Who cares where the game is played? They have Santana and Nathan. We don't. We better just finish ahead of the Twins (or Tigers).

QUOTE(WCSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) That's just flat-out wrong. Manuel had a very good staff in 2000 (Sirotka, Baldwin, Eldred, Parque, Foulke, Wunch) and another solid one in 2003 (Loaiza, Buehrle, Colon, Marte, Wunch, Gordon). Nice try. What? 2000's was mediocre at best even with some career years. Eldred got injured. Baldwin had a miracle first half. Parque was the Game 1 SP in the playoffs for god sake. The staff was definitely no where near "very good." Sirotka- 3.79 era Baldwin- 4.65 era Eldred- 4.58 era Parque- 4.28 era 5th SP- bad Mediocre might even be an overstatement with that rotation I am not a fan of Manuel, but his pitching staffs were never very good. They may have had a few good pitchers, but there was never stability due to huge holes in the rotation.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) The Astros are starved for offense. If they let him go and he's not hitting against NL pitching in that bandbox, put a fork in him. Preston Wilson blows. Luke Scott took over for him as the starter and has been tearing it up for the past month in the bigs as well as for the whole year in AAA. Wilson had no spot on the Astros team. Does not mean Wilson is completely done. If he can accept a part time role, worth a shot, if KW wants a RH bat off the bench.

Magglio Ordonez is one of the most overpaid players in the league. He's good, but no corner OF should be getting paid $15 million unless your name is Manny or Vladi. Thank God Maggs didn't sign that contract.
-
Wouldn't be too bad, but I don't think KW will have much interest. Some team out there is going to have more interest in him than us. That RH bat off the bench would be fantastic though.

Who's giving up on the Sox? Fandom is all about the ups and downs. We are in a down. There will be an up soon. It's baseball, it always happens like that.

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) It also holds true you have no idea what your talking about.... This team is 20 games over .500 Ozzie has a .568 winning percentage in his career.... I don't remember Jerry ever having us 20 games over in August, or a .568 winning percentage 2000 w/ 95 wins....But whatever, Manuel never had as good of a team. Talent overrides a lot of things in sports.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Yes, it's ok if we give up runs as long as it's not the starters that give them up. That's it. Lately, I will take anyone in the BP over our SP in the 7th and 8th innings. Our bullpen may not be "clutch" but rarely do they start an inning anymore. They usually are brought into the tough situations after our SP gets shelled and leaves men on base. Let the RP start fresh and the results, IMO, will be incredibly better than what our SP have been doing in the 7-8 innings.

I wonder how many 5.1 or 5.2 or 6.1 or 6.2 or 7.1 or 7.2 IP lines our SP have. I bet we lead the league... -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) The only one I remember off the top of my head was Garcia....and that was a 5 inning game. And how many did we have last year? Memo to Ozzie...IT'S 2006!!!!!!!! -

QUOTE(soxunited @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) the thing is, the bullpen hasn't exactly been lights out either, look what happened yesterday in Toronto. I would take anyone in the bullpen in the 7th inning versus any one of our SP...Doesn't matter how the SP are pitching before that. A switch is flipped, and they suck. Do we have a CG this year? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) And get suspended for 20 games....please. The media should start stepping in and get Ozzie to use some more homosexual comments...Tick him off Jay! Jay! Jay! Where's Jay when you need him? -

QUOTE(soxunited @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) 8-3 Tigers the saga continues. . . I can't figure out whether I like that or not. Should I be rooting for Detroit or Minny? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Sandy walks? That happens about once every decade. Buehrle's ERA is now 4.89. First BB of the year! Our bottom of the order might, just might be the best in the history of the game. -

Ozzie needs to be slapped in the face by Cooper or Rock...Someone must have a clue on the bench. -

You're crazy if your ideal offseason doesnt include Crawford...

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Apparently, you've never watched Pablo out there. Ok 2nd worst.

At least Hudson's at 40 pitches already. I like that.

QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) So you don't think Buerhle's atrocious five games in July do not cost us the playoff, where he was 0-5 with an ERA ABOVE 11! And I did not even mention how terribly Vazquez and Garcia have been pitching. You can micro-criticize Ozzie all you want, but our chances to get into the playoff lie with our starting pitchers. Make no mistake about it! Fair enough, but it doesn't help trotting out a spiffty defensive player in an important defensive position. Mack has contributed to the pitching problems with his terrible D.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) I don't understand where Guzman fits in Tampa Bay's future. There's obviously a huge logjam in the outfield, and also on the left side of the infield. Eventually, they're going to have to deal some of these guys for pitching... Nice problem to have. They are stacked out there.

Our SP looks dead. A start skipped for most of them would be a very welcomed idea.
