  1. Hermy's back trouble is a big problem. This s*** can't happen come October.
  2. Our O sucks...Griffey or someone similar is needed.
  3. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Let's see now. Griffey has been injured EVERY YEAR of the last how many years?? Sure he's dodged the bullet this year, SO FAR. Does that mean he even makes it to October?? It seems to me you are betting the farm on a highly risky player. And I think Griffey has negative value in subsequent years because he is absorbing money we could spend on more reliable players. Remember Carlos Lee? Wouldn't you rather have him as the DH? Didn't we get rid of him because he was making $8 million/year? I'm not suggesting we reverse the trade for Pods, just that there may be hitters cheaper, but more reliable and a lot younger than Ken Griffey. But let's also look at the marginal value again. 1995 ALDS SEA NYY W 5 23 9 9 0 0 5 7 2 4 .391 .444 1.043 ALCS SEA CLE L 6 21 2 7 2 0 1 2 4 4 .333 .440 .571 1997 ALDS SEA BAL L 4 15 0 2 0 0 0 2 1 3 .133 .188 .133 In 1995, in the prime of his career 10 years ago, Ken Griffey had a great postseason. Then in 1997, when he was still a superstar, Ken Griffey laid an egg. 2 hits in 15 ABs. Remember what happened to Frank Thomas in 2000? MVP season. He and Maggs and Lee couldn't hit a lick in 3 games against Seattle. Griffey sounds sexy because he's a name. He was once good. But trading for such faded stars on their last legs is not the way to build a winning team year after year. It is certainly not worth giving up one of our top prospects. Baseball America lists Chris Young as our 6th best prospect. But he also rates as our best baserunner and best athlete. I'm willing to take my chances in the postseason with Carl Everett if we can't add a bat that costs a whole lot less risk than Ken Griffey. And I believe the Sox will still be kicking ass in 2008 with Chris Young in the outfield and Brandon McCarthy on the mound. Carl Everett--.233 BA & .293 OBP against RHP (215 AB) Timo Perez--.242 BA & .308 OBP against RHP (95 AB) Almost all of us rag on Timo for not being worth a roster spot...Carl's our 3 hitter. Anyone who is comfortable with Carl in the playoffs is crazy.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Also, it would've helped the Sox alot because Griffey is a guy people would go buy tickets to go see on the Southside because he's still a marquee player and cope that with winning and you have butts in the seats. If Frank is done with the White Sox, KGJ would be a stellar replacement in terms of marketability. Griffey is an attraction...
  5. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) The value of Griffey this year is the marginal difference between him and Carl Everett, who will presumably go to the bench if Griffey starts at DH in the ALDS. What is that worth? Something, but not all that much. Griffey trounces Carl in BA, OBP, and SLG. The difference is not even close. Not to mention KGJ hits RH pitchers (.287 BA/.913 OPS) well AS WELL AS LH pitchers (.279 BA/.878 OPS). Carl is absolutely terrible against RH pitching. There is NO comparison....KGJ>>>>>>>>>>Carl
  6. I don't think Carl is even in the top 5 of hitters on our team. He's bad against righties, first off...Secondly, his pultry ~.300 OBP and .749 OPS in the 3 hole is ridiculous for a team that has 69 wins. Both AJ and Dye would be better in the 3 hole. Both trounce Carl's OBP and OPS. Dye has my vote....We could sure use a big time DH
  7. Did Boston improve any? Did New York improve any? Did Minnesota improve any? Did Los Angelos improve any? Blum is a solid addition compared to what those teams did...
  8. If Adkins pitches like last year, he's going to be a very welcomed addition. Eat up 3-4 innings in certain situations and keep the main guys fresh. Gload wasn't going to see much action anyways...
  9. Get Willie Harris off the team. Addition by subtraction. If Ozzie wants to rest Iguchi, you don't lose all that much with putting in Mackowiak. The drop from Iguchi to Willie is immense. Can't have that.
  10. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) I read in today's Sun Times that Cooper said Hermy's back is 100% now. I don't think our BIG trade should be for a closer. I'd like it to be for a DH bat, then Vizquel, then maybe pick up get a 7th or 8th inning guy. Cotts, Politte, 'Big Bobby" Jenks and Hermy.....that's not too shabby right there. If K-Dubs landed Huff, Vizquel and a bullpen arm, I wouldn't know how to act. With so few options out there and so many teams buying, I'm not gonna get my hopes up for more than 1 trade.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 03:06 AM) You have no problem giving up Rowand, Politte, and, Everett(for hypothetical purposes only), while taking on that $15+ mill, with those 3's salaries taken out? No problem with Timo becoming the full-time DH(since I'm sure that's exactly what Ozzie would do, because Timo's a grinder)? Manny's a hell of a good hitter...probably the best pure hitter in the AL, second best in the majors to Big Al, since we have no idea what Bonds is going to do off the juice. But he is not worth 2 everyday players and the best statistical reliever in the game. Well judging by what the rumors are in the proposed three way deal right now, that wouldn't be anything close to the deal that it would take. I don't think Carl would be wanted by either team to tell you the truth. Rowand, Marte, and 2 top spects is more than the proposed Cameron and 2 spects coming from the Mets for Baez and Manny.
  12. I'd happily give up a huge package for Manny Ramirez if JR is willing to do it. There are only a couple players that impact a team more than Manny.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) For a guy who's going to pitch, at most, 40 innings down the stretch? Again... I'm not so sure. BTW, though Marte is still struggling, he's still striking out over ten per nine IP. He's been wild, but for the most part, has been able to overcome his wildness by his stuff. It's a tough call. I'm glad I'm not the GM. Personally, I'd rather overpay for a bat -- someone who's going to effect this team every day, rather than once every three nights... 40 innings that you know will be shutdown innings. 40 innings could mean 30 saves from Wagner. The guy is unbelievable. Rivera is kind of an important piece on the Yankees. Imagine that on our club. Wagner is that.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) 2005 White Sox Version. f*** Dusty. How about some black and white lettering?
  15. QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Jayson Stark was on Sportscenter a little while ago and said as of now, the Sox are involved in just about every major trade. I wonder what this means...Griffey?Wagner?Huff? I guess we will have to wait and see. Good, way to be KW...
  16. Huff to Red Sox...Manny out of AL...Soriano to White Sox...The ultimate swap-a-roo
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) Actually you're wrong. Tivo is a beautiful thing. Red Sox: Aubrey Huff Mets: Manny Ramirez, Danny Baez Devil Rays: Prospects. Yep, that was it. I want Huff, but Manny out of a the AL and more importantly a Red Sox uniform? That would be a gift in itself.
  18. I don't think this is anything like 2000, at least to me. Injuries and guy's coming way back down to earth fast, was the reason for their mediocre 2nd half... Side note: I just watched Game 1 vs. Seattle again yesterday for the first time since 2000 and saw Jim "Butter" Parque take the mound in Game 1. Jim Parque...on the mound...in the first game...of a playoff series. I saw Ray Durham move to his right after the first batter of the ballgame, Rickey Henderson, hit a groundball 3 feet to Ray's left. Zero pitching and Zero defense...How we slugged our way to 95 wins was amazing.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) 1.) I'll be pissed if Wickman goes to Boston. I'd stand up, wave my arms and cheer. Chubby Bob Wickman trying to nail down playoff wins??? The Sox would never be out of a ballgame against the Red Sox...
  20. Could you imagine the buzz if JR/KW got Manny? Incredible... I believe any trade would start with Rowand and BMac. They obviously are gonna want some major league talent for Manny. Rowand and Marte would be attractive to Boston. With Damon being a FA next season, Rowand could be their next CF. Red Sox need pen help and would love to have Marte especially with the release of Embree. If JR was willing to take on an extra 14 million (Rowand's & Marte's salaries subtracted and Boston picking up 6-7 million) would Rowand, Marte, BMac, and another prospect (Owens/Sweeney?) be a package Boston couldn't refuse? All this sounds like a strange situation and Manny likely won't be going anywhere, but it's interesting to discuss nonetheless...
  21. Phil Rogers will be on the Score after the 3:20 update to talk about the trade situations...Tune in.
  22. Coop is on the Score right now taking questions from callers. He was asked about if the trade rumors have effected any of the pitchers on the team. He said that the trade rumors got to Damaso and that he's starting to come out of it. Blah Blah...
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Sox and Twins won't be trading with each other. I know, just an interesting idea...
  24. I know this is a little extreme and probably will never happen, but if we do acquire Lowell with Florida picking up a large portion of his salary, assuming Marte is in the deal, Lowell spun to Minnesota for J.C. Romero? I know they want a 3B bad, and Romero would be the perfect replacement for Marte. I know it would never happen, but it really is a perfect fit for both teams...
