  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) The Yankees are 8.5 out in the Wild Card, 10 out in the East, and actually have an offense. The Sox are 13 out in the Central, 12 out in the Wild Card, and have to go 51-25 simply to win 90 games. It's virtually impossible for the Sox, while the Yankees actually have the talent up and down their roster to put together such a run. Not to mention we have to leap 2 serious contenders in the division. With as many games left against division oppenents it's conceivable to catch one team. To catch 2 that are both double digit games ahead would be near impossible. QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 01:26 AM) Exactly. This is KW's way of letting other teams know that he won't be giving anyone away. The other GMs aren't stupid though. They know what's up. The only thing these quotes might effect, are fan perception.
  2. Everyone but Jenks, Pauly, Fields, Danks. If we become the Cubs, meaning patchwork every year, we'll win a division in 2022 at the earliest.
  3. Walker may not be failing, but he certainly isn't helping the situation. Cut the dead weight. Might as well try to find someone that can help the situation. Apparently, things can't get worse with such a move.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) If you take out Loney, that package is more realistic, and the one that I originally suggested. Of course the Dodgers would have to be interested in Crede, which I wouldn't be too confident in at this point. Got to see Kershaw pitch a couple weeks ago in Kane County, and he's a stud. I have a tough time believing LA would give him up in that package. He's the one guy in that organization that is untouchable, IMO. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  5. Nelson De La Rosa probably could shutdown this offense.
  6. No no, you take some SP, any SP from the minors and have them start against the Sox.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 8, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) We're not necessarily in trouble if such stubborness persists. Yes, it's not an ideal situation; but look at it like this: of Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi, there's probably two Type A compensation picks and one Type B. That's five picks with two possibly in the first round, depending upon the teams signing whichever player(s). I'm sure someone will say, "that doesn't help us now;" and it doesn't. The benefit to this is having an opportunity to rebuild the system. I'd rather have prospects further along obtained at the deadline, but if management is delusional and believes 7 games is possible to make up in this division, it's not the end of the world. Don't forget as well there's the likelihood one additional starter and perhaps Crede is traded in the offseason. This is the Chicago White Sox. We don't draft well, and we don't develop our own talent. Those picks will likely amount to nothing.
  8. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) It is still too early for a firesale, even if the Twins sweep us. The Tigers, Twins, and Indians all have tougher schedules for the remainder of the season. The Sox easiest month is June IIRC. They will need to tread water and hang around until June, and then make their move. Also remember that Cleveland has 2-3 less days off later in the year for the rainout reschedules. Those days off are huge late in the year. If the Sox are 6-7 out at the ASB, they still will have a legitimate shot, at least for the WC. That is undoubtedly what I worry about the most. If this team is just close enough to "compete", but just far enough to claim firesale, we could be f***ed for a long time. I pray that we are either leading, behind 10+ games, or management declares a firesale at 5+ games out. Part of me feels like it's going to take 12+ games out for this management to declare a firesale. Stubborness seems to be a plenty...
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Did Jerry Owens do something I didn't see? Heck, even Escobar has had more success in the majors than Owens has. I have more faith in big Herm getting/keeping Escobar healthy than our staff developing Owens.
  10. Only think about it right now. Get your thoughts in line, and then in a month, we'll all spew them out.
  11. 3 players that ESPN showed sitting at home were sporting a Sox hat during the NFL draft.
  12. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 5, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) They should be buyers, not sellers at the trade deadline and give it one last shot with this crew this year. Next year, they should be big spenders in the FA market. They're drawing fans, and have high TV and Radio Ratings in a major market. They could afford it. Bring in Ichiro and Andruw Jones in the Outfield. Get rid of Cintron and Mackowiak and tweak the bench with some speedsters. Try to improve at 2B with a more "athletic" type player. Keep the pitching staff intact. The Sox need to operate like the major market team they are. What should be done is to blow up this team by the deadline as in trading Buehrle, Contreras, Dye, Iguchi, Thome, Crede. Then make some splashes in the FA market with a host of young talent surrounding them. It would make for a very interesting team to watch.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 3, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) And it could happen again. Or it could not. We could wind up out of the race as the players struggle to adjust to a new coach. It's a gamble either way. I think the time to change was before Spring training. What are we gambling? Things can't get worse.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) So let me get this straight, people actually believe Greg Walker tells guys to go up to the plate and swing as hard as they can just in case they hit it. He also tells them not to work a count. Swing at as many pitches as they can, regardless of their location. I really don't know what to think of Walker as a hitting coach, but I find it hard to believe he's the reason the team can't hit right now. You can have the best philosophy in the game, but if you can't get it across to your students, you are a horrible teacher. (and thus, worthless)
  15. God willing. Sunday was probably the worst I have ever seen Pauly. He was completely lost.
  16. Who has more power? Joey Cora or Darin Erstad? It's close.
  17. It's amazing to me how much Crede's offensive output is overrated. Everyone's been starving for something from him for years, that when he gives something, it seems like he put up Silver Slugger type numbers. .283/.323/.506 in one of the best hitting ballparks and in one of the best offensive lineups.
  18. No knock on you hi8i's but I read about 2 sentences of your post. I refuse to give this guy my time which is exactly what he wants. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) I don't think it is about trying to understand his message as much as understanding him, so that we can try to stop this from happening in the future. We can try to explain what was mentally wrong with him, but when you start asking questions like what really was his message, we've gone too far. We'll never be able to stop insanity.
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) As soon as we realized that what he did was to gain attention and to get people talking about things, that is eaxctly when the media and everybody needed to shut-up about him and turn it's full attention onto the victims. His goal is now achieved and he was a massive success. Coverage on him needs to stop. Exactly. The guy's human trash. There is no reason anyone should give any thought to what he has to say. Certainly not attempt to understand his "message." He doesnt deserve our time.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) Unfortunately, I don't even think Paul DePodesta would be dumb enough to make that deal. There is 1 guy on our roster, IMO, who fills a direct need for the Dodgers, and if you want Kemp, he's the one going. Jermaine Dye. Which might happen with the direction this team appears to be headed.
  21. What former White Sox player with KW hire to take Walker's spot?
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) I'm one of his biggest critics, but if he came back to the Cell as an opposing manager, I definitely wouldn't boo him. I'm right there with you.
  23. Translation: When I'm fired and managing elsewhere, don't boo me.
