  1. Prior will never be what he was, IMO, but who cares. If you can get the next two seasons out of him for 3 mil apiece, it's worth the gamble. If he gets back to even 75% of what he was, he's still an effective SP. From a Sox perspective, it's almost worth the 3 million alone just for the chance to have a tremendous marketing opportunity to stick it to the Cubs.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Miguel Cabrera eats as much as like 3 guys, does that count? Yes.
  3. If Crede wasn't a Gold Glove caliber defensive 3B, he'd be slightly above an utility corner infielder. He'd be the right handed version of Mike Lamb (perhaps not even that good). Crede's value takes an enormous hit if you move him off of 3B.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Well, apparently they are willing to deal Uggla. I think they figure they'll deal with Uggla later if they were to acquire Kendrick. But I agree, I think the Sox are perfectly capable of making a very competitive offer. I'm not saying the Sox system is even close to that of the Angels or Dodgers' systems, but they just may be more willing to give away young prospects than either of the two LA teams. If that were to happen, they would still be without a 3B. I would think they'd rather fill that need rather than upgrade slightly at a position they already have a solid player at. It's not coincidence that LAD/LAA/CHW are mentioned as the most likely suitors. Each of these teams has a top young 3B in LaRoche/Wood/Fields. I can't see Florida making a deal without getting one of these players in return.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) And what do you consider the Angels offer of Kendrick/Willits/Mathis? What would Florida do with Kendrick? He's a solid player and all, but they have Uggla already. If given the choice between Kendrick and Fields, the Marlins probably would prefer Fields as they have no real need for Kendrick unless they plan on dealing Uggla. If the Angels are not offering any pitching, I think the Sox could definitely put a more tempting offer on the table.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) Over the past 3 years Andruw Jones has struck out once every 4.57 AB and Rowand over that same time period has struckout every 5.12 AB. Yeah, there's a HUGE difference. At least during that time Jones managed to hit a HR once every 14.6 ABs which is nearly twice as often as Rowand. (30.7) But what about walks you say? Jones has drawn one once every 7.98 ABs while Rowand has gotten a free pass only once every 16.44 ABs. If I have a choice between Andruw Jones and Aaron Rowand and the money is similar I take the hall of famer and superior player in Jones. Oh hell...sign them both.
  7. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) no basis at all for that statement. 3 years ago,Lowell was as unmovable a player as Contreras is now. He was a throw in to rid the Marlins of his contract in the Beckett trade. Fenway park has greatly benefitted him. Crede hit what, .290 with 30 hr's in 2006? To say Lowell would be better is pure speculation. Like the others said, it's not speculation. It's fact.
  8. Yes, but I'd prefer a RH bat off the bench first.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) The Rays would have no use for Fields, unless they plan on sticking him at DH or LF. In all likely hood, the Rays want young quality pitching, and perhaps a SS. How about we trade Crede to the Phils or Dodgers for a decent spect, and then include the prospect in a deal for Crawford... Danks/Gio, Massett, Prospect f/Crede trade, and Uribe for Crawford? I think this works, depending on what type of prospect we get for Crede (especially if it is a relief pitching prospect). The Rays need some defense at SS and Uribe would provide them that, and Harris could move to 2B. Since they have Brignac waiting in the wings, they won't want to be locked into having a SS for longterm, and Uribe is only signed for one year. Perfect fit, IMO. But, their biggest need is pitching, starting and relief. Kazmir might eventually move to the pen, but for now he'll stay in the rotation. They got Shields, and I am a fan of Edwin Jackson, but they still have some holes. I think they would prefer Danks over Gio due to Danks is still young and a good prospect, and can start right away. Massett could also possibly fit into the back end of their rotation or pen. (it would be kind of ironic to see Danks and Massett traded together just a year after we acquired them for McCarthy.) Thoughts? I highly doubt that gets it done. There's only one player in that proposal with any long-term value to the D-Rays. Massett is horrible. He's out of options as well. The D-Rays could get a much better deal from another team (someone like the Cubs). Our junk isn't going to get one of the top "available" players on the market. In one year, the trade would be Crawford for Gio or Danks as Massett DFA a month into the season, Uribe leaves as a FA, and the low end prospect we get for Crede doesn't pan out. The Rays aren't a team on the cusp of breaking out next season. They don't need fillers. They will certainly be looking for long-term quality when trading Crawford.
  10. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Well, they did offer Mike Lowell a huge contract after Arod agreed on a new deal. The same plan could be used with Crede, play him at 1b. Joe Crede would be one of the worst 1B in the league. Lowell at least has a very good bat that would offer above average offensive production for a 1B. Crede's production would be well below average.
  11. QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) Aaron Rowand is a better baseball player than Jerry Owens. Jerry Owens is a better lead off man than Aaron Rowand The White Sox need a lead off man The White Sox do not need Aaron Rowand. I don't ever get this logic. Rowand is a better hitter than Owens. You stick Rowand in the leadoff spot and he creates more runs than Owens hands down. We need productive players. Jerry Owens just isn't that productive. Who cares if he fits the mold of a leadoff hitter. That doesn't make him worth leading off.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Who says that 5 and 60 gets it done. The dodgers are looking at Rowand as their next move. Plus dont you think any sentimental thoughts that Rowand would of had was lost when Torii was woo'd instead of him. I would say Rowand takes whomever gives him the largest contract. I'm just going off the contract suggested in the article not that I think that's all it would take.
  13. Hahn will just work the entire Jones deal.
  14. If 5/60 is the cost for Rowand, I think you have to go get him. Let's say he slips back to an .800 OPS. You still get very good defense in CF, you have a clubhouse guy, and at $12 mil, that's still not a terrible contract. A contract, that if you wished, you could easily get rid of in 3-4 years.
  15. MCabrera would create more runs than Crawford. No team is better with Crawford in place of MCabrera.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) I think this acquisition basically makes Miguel Cabrera a lock to go to the Angels. How about Konerko instead? I like that better.
  17. Angels? Huh? Vlad moving to DH or I guess Anderson would be the one.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) We still Need I think Hunter and a legit leadoff man if we are really going to contend. That and hope our starting rotation turns itself around. Even then, I don't think we have a chance at competing with Detroit or Cleveland. In fact, I view Hunter as a regression for the time when we are able to compete. I think competing in the next 2 seasons is blind optimism at it's finest, and then in 3 yrs a hobbling Hunter with an enormous contract will only keep us longer from competing.
  19. I'm not a huge fan of Linebrink, but he will be someone we can count on to be effective. With that said, Vizcaino was overall effective for us, and a lot of people didn't care for Luis, so we shall see. It should definitely be an overpay, but at least we add an arm we have good idea of what we are going to get. We can't really say that about anyone else in the pen except Jenks.
  20. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) Finding good relievers IS a crapshoot. Who knew Jenks would be as good as he is when KW took a flyer on him? If it looked like a knock on Kenny, it wasn't. (Two misinterpretations on one post - gotta love that) It's not always a crapshoot. Sure, finding ones like Jenks are, but there are relievers who have always been effective. Linebrink is one of those guys.
  21. This will make everyone in the pen better. Ozzie can now really play the match-ups without having to worry about the 8th and 9th innings. Let's just hope Oz plays the right match-ups. Like Boone not facing any RH hitters.
  22. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) That's my dream scenario. You dream of Coco Crisp in LF? I dream of Miguel Cabrera. I have nightmares about Coco Crisp.
  23. So if Griffey stayed in Seattle, he would have stayed healthy? I don't think so. In fact, we may want to consider Griffey's career when thinking about Hunter seeing as they both played on turf for their whole careers up until age 31, and are, I guess, somewhat alike as players. Is Hunter the next Griffey?
  24. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) I was kind of thinking/hoping that it would go like this: Joe Crede and Brian Anderson to Philly Coco Crisp to the White Sox and to the Red Sox....hmm...Carlos Carrasco ? If KW chose Crisp over Carrasco he should banned from baseball.
  25. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) I see a Tad Icuchi type deal when all said and done. I wanted DeSalvo from the Yanks and people on here yelled at me saying we can get better. I don't know what people think we'll get for a guy with a contract year/has Boras/just had back surgery..... He like Uribe will be given away because every team knows we need to clear cash for Hunter. At least get someone with some potential of becoming somewhat useful in the majors. Desalvo offers none of that. I'd rather get another A baller with decent stuff.
