  1. QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) um but isnt how they turn out the ONLY thing that matters??? In the long-run yeah, for sure. But if you can get more for those same guys at the time of the trade, then just because they dont pan out doesnt make it a good value trade.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Didn't really overpay for Freddy. Contreras was a steal from Williams. Jury is still out on Vazquez.(Young hasn't done anything yet) So I'm really not sure where that comes from, other than your doom and gloom attitude. That I agree with. Anaheim is looking for a pitcher, but IMO a bat is the 1st priority. I dont see Garland/Garcia and a prospect enough for Santana. It's not necessarily how the players KW traded turned out, it's their value at the time of the trade. The Freddy trade was considered overpaying at the time. Good for us it turned out in our favor. Vazquez trade is questionable. Contreras was a steal.
  3. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Thats all I was saying. Thats why I like having Cintron on the bench, if something happens he plays short and Uribe goes to 3b. Dont get me wrong I dont want him over there either, Im just saying he could do it is all. Cintron played 11 games over at 3B last season. If anything were to happen there, you'd keep Uribe at SS and put Mack or Cintron at 3B.
  4. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Why is that? If Fields ends up not ready to make the jump then who replaces Crede? You could put Rob at third but he hasnt played there in so long who knows how hid D will be. No matter who you put at third it would be extremly hard to replace Crede's D. That would be the only way Uribe plays 3B. If whatever KW has there to replace Crede struggles. Uribe will not go into the year as the starting 3B.
  5. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) As far as Uribe, he could become even more valueble if the sox do end up trading Crede. I remember a few years ago he played some games at 3rd and played pretty well. He definately has the arm to play it or should I say cannon. If KW trades Crede you can be damn sure that Uribe isn't his replacement at 3B.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) I agree about Masset. As I said earlier in the thread, I don't know what anyone from our organization sees in him. An article I came across recently suggested White Sox scouts (who followed the Rangers system near the end of the season) were interested in him. May have been Foxsports.com I honestly can't remember, as I've been reading through so many articles and message boards these last few few days. Garland and Anderson for Danks/Hurley/Masset may be the best we can expect. New York is unwilling to trade Pelfrey and Santana appears out of reach. What I like about Danks and Hurley is if they continue maturing, we're not stuck in such an awkward position when our veterans begin leaving . You figure of Garcia and Buehrle, one of those two are gone after 2007. Whether it's from trade or FA. An in-house option allows Williams to avoid the market. Broadway, undoubtedly our best SP prospect, doesn't inspire confidence in me. Not only does it put us in a good position when our veteran SP begin to leave, we also could be in the rare position of having 3 quality cheap SP allowing for the flexibility that KW loves to have. It also allows our current pitching prospects to be available for a mid-season trade which is always nice.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Santana is 24 years old. Freddy's ERA was over 5.00 on the road, he also makes a ton more money. Frank Thomas couldn't hit home runs outside of US Cellular Field to save his life, but he seemed to do fine with Oakland. I'll take Santana and his numbers + $7-8 million a year to spend on other parts over Garcia at this point of his career any day. Freddy got hot at the end of the year, but I don't see where that shows he will be dominant in 2007. Seems he and the rest of the Sox staff were quite good at the end of 2005 and it translated to nothing in 2006. And thank god he did...
  8. Um...Yes please. If the market for our SP is netting young studs like Santana then hell, trade 3 of our SP. Please be true.
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) The problem with such a proposal is matching up a possible suitor. You immediately remove the two most referenced teams in Texas and New York Mets. Which teams come to mind? Every American league team (assuming we're not trading within our division) aside from Toronto, the team mentioned within the article, wouldn't fit. National League is a bit different picture, but still rather limited when you remove those unlikely to acquire to two players who'll cost in excess of 13 million. Who's available, Cincinnati? What could they offer for those two? Just thinking of possible suitors for Uribe...I think Cinci would be a good fit. Uribe for Bray?
  10. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) The only way it makes sense is if KW has a deal working and that team wants Uribe as part of it. Say one of our starters and Uribe. KW would not want to get stuck without a good fielding shortstop. There is nothing wrong with a lateral move if it allows something else to happen. Did Juan wear out his welcome as well?
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) And it would also pretty much ensure that we missed the playoffs for at least one year, if not a couple while those two pitchers developed. Not necessarily. If you can (my point is only if this is possible) pick up Heilman and Pelfrey for Garcia. You've got BMac as well as Heilman to move into the backend of the rotation. Meanwhile, you have Pelfrey developing. That allows another trade of a SP to be made. Texas? Danks and others. Suddenly you rid yourself of a ton of salary as well as age for a ton of young talent. A nucleus of BMac, Pelfrey, Danks, and Heilman is pretty damn good. Just an idea.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Good for Kenny. He realizes that his $10 million pitchers are going to be worth big money on the open market this year, when the rest of the starters are looking at 13-15 million per, plus a 4-5 year deal, at least. Mark my words, someone will overpay for one of our starters. If we can get some kind of package involving 2 players like we have been talking about from the Mets, then I hope Kenny doesn't stop at just trading 1 SP. Trading 2 SP and getting those returns could set this franchise up for much extended success.
  13. If we can get our hands on Pelfrey...please god let it happen. Another Kazmir/Zambrano deal would be nice.
  14. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) looking like another wasted number one pick. we do that too much. if they're going to trade him, my worry is his value has dropped so much he's little more than a throw in. They better find somebody else because we know robby mack ain't the answer. but I fear they're going to stick Sweeney in center. don't believe he's ready for that. Not completely wasted. He still has value. He'll help bring back something good in a trade. But for us and our CF problems, yes it looks like it was wasted. But maybe Brian will help solve our CF problems through a trade...
  15. If all it took to get Crawford was BMAC, KW should be on the horn immediately trying to get someone like Danks from Texas or someone similar. Definitely could see KW trying to swing a deal for a young SP if he knew he could get Crawford for BMAC.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) He started 2 games last year and had a sub 4 era. Thats all we have to go off of his performance last year. BMAC is more valuable because he is a pitcher, its harder to find good pitchers for his price. Why do you think TB would be willing to give up "a potential hall of famer" for BMAC? Because BMAC is worth that price. Where was it written that TB would trade Crawford for BMAC?
  17. Sorry, but one more...Sickly insane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlPAkgx9c_E
  18. Or perhaps this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIzkIMSUrN0

  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) Dye's a better right fielder than he is a left fielder. Ichiro is pretty much the same whether it be in left, center, or right. I'm no math wiz but I think Rock's got that formula down. Ichiro is one of the best RF in the game. Why waste that to some degree in LF? Ichiro's arm is ridiculous. Dye's is is not in the same league. Dye's arm would be one of the better ones in the league from LF. Ichiro's is the best in RF. It would be a sin to waste Ichiro's arm in LF.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Why make that change? Ichiro has shown he can play anywhere, Dye only plays RF. Ichiro is vastly superior in RF than Dye. I believe you get JD to switch to LF.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) Garcia's last couple starts gave him considerably more trade value (since it was pretty low), but I also think they'll make the Sox think long and hard about moving him. Not a big fan of moving Garcia for Crisp but I'd consider doing it if we were able to get a prospect that could help us out or someone else. Or if we are talking about moving Garcia for a guy like Crisp (not necessarily Crisp). I'm not so sure a trade for Crisp would need to involve Freddy. Papelbon is moving to the rotation next year, they'll have Lester/Schilling/Beckett back for sure and I believe Wakefield as well. I do think Crisp could be had, and I would very much welcome it, but Garcia probably wouldnt be the guy. I would think the Red Sox would be looking for a bullpen arm + a ML for Crisp. Thus, I think Cotts might interest the Red Sox more than Garcia. This would be excellent in that Garcia still would be movable, and could replentish the bullpen.
  23. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) actually, the one knock on Ryan Zimmerman is his putrid defense. He had issues in his only minor league season as well as issues this year in the majors. he's a loooong way from the gold glove. just look at his .965 fielding percentage this season, compare that to .978... That's about exactly the opposite of what I've heard. From what I've seen he looks pretty damn solid.
