  1. On second thought, keep Freddy in there and pinch hit Frank for Pods or Iguchi.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Anyone think Thomas leads off the ninth inning? I hope so. Unless Freddy breezes through this inning, he should be around 105 pitches. Call it a night and get the big fella an AB. If Oz gives Timo the AB over Frank, it's going to irk me.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) As much as this game is out of reach and everything, I hate to see a guy just give up like that. Oh well... For those not watching, what happened?
  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) I'm looking for production, not legacy. Apparently you are not if you are advocating Carl staying over Frank...
  5. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) Weird, since they're not playing the Yankees for another 2 months. Guess it's more of the national attention that comes with winning. Secret of Their.... http://www.nypost.com/sports/47764.htm Sox-cess http://www.nypost.com/sports/47765.htm Guess they are looking for ways to shove it up Big George's and Cashman's ass...
  6. It better be Everett that's getting traded. Frank's the better hitter and more important to this franchise. Plus, Frank's injuries and contract status doesn't make him a viable option for a decent return in talent.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) ...Like Vinny Castilla. Except he is worthless as well..... back to the drawing board. Castilla is at the bottom of my list....
  8. I hope Crede sucks it up...Right now KW's gotta be flipping out with Joe. Maybe an 0-15 stretch pushes him over the edge. I'm tired of the Joe Crede era. Bring on someone else. Chavez, Randa, whatever...someone that isnt worthless.
  9. QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) no one in MLB makes the number of tough plays that Crede does. Joe, is that you?
  10. QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) I don't think Chavez over Crede is enough of an upgrade to justify sending a guy, who for all strategic purposes this season, is considered in our starting rotation, and is 21 years old. GG, All-Star 3B who's just entering his prime years or 27 year old 3B who's done crap and looks to have gotten worse. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge upgrade. QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) Chavez and Crede are the same age, and I know four Gold Gloves (which are based just as much on reputation and offense as they are on defense) will be thrown at me for saying this, but defensively, Crede is at least a push to Chavez if not slightly better IMHO. HAHAHAHAHA
  11. If the law of averages has its say on the Chavez situation, then he is due to hit near .310-.315 the rest of the season to finish around his career average...
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Why wouldn't he need to do as much in the White Sox line-up? If the job requires little, why trade one of the best starting pitcher prospects in baseball, a guy who plays the same position and has better numbers than him, and pick up the balance of his huge contract? If you trade for Chavez, which the White Sox are not by the way, you are going to expect huge production. Its not as if the weight of the world will be off his shoulders. Being the 1 run producer on a team diving down to last place, or being 1 of 3-4 serious run producers on the team with the best record in baseball...It isn't tough to see which situation carries a lot more pressure.
  13. I think you can throw Eric's numbers somewhat out the window. Sure he isn't hitting thus far like he is capable, but can you really expect a player to perform to his full abilities in the situation that he is? It's an absolutely terrible situation to be in. You just signed a long term contract for a team you thought would be contending for a long time, and then just after you sign it, the team starts a rebuilding process. He's gotta feel abandoned somewhat. Stuck in a 6 year commitment for a rebuilding team. Wow, that's just flat out dirty. Eric would strive here. I have no doubts about it. Eric Chavez is not a one year wonder. He's a proven run producer. 27 year old stud. Gold Glover that would bring some national attention to this team. For those who think he's overpaid, just look around the league right now. Look at the free agent market. It's ridiculous. Chavez, entiring his prime years by the way, could turn out to be a steal at 11 mil. We can't get a player of Eric's quality for less. Mmmm...Chavez replacing Crede is a mindbogling upgrade.
  14. Can't wait for The Score and ESPN 1000 to rip Ozzie a new one tomorrow morning...
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) I'm concerned we're going to need someone for the 9th inning also soon. Apparently Ozzie doesn't see what everyone else sees. He's let our best reliever go 6 days without pitching. If I'm KW, I either A. Talk to Ozzie and tell him he's been a f-ing jackass lately or B. Put Ozzie in a situation where he HAS TO pitch a certain player in the 9th. This can not continue...
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) "I signed this deal knowing i will be on a contending team, and once the A's become a non-contending team I expects to be dealt to a contender." Cmon, that doesn't sound like he wants to get out of there at all? He signed the contract thinking the A's would contend each year. Was that something he shouldn't have thought? Now that Beane is in a rebuilding mode, Eric knows his A's career could very well be coming to an end. Why's that a bad thing?
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Does KW make a move for a reliever any time soon? What does everyone think? I sure hope so. Get someone who HAS to pitch the 8th like Wagner. That way Ozzie has less innings to mismanage...
  18. Did Ozzie really care if we won tonight? It didn't appear so...
  19. Chavez, Chavez, and more Chavez...
  20. While Ozzie is quite young as a manager and he needs options, is it possible KW gave Ozzie TOO many option? Ozzie has yet to define roles on this team. One night its Hermy the next it's Marte. I think this team would benefite GREATLY if it had a true closer. Yes, Hermy has been spectacular and I agree he should have been in there today, but he's not a defined closer, if that makes any sense. If this team, say, had a Wagner-type, then this 9th inning mix and match stuff would not take place. Or perhaps Ozzie will just stick with Hermy in the 9th every time, but I doubt it...
  21. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ May 27, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) About your signature... 1. Podsednik LF L 2. Iguchi 2B R 3. Thomas DH R 4. Chavez 3B L 5. Konerko 1B R 6. Rowand CF R 7. Pierzynski C L 8. Dye RF R 9. Uribe SS R Thomas in the three hole, Chavez cleaing up a la when Tejada batted third in OAK, Konerko is better suited for the fifth hole too. Eyy...I question Frank abilities at the current moment. If he hits like pre-injury 2004, then 3 hole, if not 5 hole. Konerko is the RBI guy on the team. Needs to be 4th. Chavez draws walks and is a better hitter than Frank. I could really care less how those 3 are situated, just as long as those 3 are on the team.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Belle was one hell of a hitter, he might have been an asshole but he could flat out rake. No doubt about that. In his prime Belle was amazing. JR surprised us with his signing back in the day, maybe he'll surprise us with an Adam Dunn trade...
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) I think adding Chavez would be doing the exact opposite of what has been so successful for us this season. In the offseason, we got rid of 3 very-high-salary guys (Lee, Valentin, Ordonez), and we spread that money around to pay for guys like Hernandez, Pierzynski, Pods, Iguchi, Rowand, Dye, and Hermanson. Adding Chavez is a step back in the opposite direction. Last year, Lee, Valentin, Ordonez, and Konerko absorbed something like 40% of the Sox salary. No other team in baseball poured such a high percentage of its total salary into 4 people. Not one, not the Yankees, not the Red Sox, not the Cards with Pujols and Rolen, no one at all. By subtracting the big salary guys, we were able to fill in the pretty large gaps we had around them, like the 5th starter spot, 2nd base, the bench, the bullpen, and catcher. Right now, we're reaping the benefits of that decision. If we were to Add Chavez, he would instantly become the 2nd highest paid player on our roster this season, and he would be in a position to be the highest paid one on it the next few seasons (depending on what Konerko and Thomas do). This is a step in the wrong direction. It's a step back towards less flexibility in the off season, and a step back towards where we were last year. I don't care how good he is...he fits perfectly into a formula that doesn't work. Except almost all the team is under contract at least through 2007. With Anderson/Sweeney (1 probably in the trade for Chavez) and McCarthy waiting to step in as 2 very cheap and solid replacements for Dye and Contreras, attendence on the rise, and JR saying before the season there is still money available to spend, there is good reason to believe that Chavez can be added to this team with no subtractions.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Adam Dunn would be the most amazing pick up of all time. Not only would we be able to throw him in the outfield for this year but then he takes over for Pauly next year at 1st when Anderson takes over in rf. Wow, the thought of Dunn in a sox uni just puts a smile on my face. It definitely would be a tremendous pickup. Left handed w/ extreme power. It wouldn't be too far of a stretch to think he could hit 55 HR in the Cell if he continues to develop. Belle-esque...
