Cabrera can eat himself to 300 lbs for all I care as long as his bat doesn't slip. What this tubby would do in our park marks me cringe.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) The Yankees are not helping someone else get Cabrera. Um, they helped us get Bartolo Colon. It's possible. As long as the Red Sox don't get him, it's a win for the Yanks. I've got to think Garland is part of any 3-way deal.
-
He's still a hell of a productive player. I hope Fields is as productive. I don't care how frustrating it gets at times.
-
What the hell do you want from the man? 40-100-100 every season. .925+ OPS. He's a beast. He destroys RHP to the tune of 1.000+ OPS. Fields will never be Adam Dunn though. Fields will never walk as much as Dunn, that's for sure.
-
QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) My guess is because he was the only recent highly touted prospect we've had to hold his head above water at the Major League level in his initial stint with the club. However he shows awesome power and is a great athlete. I do like Fields, but he looks like an Adam Dunn to me at this point. What's wrong with Adam Dunn? I pray Fields turns out to be as good a hitter as Dunn.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) Roberts had a .377 OBP last season, stole 50 bases and was caught 7 times. In 2005 he posted a .902 OPS. Roberts is not the player he was in 2005. He had a ridiculous first half, and returned back to normal in the second half. He's 30, and probably the player you see today. .750-800 OPS. Good, but Crawford's the better player.
-
Roberts is a good players. He'll get on base a little more, with slightly less power. I'd rather have Crawford, as I think he impacts the game a bit more, but it's definitely not a large gap.

QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) I thought about that as well and that could very well be the case. However, I feel Fields would rank above any of those players at 3B. If they didn't agree, Fields would be a LF candidate to replace Crawman as well. Fields does not come close to Evan Longoria at 3B. Longoria is an absolute stud. The D-Rays would not be interested in Fields unless they could move him to some other team for something they want.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) It's not out of the question that the Sox would have to add a prospect to get the Yanks to throw money in the deal. Crede has no real trade value. He wasn't good on offense prior to Sept. 2005 and now he's hurt. It wouldn't shock me to someone like Sweeney, Egbert, or Chris Carter added to the deal. Very much like the Thome deal.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) If we get Damon.. he will for SURE play LF. So no worries.. Hunter or Rowand will be our CF next year. Damon's arm is brutal and i think he wouldn't have a problem with moving to left field, especially with a guy like Hunter or Rowand in CF... Damon can still cover a lot of ground out there.. Our defense in the OF would be stellar in 2008 if this goes down. I agree with fathom, this seems like a typical KW move. Trade an expirering contract for someone under contract for more years and have the other team eat some of the contract. I wouldn't say stellar. Damon's arm is beyond pathetic, and JD is losing steps fast.
-
QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) I think it's a foregone conclusion that Damon will be in LF next year no matter what. I wouldn't bet on it.
-
If we trade for Damon, we better sign Hunter or Rowand because if not Damon will most assuredly be butchering CF for the next 2 seasons.
-
Who would you prefer to see traded?

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Kornerko to LAA for Aybar, Willits, Santana. Crede to Boston for Crisp. Garland to Colorado for Fuentes and Stewart. LF Willits ($.5) CF Crisp ($4) DH Thome ($15) RF Dye ($11) CA Pierzynski ($6) 1B Fields ($.5) 3B Ian Stewart ($.5) SS Aybar ($.5) 2B Richar ($.5) SP Buehrle ($14) SP Vazquez ($11.5) SP Contreras ($10) SP Danks/Floyd/Gio/Egbert/Santana ($.5) SP Danks/Floyd/Gio/Egbert/Santana ($.5) CL Jenks ($.5) RP Thornton ($1) RP Fuentes($3.5) RP MacDougal ($2) RP Russell/Day ($.5) RP Wasserman ($.5) Payroll ~ $55million Alot younger. Alot faster. Alot cheaper. Might as well trade Dye, A.J., Vazquez, Contereas, and Thome because that team isn't doing anything while they are still under contract. -
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Damon LF (Crede trade) Eckstein SS (Free agent) Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Hunter/Rowand CF (Free Agent) AJ C Fields 3B Richar 2B I think this is a realistic guess. This lineup provides added speed and bat handling at the top of the order, excellent OF defense, but decreases infield D. This can be accomplished without trading a pitcher. Not paying Crede or Uribe plus money from the Yankees could make this financially possible. KW is the most exciting GM in baseball. He could pull off greatness like 2005 or he may not. He will have the balls to try. Is that what you guess or something you want? If anyone actually wants Eckstein for what he'll cost, you need to reconsider.
-
Depending if he wants a two year deal, I wouldn't mind bringing back Lofton for a year. I'd rather sign Lofton for a year and trade Crede for something else, than trade Crede for Damon and his hefty 2 year contract. I'd prefer Burrell in LF if possible, but I'd rather have Lofton for a year than Crisp or Damon for two.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) But since he can't bunt or run well, he'd be a cancer on the team. I'd take a whole lineup of Burrells.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) and he'd probably be a Type A at the end of next season... So assuming you're trading Crede for Burrell straight up, you're getting burrell for a year plus 2 pick sin the following season for one season of Joe Crede. Sounds good to me. Or Burrell would be one of the top available bats at the deadline as we likely won't be in contention.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) There is no doubt from you. There is a lot of doubt with others. As I stated, Owens was hitting .239 with an OPS under .600 one month before the season ended. How does one month in meaningless games qualify as being better than another player who even in a down year had a higher BA, OBP and SLG than Owens? The games aren't as intense when you are playing out the string. David Aaardsma should have been lights out in 2007 the way he pitched with nothing riding on the outcome in 2006. I didn't invent the September numbers are teasers train of thought. The games may be meaningless to the team's success, but they are far from meaningless for Owens. This isn't some veteran going through the motions for a horrible team like Konerko. This is a rookie playing for a job something that, IMO, is more intense than fighting for your team and a spot in the playoffs. Crisp had a down year? He's been "down" for awhile then.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) I could stomach one more year of Uribe if KW went out and got Hunter. I could stomach one more year of Uribe if it meant KW was replaced with Hahn.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) screw Hunter. I don't see why anyone would want for when he will not preform anywhere near what he did in his contract season, and it will be a move that would be regretted for a while. But I like the idea of getting Guillen. He is a bit younger then Dye, and adds some fire to the locker room. Also, if he is preforming well, along with Fields, as well as Dye doing good, he can be used as trade bait to get perhaps bullpen help or something at the deadline, if we are in competition. I like Gage's idea, I would be a fan of a lineup of something like... 1. Furcal, SS 2. Crisp, CF 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Guillen, LF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Richar, 2B Why is that? He had a very similar season in 2006. I don't want him, but he's still a very good player. I doubt many people here are worried about the first 2 years of the contract, maybe even 3 years. It's years 4 and 5 that are the most worrisome.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) Well, Crisp has played half of his games at Boston, and being a switch hitter, most of his AB's are as a lefty, and Boston isn't a very lefty friendly ball park. Crisp playing half of his games in our launching pad will most likely increase his stats. Castillo is on the downside of his career and his skills are declining (like another certain Twins free agent). Plus, we already have our 2B, we don't have our CF and/or LF. Crisp was much better at home than on the road the past two years. Boston's a good hitters park no matter what side you hit from. Not to mention the lineup he hits in is fantastic.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) Crisp has more speed, is younger (more of a chance of improvement), and plays very good D in Center. I think it is a pretty big difference. Why will Crisp improve? A lot of people say he will, but why? What has he shown lately to give anyone that impression. He's been horrible at the plate the last two seasons. Not that I want either at their prices, but I'd much rather have Castillo than Crisp. They are very similar players (good speed, good defense), but Castillo is clearly more productive.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) But then your stuck with Floyd and Danks in your rotation. Unless you sign a guy like Kris Benson, who is probably going to cost alot without giving you that much, so really the FA market isnt good for filling the rotation and our prospects arent good enough to fill the spots all season long. Even guys like Egbert are starting to break down with the # of innings going up. Maybe a guy like Phillips will step up and become an okay 5th starter later in the season but the sox just wont win this division or wildcard with floyd and danks(this season). I hate to be the barer of reality here, but the chances of us competing with the Tribe and Tigers next season is low. I'm 100% all for whatever moves nail down positions for the longterm. If trading Garland fills 2 holes longterm then do it. The more positions you lock in longterm, the less s*** you have to deal with. The team needs so much this offseason, and chances are we aren't going to get it all. Lock in as much as you can. If we can go into next offseason with all 9 of offensive positions figured out, then I like our chances in 2009 as we wont have nearly as many holes as this offseason and a much better free agent crop to work with.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) I'd rather not see Castillo in a Sox uni. He's become the ultimate singles hitter and doesn't have much left in his legs so he doesn't steal many bases. If next year his OBP next year is below .350 his OPS will dip below .700. He's also looking for a 3 year deal. So you'd be signing a guy who's a risk to put up a sub .700 OPS and steal 15-20 bases. KW would be regretting that signing by 2009. That's what Crisp is, and yet some people want it. I agree with you though.
