  1. This is a blockbuster. We acquire our top notch SP that we want w/o giving up any prospects, or at least none of any magnitude. With that said, there would still be more than enough to trade for, say, Wagner. What is up with Lowell? This guy is a very good player and has just been crappy at the dish thusfar.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) I'd be more inclined to trade Marte as well. His numbers seem real deceiving. Yet from all accounts, a FLA scout was in CHi for the A's series. No Marte I would center a deal for Burnett around either Cotts or Marte. Doesn't matter to me.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) I like Cotts too. Yet if you were FLA wouldn't you want him when you only have 1 LHP? Jenks would be a nice guy for a non contending team that's rebuilding At this point, I might be more prepared to trade Marte than Cotts. When was the last time we could trully trust Marte when he came in? I think he's one of those players who carries more name than talent. He was dominant a few years ago, became known, and has yet to revive his form.
  4. Buehrle-Burnett-Garcia-Garland I'm not particularly scared of Mulder. He wouldn't crack the top 4 above. Carpenter is really good, but being matched up against Buehrle...I'll take our chances.
  5. 1. Mark Buehrle 2. A.J. Burnett 3. Freddy Garcia 4. Jon Garland CL-Billy Wagner SU-Dustin Hermanson SU-Cliff Politte RP-Neal Cotts RP-Luis Vizcaino RP-Shingo Takatsu LR-Jose Contreras Sorry, just wanted to type it out...
  6. Kenny Rogers=contract year Motivation enough...
  7. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) Woth Omars stats he would be leading the team in BA, Hits, and second in Runs and stolen bases. I'll take him. I like Omar. Willie must go, and Ozuna is becoming more and more career-minor leaguer-like. Put Juan back into the utility role and bounce him around the IF like Carl is in the OF. Our bench would be damn good.
  8. Hell, if JR and KW are willing to buy Day off the Nationals, this would be a tremendous move. No important prospects moving freeing up that much more we have to acquire a real impact player.
  9. As long as the price isn't harsh, why not pick up another SP who's had a decent amount of success? Perhaps KW has decided to stick with Contreras in the 4th spot and with Orlando's health issues and BMac not being ready, Day would be a good backup plan. This could possibly mean that KW is looking to make a major move at the pen and not the rotation which I would prefer. Perhaps he's making a play for Wagner? Day's a heavy sinkerballer. With Garland being very similar, perhaps Day could learn a thing or two from Big Jon.
  10. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) As others have said, I fail to see how a guy with a 5.11 ERA in a pitcher's park in the NL is an improvement and an ace. That is why I root for Schmidt to return to form. I don't think KW will touch Schmidt in current form, but if he does return to form, he would be an another ace that could be added if KW so chose. Root for him to return to form...
  11. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Almost to a man the sox have talked about how great the chemistry is. Whoever is brought in [and the sox will bring in a guy or two] will have a track record of being a team guy Also, with new guys like Pierzynski, Hermanson, Dye, etc, KW can go by their recommendations as well if they were old teammates or know them personally. Pretty convenient that the 2 pitchers that we are supposedly interested in, Schmidt and Burnett, have been recent teammates with either AJ/Hermy or Ozzie. Good references as to character. I don't think that will be an issue.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) You know...every time his name comes up here...I start hoping he'll struggle more, just so that I can stop hearing his name. Boo I say to that. Everytime he pitches you should be hoping he returns to form, thus getting KW more interested, and thus getting us another ace for the postseason. Think positively...
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) Burnett has done squat compared to Buehrle. Contreras and Garcia gets paid more than Mark already. It appears Mark's feelings haven't been heart thusfar.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) Thinking about having to pay Burnett near $10M per year makes we want to just walk away from this deal. Compare Burnett's career to Buehrle's and then go to Mark and say, "Hey, we are going to pay Burnett $10M. What do you think about it?" So we can only sign a pitcher for less than Mark's salary just because we don't want to hurt his feelings? Mark's payday will come. That's the way baseball works, and Mark knows that.
  15. Patterson's a headache and a headcase...No thanks.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) My fault guys. I misread. I thought they meant the Sox would be able to spare some preospects and get Schmidt too. That would quite worthless anyway. If anything was left, Wagner would be my first choice. But that rotation would be the best in quite some time.
  17. Can someone copy and paste the article for those that are restricted by those god damn ratings checks at work? Thanks...
  18. Mark said he was told that only 25 counted, not that he thought 25 counted. I would switch your email after 25.
  19. Just use spam email addresses that you receive in your regular email...
  20. Things change. If Clemens wants to go out on top, what's his best chance? The Sox, Yanks, or Astros? The Yanks are struggling around .500 with management pissed off, rumors running rampit, etc. He could have easily changed his mind.
  21. Bahh...How many rings does Clemens have? He sucks...
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Jose has the tools. Anyone that would question that is foolish. A 95 mph fastball with a knee buckling forkball. The problem is that Jose for whatever mental reason does not want to throw his fastball the minute someone hits it. People are going to hit a fastball no matter how good it is. You still have to challenge the hitters. Jose for the last month and for the majority of his career has crawled into his shell the minute someone turns on his fastball. Then he starts to shake off hitters. He was once demoted in the Yanks organization all the way back to single A so he could work on his confidence and not to tip pitches with Billy Connors. This is a problem that keeps reoccuring. Its pretty sad, if anyone else had this amount of raw talent they would be dominating the league. However for whatever mental block Conteras will be this up and down pitcher until he comes over this fear of using his good stuff. We have seen when he dominates he doesnt shake off pitches, works a bit faster and just throws what is put up there. When he is bad, he shakes off everything, and wants to throw his forkball only. Then he walks, hits people or gets into hitters counts and puts himself into real danger. Everyone is counting on the 3 man rotation in the playoffs. How many teams use a three man rotation throughout the playoffs. Yes for the first series you can do that. But in the ALCS you will need 4 starters. I think even throwing 92-94 Jason Schmidt is a better fit for the whitesox for this year and challenging in the playoffs. He throws strikes and will let this defense that sits behind him make plays. He will not walk the world and get completely lost. I dont want to give up BMAC though, he is insurance this year and for next. If we cant give up Conteras and another prospect for Schmidt I would do it in a second. I however would probably rather have AJ Burnett if it is just going to be a rental. I don't think KW will deal Contreras and BMac in the same deal. That would defeat much of the purpose of trading for Schmidt. If trading Contreras saves us BMac, then trade away. If not, then pass and move along to another option. But let's all hope BMac starts dominating with pin point control, and we wont have to worry about any of this.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Going to look a little more at his stats: Schmidt has made 15 starts on the year and is 6-4 with a 5.11 ERA while sporting a WHIP of 1.59. However, he's still striking out guys at a 8.65 clip per nine innings which tells you aside from the velocity his stuff is there. The big problem is right now he's walking guys at a higher clip. In a full season he'd probably walk 35 more guys this year than he did last year. Now lets look at his past two seasons: 35-12 overall 2003 2.34 ERA 2004 3.20 ERA with 251 strikeouts in 225 innings (just 165 hits) This guy is a total beast of a pitcher. The only question is whether he's 100%. If the Sox get a good medical report, you pick him up and see what a change of scenery can do. Plus he could be a little rusty. However, I tend to think Schmidt is pitching hurt still. Schmidt would have to pass a White Sox team physical to complete the trade The Sox would find out if anything is wrong with Schmidt.
  24. QUOTE(BigNDfan80 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) You're damn right no one has faith in Contreras and EL Duque. Contreras has been awful lately and Duque has been on the DL twice now. How could anyone have faith in them? We need another starter before July 30th. Going into our August schedule scares me a lot if El Duque and Contreras are our 4/5...
