Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez

Floyd and another kid named Hamels...hopefully. -
Actually, the guys who originally told me about the rumor are Texas fans. They hate the trade. So to each his own I guess.

Supposedly a local radio station in Texas is mentioning a possible Buehrle/Pods for Michael Young deal being discussed. A couple of guys in my sim league are talking about it. Just throwing it out there.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) I don't really care about the numbers. It's about integrity. I don't want any known roiders on my team. I want to win, but I don't want to stoop to the lowest common denominator to do so despite the fact that actual usage of PEDs is probably rampant. I'd like to think the Sox are above that sort of thinking. Careful...Nothing is proven...

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Now thats a whole other issue. But either way, your going to see the starters get less work this season, I think that is almost a given. All the starters have logged alot of innings the last few years, with the exception of Mac, who shouldn't go past 175 IP this year. Believe me, it makes a whole lot of sense. But Ozzie doesn't. Hopefully the lightbulb went on. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) It's clear Ozzie wants a lock down bullpen. If he wants a lock down bullpen, he is going to use it. You would think. But does that mean Ozzie will use numerous guys for 1 or 2 outs like he did a lot last season or does that mean he's going to use them for 3 outs each? -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) You're going to see that change this season IMO. God willing... I think for BMac and Vaz Ozzie will, but the others, I'm not so sure. -
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) If the Sox sign Bonds they will get 45 ESPN sunday night games and will be on every saturday on Fox. Needless to say, Bonds pays for himself and others. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) What's the difference between Pods and Bonds? Both are horrific fielding left fielders who have seen their power numbers plummet since the 2004 season and both don't hustle down the line. One is a future Hall of Famer though, and the other one is a future Schaumburg Flyers designated hitter. And neither are leadoff hitters...

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Wouldnt mind seeing that happen but i dont think Bonds is worth $18M not to mention (of all rumors) he would truely be a clubhouse cancer. Did him and AJ get along in SF? Any contract Bonds gets is going to be filled with performance based incentives. The Giants are the only team that might give him a base salary over $10 million.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) I strongly suspect that his anomalous 2004 season was fueled by andro, creatin and/or HGH, or worse. I wouldn't lump creatine in with Andro and HGH, but I agree with you. I'm still skeptical about Rowand's 2004 season, and whether he was completely clean.

All this talk about improving the pitching, are we really going to see many changes? The rotation will change in one spot and we should add someone in the pen. What it all boils down to is, improvement is going to have to come from within. If Mark, Jon, Contreras, Freddy/Javier, and BMac don't improve upon last year then we're screwed anyways. Thus, I'm fine with this trade for Arod.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Why not keep all five and put McCarthy into AAA for some seasoning then trade someone at the deadline or, if not, leave them intact if need be? I'm all for dealing a starter for some stud pitchers but if not, I wouldn't be upset if Cy Young spent half a season or another season back in Charlotte. The time is now to trade one or two of our SP. The market can't get any better for them. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised with what we get.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) To answer your question- Soxfan101. As for Rollins, too much money for too little of an OBP. Agreed. As long as we are shooting high, there are a handful of leadoff hitters I'd rather acquire than Rollins.

Pretty good deal for the Giants. They needed Ray to stay, badly.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
sircaffey replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Those numbers on Crede were from when? 6 years ago? Do you want to wait another 5 years to get Crede calibre play from Fields? Maybe!? As I said. Not yet, anyway. Who says it will take Fields that long? -
I don't think any White Sox fan would object to seeing Ray Ray back in the organization.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Sure, I'd be willing to pay Gagne $10 million....if he met numerous performance incentives within a contract. Such language would include: 12K/9IP, minimum of 70 innings, .baa under .200. Essentially, statistics experienced from 2002-2004 which may have warranted such a salary. If it was as a closer, then yes.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Annibal Sanchez young cheap quality Josh Johnson young cheap quality Dontrell young not so cheap, but could get a kings ransom if they spin him this year Then there is petit, olsen, and the rest of their army of young cheap arms. This is one of the organizations that has a bevy of what everyone wants. Where they lack is in position player development. They spin pitchers off for position players. Which is what they will do with Dontrell. Now on the other hand this is a team for sale, why would they send of arguably their best offensive player, who is still affordable. Or a trade for Santana allows for them to trade Dontrelle who, IMO, is highly overrated across the league. Sanchez, Johnson, Olsen, Santana, Petit, etc. all for 5 plus years at minimal salary is music to Loria's ears. Substituting Santana for Willis isn't really much of a change. Substituting Willis with another rookie is a change. The Marlins could opt for the established young SP, and trade Willis for cheap position players. With that said, I highly doubt we deal with Florida. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Yes, Sweeney,Anderson, Fields aren't power hitters(Although Fields could turn into one) but why should I think the Sox are going to change from a HR team? They have hit 200 HR's 7 years in a row. It's pretty clear what the philosophy of the organization is, and I don't really have a problem with it. Yeah. The ballpark is also a factor there. This isn't a speed park. Plus, a 20 HR hitter is potentially a 30 HR hitter at the Cell. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Oh, dont get me wrong, in the long run over the next several years, Santana is absolute gold. I am saying going into next year, does this improve our club. No, but this could very well be the facilitator to a few other deals that do improve our club. -
I wonder if this will lead to a handful of very good bats signed for a few years already, traded. Guys like Mike Sweeney and probably some guys we thought wouldn't be traded. With the market for hitters being what it is, there is no better time to have "affordable" guys to trade. Some teams are going to cash in...Imagine what we could get for Dye, Thome, and Konerko. The market is insane.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Now that the Cubs have all the talk around town, do you think KW will try to steal some of that energy and aqcuire a big name?? Things have been too quite lately.... Actually, if anything KW will wait even longer now so that the whole city can laugh at what the Cubs just did.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) So you're telling me you'd rather have 3 prospects not pan out than have 1 prospect pan out? Value trades mean nothing if you get nothing from them. Sure, the Ritchie trade was great for the Pirates way back when, but what the hell did they get out of it? 4 years of mediocrity out of Kip Wells, 2 years of mediocrity out of Josh Fogg, and like 2 months of s***tiness from Sean Lowe. How does that help them in the long run? The only thing that matters is the end result, and I don't think there's really any need to debate that. However, there are cases where you almost have to make the value trade, because the value of it all greatly outweighs what you'd get in return, and you can shortly thereafter send the value away for something that will help with a return. If the Sox were offered 5 top prospects for Freddy Garcia from the Devil Rays, and were offered David Dejesus by the Royals, you pretty much HAVE to make the deal with the DRays, and there's no real way around it. The Sox can then turn and deal those prospects for other parts, and fill their holes that much easier. This is what I'm saying...If KW trades Sweeney for Neifi Perez and Sweeney does not pan out in the future, that doesn't make it a good trade because KW could have gotten more than Neifi Perez for Sweeney.
