  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Ted Lilly AL ERA's 5.63 5.37 4.34 4.06 5.56 4.32 avg 4.88 NL-3.38 Jon Garland Al ERA 4.41 Im just sayin.... He may be a little better than league avg (yes he is league avg is 4.47) in the AL, but in the NL, if his ERA drops a point and a half which it seems to do when moving to the NL central, he would be flirting with an under 3 ERA. Then you could say that for every AL pitcher. If Johan goes to the Dodgers, his ERA will be 2.10. If Contreras goes to the NL, he becomes a useful pitcher. Even if it is true that all AL pitchers moving to the NL would see a decrease like Ted Lilly, that shouldn't make Jon more valuable because every pitcher will see the same improvement. Barry Zito says hi by the way.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) Boras is Andrew Jones' agent. That shouldn't be an issue for a one year contract.
  3. If 3 of Danks/Contreras/Floyd/Haeger/Gio/Egbert/etc. are in the rotation next season, we aren't making the playoffs. We had a big issue with the 5th SP spot for the whole decade, now we have 3 5th SP to worry about filling.
  4. Bring Jose back as clubhouse coach. Nothing like good ole pregame Mexican porn tales to lighten the mood...Pauly might get angry though. Scratch the idea.
  5. Yeah I guess I'd go Gallardo, but fitting our needs, Weeks takes care of 2B and leadoff for many years. I guess I have been yearning for a decent leadoff man since Durham was traded. Once (if) Weeks gets healthy, he ought to flirt with 30-30 each season.
  6. If you can get Weeks for Garland, you get someone that can type 1000 words per minute to type up the paperwork, and you get the hell out of Dodge. With that said, we aren't getting Weeks.
  7. Weeks hit .235 last season with an OBP of .374. When Rickie puts it all together, he's going to be something else as long as he can stay healthy. After Fielder, he's the next Brewer that I would like to get.
  8. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) Well I disagree on your assessment that the White Sox cant win this year. Lets just assume that the Sox are willing to add 2 pieces (Hunter/Cabrera) Lets also assume that the Sox are going to get rid of 2 contracts (Garland, Crede) The White Sox Line Up Would look like: 1. Owens -LF 2. Richar - 2b 3. Miggy - 3b 4. Thome- DH 5. Konerko- 1b 6. Hunter- CF 7. Dye- RF 8. AJ- C 9. Uribe SS Pitching Rotation: Buerhle, Vaz, Danks, Count, Floyd That is assuming that for Garland you get nothing that can play this year. Its not a clear cut favorite, but at the same time I would believe that this team could win a lot more games than this year. (Note) Added assumption that in any deal for Cabrera you will be losing Fields. That rotation is at best 4th in the division. That top of the order is the worst in the Majors. And we still have the same bullpen. We improve on two things: CF and OBP. We get worse in one thing: SP. And other holes remain: Bullpen and Leadoff. That team does not compete with Detroit or Cleveland.
  9. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) Why not? They need pitching and have a surplus of bats. Why did Grady Sizemore get traded to Cleveland? Young talent gets moved all the time for pitching. Huh? Sizemore was a prospect with no Major League experience, not a guy coming off a 20-20 .890+ OPS season on a playoff caliber team. There are plenty of other things Milwaukee would move before Hart for pitching help.
  10. Please no Estrada. He threw out 7.6% of runners attempting to steal, and he's coming off surgery in his knee and elbow.
  11. Miguel Cabrera is a better leadoff hitter than Carl Crawford.
  12. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Nov 11, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) You would certainly have the option of moving Cabrera there, and finding a new LF. You don't screw with your best hitter like that, and I don't think they will. If Crede's off and on injured, you won't see Cabrera moving to 3B every time Crede's back flairs up. If Josh is indeed involved in a Cabrera trade, KW better be damn certain he brings in a quality backup 3B. Mike Lamb would be nice.
  13. Are we going to compete the next two seasons while Cabrera is under his current contract? Even with Cabrera next season, I don't like where the team stands as of now (improvements could still be made obviously). If we are going to give up 3 players that likely will be fixers at minimum cost in 2010, we better damn well make a handful of more moves or sign Cabrera long-term.
  14. And when Crede confirms he's not entirely healthy or useful with the bat? Andy Gonzalez at 3B.
  15. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Qualls is no decent reliever, he's pretty good and just had his best year. I think I would just see if Sweeney does anything, IMO he could be .290 BA .335 OBP type guy. Thing is, even if Sweeney does get to be a .285/.340/.400 type OF, that's still below average as a corner OF.
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) *NO firesale would be fun, regardless of what talent might come from it. That would guarantee a few losing seasons. I give Kenny credit. He's going out and trying to win w/o giving up the future. It remains to be seen if it's the right move. Both KW and Brian Cashman banked on restocking their systems in 2007 with young arms. It didn't pan out for the sox. Yet those arms [Floyd, Gio, Massett, Danks] might be heard from more this yr. It's easy to do that when you don't have much of one.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) When has KW ever waited too long on a deal he wanted to do or a guy he wanted to sign & lost out because of it? If anything, a lot more people have criticized him for jumping the gun on deals. Not waiting to see if we could get Vazquez for a lower price, or not waiting more to see if we could get more for Garcia, etc. KW sets a price and when it gets met, he pull the trigger, he doesn't wait for the highest deal if his price has been met. Um, how pray tell are we supposed to know when KW has missed a player he wanted because he waited too long? How does one acquire this information?
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) Are we talking Ordonez/Lee/Crede/Garland/Buehrle, etc.? That was 1998/1999; not that long ago. Most of their other minor leaguers were overvalued. Wasn't the Sox' farm system rated #1 in 2000? I believe it was.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) No they're not, and I'm going to make a detailed post on this tonight. The main thing, they have the starting pitching to contend next season, IF, they decide to hold onto Garland. A few changes mainly to the pen and bringing in a new leadoff hitter and this team can contend next season IMHO, at least for a wildcard spot. Contend for what? As it stands, our rotation is 3rd best in the division behind CLE and MIN. Detroit may even be debatable if Miller progresses. Bonderman is certainly not as bad as he pitched last season. We have 2 holes in the rotation in Contreras and whoever is 5th. We need a lot to go right to have a rotation capable of contending with CLE, MIN, and DET pitching wise. And offensively, well, that's an entirely new story.
  20. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Yes, a steady decline-as an entire organization, mostly during the Williams regime. Many of you arent old enough to remember the respected farm system we once had. I would hope we are. 2000's not that long ago.
  21. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) I like the way Richar swings-he has power potential, and speed. Here's a What if.................... What if we do come across a second base/lead off either by Free agent or trade. Does anyone think Richar could play LF? He's definitely athletic enough to make the switch, but I don't think it's necessary. It's not like we HAVE to get his bat in the lineup. Plus our minor league IF depth, is not great. I guess it depends on how many years that FA 2B is signed for.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) If the Twins want to set themselves up for the next 7 years, I still say the single correct decision is to trade Johan to someone like the Dodgers, Angels, Yankees, or Mets, someone with a solid farm system who could afford to resign Johan...for pretty much everything they've got. Kershaw, Kemp, and Laroche would fill what, 3 holes on the Twins, set them up for 7 years with minimum contract high talent guys, and allow them to spend money elsewhere even this year. Trading a young pitcher for a young player would be nice for them...but it doesn't do 1 thing; it doesn't prevent people from walking. Trading Johan before he hits FA, while Ballsy, makes your clock go from 1 year before 1 guy hits FA to 6+ years before a couple guys start hitting FA. If you're operating on a budget, I don't see how you can't try it. Not to mention, if he can get back to even close where he was, the Twins are adding Liriano next year, basically. Not that Johan Santana is expendable/replaceable, but if there was a time he was close to it, it would be now.
  23. QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) I'd rather have Richar at 2nd and leading off than have Owens as an everyday player. As would I. Although, both could certainly be possible. Owens-Richar 1-2 in the lineup, that is.
  24. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I can't possibly imagine Fields starting at AAA with Owens starting in LF. I feel relatively certain that's not going to happen. I'm with you there. I do think the choice here is Crede or Fields, and it has nothing to do with Owens. I don't see Josh in LF next season. I do see him at 3B with Owens in LF, unfortunately.
  25. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) You're right. Stuff wise I agree...But Slowey is a talented arm. If Garza would prove his game a little at the mlb level I would go along with what everyone says about him but for now, Slowey pounds the strikezone and doesnt walk anyone. He easily is top 3 or command coming from the minors. Homer prone though. He may not be what Kershaw projects to become. He may not be David Price, Homer Bailey, or Andrew Miller but he is a good arm IMO. Slowey doesn't have an out pitch. You can pound the zone all you want, but you better be able to miss some bats with good movement. Slowey doesn't have that yet. It's evidenced by his 16 HR given up in 66 IP. Supposedly Slowey threw close to 90% fastball in the minors, according to BA. He's not going to be able to do that in the majors. I don't disagree he could be a useful pitcher, but don't put his name in the same category as Kershaw, that's all. Their ceilings aren't close.
