Mike Lowell

Featured Replies

Would the White Sox be interested in him? I know he is not having a good year right now but he has been a damn good player in the past and he is only 31 years old. Would he be worth the risk?

I read in Sports Weekly that "The Marlins are telling teams that third baseman Mike Lowell is available...." I am just wondering if it would be a good fit for us. Maybe some people here have seen more of him this year and he is not good anymore. I have not seen him at all this year to say whether he will rebound and get back to his old self. Would he be better then Crede?

I hate Wes Helms. I never want to here his name again. If you like Wes Helms go talk to a Brewers fan, and ask them their opinion of Wes Helms, they're sentements will be of similar nature to mine.

But Crede does NOT have GG defense, and he does not save runs with his glove. He is a vaccuum over there, but is Choice-esque in that his range is next to nothing. Offensively, he is far inferior to a Mike Lowell.

If the Sox could get him relatively cheaply, or perhaps even a bad contract for a bad contract(maybe something like Dye and Diaz for Lowell, with the Marlins then going to Cabrera at 3B, and an OF of something like that Conine/Encarnacion-Pierre-Encarnacion/Dye, with the Sox then trading Crede for a solid OFer who can just fill in for the year...or perhaps they package of bunch of s*** up for another OFer.

I know one thing, Lowell is a guy I would not mind having on my team. He is streaky as hell(and he is probably just in one of those crazy funks right now), but when he is right, he is unbelievably good. As recently as last year, he put up an .870 OPS, so he is not done by any stretch of the imagination.

Im not sure about Mike Lowell isnt he know to be a 1st half hitter and s***ty the 2nd half... and this year he has even been crappy the 1st half... Ill stick with Crede on this one.

I want Morgan Ensberg

I understand the want for more offense, especially when we dont score a ton of runs, and we are used to it by now. But I think this infield, especially the left side, works well together and I think Crede's range is better than many think. He is a great player defensively and Uribe and Crede work well to establish a great defensive front. I wouldnt want to weaken the defense on an already defensively-dependent team.

I doubt the Marlins will be trading him. They're in first place and they'll have to be blown away by a package. He just signed a big contract with them, too.

Unless they plan on moving Cabrera back to third, I don't think he's going anywhere.

I can understand that argument. I see both sides of this issue very well.

Why f*** with something that has worked so well? The offense has not been great, but whatever is working, is working. And then if you do make the trade I suggested above, you may have to make another trade then too...trying to fix something that is working awesome can sometimes cause for breakage.

You would also be adding money into a spot that we really are already cheap at, and Crede's production thus far is better than Lowell's. Why add like $2 mill at 3B and then create a hole in the OF?

In the end, I probably would make not move...but it is intriguing to think about, nonetheless.

would you believe i attended the brewers/rockies game yesterday with my wes- helms'-jersey(autographed)-wearing buddy?

i'm not saying he's any good, but he might prod crede. the sox have handed crede the job for 3-4 years with zero competition. maybe it's time for a change.

i also want eric chavez

The Marlins are telling teams that third baseman Mike Lowell is available.

I think it would be very tempting to buy Lowell low since he is struggling. His career numbers show that he will not hit like he currently is for the entire season.

I don't want Lowell, he's suffering from the new steroid policy (yes I went there), is in his 30's, and just signed a big contract IIRC.

he was clutch in the playoffs in 03 wasnt he?

So you are saying he has a case of the A-ramis's

We have a winner!

:headbang

So we have a guy at 3b who is struggling and who we hope will find a way to hit better, and we want to replace him with a guy at 3b who is struggling and we can hope will find a way to hit better, except the replacement costs more and isn't as good on defense.

I can understand people wanting to upgrade to Chavez, simply for the glove. But why are people so desperate to trade 1 struggling hitter for another one, especially given how important clubhouse chemistry can be to a ballclub?

Crede = Lowell (take into effect age, defense, current struggles and contract)

Chavez >>>> Crede (take into effect the fact that Chavez is better than Crede in everyway except contract.)
