  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Do not forget 2 things about Jose... 1. He is a free agent after next year. Which means it is entirely possible that if we don't use him as trade bait, he'll disappear and we'll have nothing to show for it. 2. He is also getting up in years. We don't know exactly how old he is (Cuba again), but he has a lot of mileage on that arm. Who is to say that his arm won't finally give out one of these years? But still, taking him out of this rotation would create a major hole. No one on the FA market would fill it. BMac in all probability can't fill it either. Where would we be this second half without Jose Contreras? When there are offensive players that can fill our needs on the FA market, I would hope we'd go that route instead of trading away important talent.
  2. Do we actually want to give up Contreras? Blalock is a stud and I love him, but Jose's turned into something special this second half. We can't fill his shoes on the FA market. Not next year's FA market. Personally, I'd much rather sign Mueller, and make our usual one trade for Overbay. Would it be too much to ask for the Sox to sign Mueller and Giles, trade for Overbay, and DH Dye?
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) If the Sox continue to slump and not make the playoffs, I think it's safe to say that PK won't be back. If that's the case, then I don't want to see Everett and Thomas brought back. Rather, a new batch of players could be brought in with that freed up money. My sentiments exactly....Giles and Overbay with Jermaine DHing...
  4. QUOTE(twisted @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) This si why you guys get no respect in chicago or baseball you had the division in your hands now you are sweating to hold on to it! Oh so that's the reason...!!!
  5. There will be no sweep for either team...
  6. 4 innings from 2.5 ahead. We won't score. Lohse is a Cy Youn candidate.
  7. Santana is completely unravelling...He walked Iguchi. Time to get the pen up Gardenhire.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) The indians didnt start Timo Perez for all of August. In fact the only team outside of an Ozzieball team that he would play for is the Royals. What team would have Everett as their 3 hole hitter outside of us. Remember all the talk about having a few automatic outs at the end of the lineup was okay because they can throw some leather. Matt Stairs>>>Carl Everett
  9. Good lord El Duque blows. Gonna reach 90 pitches in the 4th inning to a bad offensive team. Is there any chance we can pawn him to any team for any prospect this offseason?
  10. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) wheres the optimism Reason for it is........?
  11. I assume you are taking it at IU...? Public Speaking or Business Presentations? I took the latter at IU. Probably should have taken Public Speaking...
  12. Buehrle is not an ace. There are few true "aces" out there. Buehrle is a great #2 pitcher. He would complement a true ace like Santana, Schilling when healthy, Willis, Carpenter, Clemens, Peavy, Smoltz, etc. great, but Buehrle alone is no ace. He's not quite in the upper echelon of starting pitchers. Yes, he had a tremendous first half, but other than that, his performance throughout his career really doesn't warrent "ace" labeling...Aces are franchise pitchers in my opinion. I don't see Buehrle as that.
  13. The lead will get down to 1 on October 2nd and finish that w
  14. When is paperbag night at US Cellular? I feel like putting one over my head right now...
  15. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I got nothing...and my friend who I told to try and didn't even know about them goin on sale, got 2 for the third game. I'm like why would you only get 2 dude... uggh nucking futs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to go out on a limb and say Game 5 doesnt happen...That would suck for those people who chose to go the game 3 rout.
  16. Got my favorite seats. Game 2...4 seats section 537 row 8....Magnifico! Crunched far in 558 row 10 for game 1 though...
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) But striking out batters isn't the end all to be all to be a succesful pitcher as well. Playoff pitching seems to always favor those with power pitching...
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) The Marlins and the Dbacks won with shutdown pitching. Guys who could strike out guys and could miss a lot of bats. Buerhle and Garland dont fit in that mold. And we've recently seen, relying on this defense will bite you in your ass...
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Running, bunting, sacrificing, etc. That's more how you score runs in the playoffs than in the regular season. See Marlins, Florida. D-backs, Arizona. Walk-offs are great, but most games are won on singles and sacrifices. They all won because of strong pitching, something we aren't getting right now...
  20. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) We still are the bestteam in the AL and I still dont see a problem with the division title(knock on wood). Correction, we have the best record. We certainly aren't the best team right now.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) We need to win this series, need to beat MIn, then cle, and we are home free. Isn't Santana scheduled to face us twice? Me so worried...
  22. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Fathom, you are amazing. Freddie our highest paid pitcher has to go six fricking innings. That's the kind of attitude that will f*** us here in the next few weeks. EVERY win is precious...
  23. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Ozzie, once again, left Garcia in too long. For whatever reason, the Sox seem to love to hire managers that are absolutely clueless when it comes to handling pitchers. Don Cooper for Manager!
