.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) Would you guys do Contreras, Bmac, Sweeney and say Valido for Schmidt and Vizquel. I must say, I'd definately think long and hard about it. Mainly because I want Vizquel badly Plus Schmidt is a total horse and wouldn't be a 3 month rental. Yes
  19. .300!!!!!!!!!! We have a hitter at .300!!!! Screw you nah sayers...
  20. Leave it to the worst hitter in the AL to kill the rally...
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Willie Timo Gload Pick one. Willie. He's only here right now because of Crede's back situation. Lowell takes care of that.
  22. With Lowell, if Ozzie chooses to sit Pods against a LHP, Lowell can slide into the DH and Carl into LF. That way Ozuna does not have to be the one in LF and leading off. Whether Ozzie still chooses to do that, we could have a pretty tough lineup vs. LHP... Rowand Iguchi Everett Konerko Dye Lowell Crede Widger Uribe We all know Konerko would be in the 4 hole even though he sucks vs. LHP, that's why I left him there.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) That will be very huge against guys like Santana. Especially with Pauly being abismal against LHP: 77 AB vs. LHP .182 AVE .315 OBP .364 SLG 14 H 2 2B 4 HR 10 RBI 14 BB 18 K
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) He crushes lefties and holds his own against righthanders. 70 ABs vs. LHP .343 AVE .395 OBP .557 SLG 24 H 9 2B 2 HR 20 RBI 8 BB 5 K In a a season where he has overall been a huge disappointment, those numbers vs. LHP are ridiculous.
