  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) A bat that plays what position and who goes away? Yep, that's the problem...We all talk about adding a bat, but in reality who do we get rid of? Crede possibly but a Vinny Castilla type really isnt much of an upgrade at the moment. Dye has shown signs of breaking out. It seems as though we would have tons of holes with how bad the offense has been, but we really don't have a glaring hole like last year at the deadline or the year before that.
  2. QUOTE(trexer @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) We already have 3 proven closers on the team as it is. There is no need to trade for another one. First off, we don't have 3 established closers. We have 3 established quality relievers. Marte has proven he will struggle in the 9th throughout his years with the Sox. Shingo has struggled somewhat this year, and Hermy is relatively new to the role. Let me state that they are all very good and I am very pleased with their performance thusfar, but do not assume that all will continue to perform at this rate. In no way do I want Mesa, but if Billy Wagner were to become available to the Sox then that's something KW needs to pursue. Of course, I would want a bat before Wagner, but if both were obtainable, then there is no reason to add Wagner in addition to a bat.
  3. If we nab a closer, I don't want anyone other than Billy Wagner. Our pen would be scary good...
  4. Actually, I do remember Mark saying that he learned a lot of Boomer. While Boomer is a tub-o-goo, he still knows a s*** load about pitching, and I think that rubbed off some on Mark.
  5. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) A specialist shouldn't be considered a specialist unless he holds a particular batter (LH/RH) under .200. Walker doesn't fit this bill. A specialists role is primarily for the 6th/7th inning. Beyond this inning, a manager will PH for a player. But again, Walker's hardly pitching well against LHH. Maybe that is Walker's role...Come in for one lefty, make the opposing manager pinch hit w/ a RH, and then Ozzie goes to Luis...See, Walker will serve some purpose!
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) The fact that it's a non-move makes me even more upset. Knowing Baj, he'll act like it's no big deal, but the fact that he's kicking serious ass for a horrible Charlotte team and getting passed over for a guy who can't get AAA hitters out stings. Baj's time will come. Right now, he's better served down in AAA. Bringing him up to rarely pitch does nothing for him. Let him continue to throw consistently and then when we need someone to step in, he'll be up.
  7. This is a non-move. I don't know why all of you are getting upset. Chill out. I highly doubt Walker sees any important innings BEFORE proving he can pitch at this level. Ozzie has been hesitant to use Luis and Neil in the past couple weeks, Walker isn't taking their innings.
  8. To chose between a 30 year old career minor leaguer or an established veteran utility man is really not a hard decision...
  9. Tony G won't be getting much playing time in KC the rest of the way. Teahen is back at 3B and Gotay is at 2B. Tony G would be a great pickup. He's a great guy, he's been on our team before, he's clutch, he's a RH bat off the bench which we need, and he plays all IF positions. Tony G would add to the clubhouse as well. Plus, he's Reinsdorf's favorite player... I like Osuna and appreciate what he has done thus far, but when it comes down to it, Tony G is far better. Osuna's presence off the bench adds nothing but insurance defensively. His bat is nothing to fear off the bench. Tong G has proven to be able to hit off the bench with decent power, and the ability to hit in clutch situations. Get him KW!
  10. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Beat me to it Bo knows fighting Canseco vs. Bo...I fear Bo's hip would hinder him.
  11. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) who is the one sox player past or present you'd send ot the mound? I want to say Frank but his agility would be in question. I'm going with Jose Valentin. It seems like he could mix it up if he had to There is no doubt in my mind who I'd send...Jose Canseco.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) Yeah, but I would say that this year is even more of a seller's market than last year - aside from Todd Helton, can you name a single person out there that a team might be willing to simply dump? Tampa Bay has a closer that some people are interested in, and Billy Beane is certain to do something, but other than that, there aren't that many people available unless you give up a lot or take on a ton of salary (Mike Sweeney). When you look at it...a lot of teams, like Pitt, Tampa, KC, are where they are not because they're overloaded with bad contracts any more - they're there because they have a ton of young guys that they're trying to develop, and those aren't the kinds of guys you make a deal with. I think as we approach the deadline a lot of names with jump out from the woodwork. They always do, but I understand your point. There really isn't that Beltran player this season.
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) I don't think that's entirely true. I doubt we add MORE pitching. Pitching is ALWAYS the most expensive come the deadline. If you want to make a good comparison of what the Sox would be looking to do this deadline, look to the Delgado/Walker deals for the comparison. A Kazmir type was not part of those deals. Also, I wouldn't put much stock into comparing anything to the Mets organization. That organization has continually been one of the worst for the past decade or more.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Last year, the Devil Rays got a #1 rookie starter, Scott Kazmir, from the Mets for a #3 or #4 starter. All indications are that if you want to make an upgrading-deal this year...you're going to need to do something like that also. So yeah...if we really want to add something in a trade that's going to be better than what we have, the odds are it's going to cost us BMac or BAnderson level talent. And those are a few guys I don't want KW to touch. I don't think that's entirely true. I doubt we add MORE pitching. Pitching is ALWAYS the most expensive come the deadline. If you want to make a good comparison of what the Sox would be looking to do this deadline, look to the Delgado/Walker deals for the comparison. A Kazmir type was not part of those deals.
  15. There is going to come a time when we will need to strengthen this club to win something serious. I love the chemistry on this club as much as the next person, but as long as this is no Milton Bradley type player, I really don't think a player KW would be interested in would mess with things. KW stakes a lot on personal issues and takes a lot of time asking Sox players whether they'd be a good fit here or not. I trust his judgement, and if he wants Cintron and sees no issues with it then get him. More IF depth is never a bad thing.
  16. A Tigers/White Sox brawl wouldn't be such a bad thing. If you remember the last time that happened, we went on to lead the majors in wins...Ahh the memories of 2000....
  17. No one talks about this, but how much can be laid on Greg Walker? If this keeps up for 2-3 more weeks, I think he's got to go. I like Walk, but seriously, this is just flat out embarrassing.
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) So far we have the getem on, get over thing down.. Now if we can just figure out that getem in thing.. we might have something. The middle of the order is not at all earning their paychecks, and something needs to be done about it. I wonder if Konerko knows he's playing for a contract...So far he's not worth than Travis Lee...Leader of the team, and he's s***ty himself. Disappointing.
  19. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) This offense is one of the worst I have seen in a long time. It pathetic... How many people in our lineup today are hitting their weight? My god is this god damn ugly...
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) We're 0 for our last 22 with men in scoring position now. Terrible AB by Everett there. This offense is one of the worst I have seen in a long time. It pathetic...
  21. How much per seat for lower reserved (Minnie 9 game plan)?
  22. Side note: This could potentially light a fire under their asses. Ozzie is certainly going to be ticked off and he does not go quietly...
  23. Is there a way to check and see when Hunter umps a game in Chicago?
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) This is honestly funny when you think about it. After all the breaks we've made and created this season, to have nearly everything go wrong that possibly can is very ironic. Yep and the funny thing is, we can still win...
  25. Question... Is it just MLB.TV or are there no commercials during this telecast?
