QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) Willits is going to be 27 next year so I'd say he's closer to becoming Scott Podsednik Jr. than a top lead off hitter for years to come. Yeah, Willits has hit his ceiling, imo. In fact, I think he overachieved last year. There are many better lead off hitters in the league.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) So does this make a deal for a major bat the next thing they do. Do they have enough prospects to get that bat? We know they have an extra pitcher to deal, but they'd need more than just that, imo. I think with the added improvement of their young studs, their offense should be pretty good next year. 1B is the only place where they could really add a bat, but with Chad Tracy coming back healthy and the emergence of Reynolds, I really think they will have a pretty good offense already. Top to bottom, there really are no weak links. I would say that Konerko would be a very good fit. If we could get Jackson, a bullpen arm, and Scherzer I would be very satisfied. Don't know how they feel about dealing Scherzer though as he wasn't in the Haren deal, and that tells me he may be off limits.
-
Good trade for the D-Backs in my opinion. Gonzalez is a stud, no doubt, but other than that the arms they gave up are nothing more than middle of the rotation ceilings at best. With Haren locked in for the next 3 years cheaply, I think Arizona did very well.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) It is pretty obvious that it does take that kind of player for KW to deal Fields. How so? Cabrera is the elite of the elite. You don't think there are a number of lesser players KW would deal Fields for?
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) He has tried to trade Fields like one time; the player he was getting back was Miguel Cabrera. Miguel Cabrera. Not Randy Winn. ...but Miguel Cabrera. That we know of, supposedly. I'm not saying he's going to go for Randy Winn, but I'm sure there have been offers he's considered for other players than Cabrera. I don't think it would take that kind of player for KW to deal Fields unfortunately.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) Is it? When you consider the "average" production of the first base position, can you think of one player who may be available that would be above that average? Why else would the Giants be interested in such a trade if that was the case? Secondly, I'm not sure Fields is ever going to be the 3b he needs to be. And if that is the case, why not use our in-house resources most efficiently? You can convert almost anyone to a 1B. That isn't the case for 3B.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Why not just move Fields to 1b permanently, and find a third basemen after the 08' season or at the deadline? Much easier to find someone capable of player 1B with above average offensive production.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) If you dealt Konerko though, there may not be many better options out there for the Sox. I mean who's available in a trade? Sexson? LaRoche maybe? Jackson? And there's not much left in FA. I would love to pick up Conor Jackson. They have decisions to make with both Reynolds and Tracy. Word is they are considering moving Tracy to 1B. If Conor comes 75 cents on the dollar, I would love it.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) No he doesn't. Mark Prior has serious injury concerns You clearly haven't met Beautox Lincecum has concerns. Prior has issues.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) I would gladly take Eckstein at $4.5M for one season AND Jon Garland as our #3 starter/trading chip over Cabrera. Plus, we wouldn't be worried about adding a leadoff hitter. Or Eckstein and an actual package for Garland that will help us beyond 2008.
-
You'd have to be clinically insane not to trade Konerko for Lincecum given the current state of the Sox.
-
Perhaps if we added some of our top notch gold prospects with Konerko, Sabean might bite. Though, I don't think even he is that stupid.
-
Some interesting spellings of Lincecum...Anyways, add Jonathan Sanchez to the list as well, but they don't have enough unless Cain or Lincecum are part of the deal.

What about Shannon Stewart to play LF and lead off?
sircaffey replied to MO2005's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
If a player like Stewart stole AB away from Quentin, it'd be just another item on the long list of problems this franchise has. Stick with Quentin. -
Yes take a shot. Might as well spend some of Hunter's money if we aren't getting anything else. We offer the added incentive of being able to stick it back up the Cubs ass if he needs that motivation...

I'm so glad we have a GM that can ace math tests and history exams. Now give us someone who can evaluate talent.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) If this is accurate, it looks like the Bedard to the Dodgers deal is off. Which hopefully does not mean he goes to the Indians... Please send Bedard to Cleveland. Send Haren too. Collect all the talent from the NL as well. Whatever takes this organization to understand they have no chance at competing I welcome.

When can we expect Crazy Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar back?

You're the GM. Firesale is the plan.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) Please please please unload Kenny Williams. I'll buy him a plane ticket anywhere. How many members on Soxtalk? You think if we teamed up with WSI and each member gave $3-4, it would be enough to buyout Kenny's remaining contract? -
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) You bring up an interesting point about the LF spot (Bonds would be too much of a circus this season)....KW doesn't envision Quentin as a starting LF. The Sox were going to put Fuku in LF if they signed him. The way around the rebuilding pitfalls. Sign Barry Bonds to play LF. Trade everyone else on the team, and yet still people will buy tickets to see Bonds play. Or to boo him.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) I said it yesterday, and it was an honest statement: how does KW still have a job? Not only does he have one of the worst teams in baseball, he also has one of the worst farm systems. There's no excuse for that with a 100 million dollar payroll. I would think it's because the absolute only other choice to take over as GM is Hawk, and we all know how that went that one fateful year.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) BTW, would this be a good time again to say that the Chris Young trade severely damaged this franchise? Not a good time, but oh so true.

Which AL Central lineup to you fear more?
sircaffey replied to Steve9347's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) This was my projection. I think Jacque will split time with Thames. Considering they have plenty of power, would YOU start Jones? I would most definitely start Jones in LF. He's not a bad player. He had a horrible first half last season, but put in a 2nd half of .332/.374/.458 in 238 AB. He should be good for .270/.330/.450, ~20 HR, 80 in that stacked lineup. And coming from the 9 hole, thats pretty f***ing good. Also considering he was an above average defensive RF, he should be even better in LF.
