  1. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) AJB can probably contribute more to this team for 2005 than BMAC and Marte. Beyond that, I'm not sure. I thought JC did poorly in his playoff starts out of the pen? I think Ozuna and Gload are fine back-ups (although Lowell's 3B defense HAS to be better than Ozuna's) and Lowell has struggled offensively all season. Lowell has struggled, but is hitting .294 w/ a .809 OPS in 68 July ABs. He's coming around.
  2. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) the phillys would be interested in that, the question is, is the team that acquires burnett gonna be interested in that I would hope the Sox are.
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) That is more of what I am hoping will happen with this deal...Wagner makes a lot more sense for the Sox than Burnett does.... It makes sense for both teams...
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) I'm saying the guy seems like he doesn't want to play here. If he doesn't want to play here, he might fall under the title of cancer. I haven't heard one comment of him saying or hinting at the fact that he'd like to play for the White Sox. On the other hand, I heard a few things about him wanting to play in Toronto or Boston. I don't think AJB would risk hurting his market value by any degree by pulling some clubhouse cancer act. He's obviously looking for a major payday, and a successful run with the Sox in the playoffs would pay HUGE dividends. I.E. Derek Lowe.
  5. When the Phillies say Wagner isn't available, I'm more inclined to believe that means that they won't trade him as a white flag trade. If the Sox got Burnett, why wouldn't Philly be interested in a Burnett/Wagner swap? They have Urbina to close and adding a SP like Burnett would fit a lot better for them. It's entirely possible that a Burnett/Wagner swap could happen.
  6. May be something insignificant, but when Ozzie came out to get the ball from Marte, there was no usual clap or slap on the butt from Ozzie. Just grabbed the ball.
  7. Perhaps Eyre comes with Omar while Marte and BMac go for Burnett/Wagner...
  8. Maybe I'm just not understanding the original post, but he said that Vizquel is gonna be traded to the White Sox? Or that he is just on the block and the Sox are interested?
  9. Konerko would be fine, if he wasn't counted on to be the majority contributor of this meager offense.
  10. Oh god please get Vizquel in here. Uribe is the worst hitter in the AL.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) The scary thing is that I really think that KW believes this. Mmm...I don't know. I don't think KW would ever be comfortable with any current team. He doesn't seem like the GM to be complacent.
  12. Pauly was 3-1 twice tonight and got fastballs right down the middle. He flew out lazily to right center and popped out to 2B...I'd say he's been pretty bad this year. Should be interesting to see what happens to him this off season, and how the Sox will hopefully fill his shoes.
  13. Frank needs to come back healthy for one thing. Carl's just not the man to stabilize the offense as it's clear Pauly can't handle that. If any move is made to upgrade the offense, it better be for Uribe. He flat out sucks...
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Padres just traded for Randa. Gave up 2 minor leaguers. And so the trades keep coming in...At least the Twins didn't get him.
  15. Isn't Ponson owed like $10 million next year, or something around there? Great deal for the O's. I can see them picking up Weaver now and having Weaver and Nevin would be very nice additions. Let's all hope they make the WC and BOS/NYY/OAK/MIN don't...
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) This may come back to hurt us. Ozzie is not the kind of manager to head a bullpen attack. Most of us feel managing the bullpen is his biggest weakness. The last thing I want to do is force him to do this for almost half a game. The more quality arms he has in the pen, the less he can make a mistake. I don't think there could be many mistakes made with Marte/Politte/Hermanson/Wagner at the end of the pen.
  17. Garland also was somewhat raw at the time of the Karchner trade, I believe (traded for in '98, didn't make his debut till 2000, right?). Jon Rauch won MLPOY...I don't care about that award.
  18. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) If Garland was that much more coveted, how come it only took Matt Karchner to get him from the Cubs? Not arguing with you or anything, but Garland was taken I believe in the 1st or 2nd round and BMac was in the 19th...
  19. They offered Colon a contract similar to the Angels except MUCH was deferred. I believe that they offer they gave Maggs had a good portion deferred as well. One other, I could be mistaken, but didn't Frank's original deal prior to the performance clause being enacted have a large portion deferred?
  20. Hmm...I don't know how to feel about that. A lot of Major League talent coming our way in that one.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Could you imagine what people will be saying two years down the road when vizwuel is hitting .220 and we didn't end up winning the world seris this year? I'd be saying, "That was a tremendous move KW made in 2005."
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) People are always going to say that, but the fact is the Sox weren't willing to offer him a 3 year deal in the off-season, and they won't want to pay $5 million in 2007 for a SS that may not even start every day. If the Giants pay a little of his deal (which they probably won't) however........ Things have changed drastically since the time we were negociating with Omar in the offseason. Wouldnt you say?
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) Vizquel - 3 year contract. Always going to be an issue. I'll worry about winning now, and then worry about the measly 5 million we would owe Omar in 2007.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) The Colorado media predicted this would happen once he got the big contract. I used to be a Uribe fan, but he seems to be a one-year wonder. I'd trade for Omar in a heartbeat. Send Uribe in the deal for all I care...
  25. I'd rather stop Boston from getting Wagner...than get Eddie. Let Boston take the #2 option.
