  1. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Rather Have Harris. 1. Harris is Cheaper 2. Harris is Younger 3. Harris is good with the Glove Ichuchi is older and more expensive and the thing they may have in common is that there unproven. At least Harris comes cheap he fails good bye to him don't lose much. Iguchi fails and were tied up for Millions. I don't think this guy is the Second comming of Ichiro, he may be more like Tsuyoshi Shinjo. If they sign him and he makes a splash then nice, it would be a help, but i wouldn't bank on it another thing to think about... who is more likely to make "a splash"? and what will our chances be if willie is our starting second baseman. sure iguchi is a risk, but if he does make a splash, we have very good chances of going to an ALCS. that is if everyone does what they should. willie can be solid, but he won't be an impact player like iguchi can be. that's why i like iguchi more than i would have liked cora or other guys like that. we know what we'll get out of them, and it won't be special, we can get something great out of iguchi.
  2. yeah, it'd be nice, but there's no way we acquire castillo. i doubt they gouge the bullpen to pick this guy up, even if ozzie is in love with him. also, i don't see delgado playing for a team like the marlins, he just doesn't seem to fit the bill.
  3. who is matsuzaka? what position does he play and why is he so good?
  4. just you guys watch. jermaine dye is gonna be huge this year, both him and contreras. that said, frank i think is still the best on the team.
  5. eh, i would guess that it's not a decision that could be made before the season starts. assuming we do get iguchi, my guess is rowand gets the nod at the 2 spot at the beginning of the year simply because of team seniority. iguchi will get his chances though, and i would predict he becomes the second batter with rowand number 6. it just seems to make the most sense. i guess if dye is disappointing, he could end up number 5. this is all assuming also that frank will be in the lineup.
  6. yes, if that offer is true! this team will be wicked. 180 would be nice, but then you're expecting rowand to at least like 50 bases, sorry. i think 130 is a very high number that we could shoot for.
  7. well... even with all those great addititions, we did lose arguably our 2 best players. maybe that's the explanation?
  8. it just seems like he's asking us to risk a lot. i don't know how many clubs would be willing to give him 3 years. it's not like he's getting a small salary until he proves himself. what'd shingo make last year? it was less than 1mil, right? and he's the all-time saves leader in japan. 2 years with an option on the 3rd maybe, but i think asking a 3rd year is a bit much.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Houston gets involved after losing out on Beltran, unless Boras burned that bridge. i think so too. i think they are hurting with all of the losses and they should have some extra cash.
  10. i like willie. i don't buy this inconsistency stuff that keeps coming up. it seems to me like whenever he does fall off, it is because of a change in his role. he was doing so well at the beginning of last season, but then if i remember right, he was moved for a few games to CF, and sat a few games in favor of uribe. he never recovered. before that he was batting over 300 and looking very solid. i think he can do it.
  11. surfin, i saw the astros have interest in maggs as well, now that they've lost out on beltran.
  12. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) I've been to Philly and if you haven't tried their Philly cheese steaks you are seriously missing out. I went about 3-4 years ago and I can still take that PCS in my mouth. but then you'd miss out on chicago style pizza
  13. we've got a good team. one thing we haven't talked too much about is how ozzie will be able to handle them. it's the team he wants and we'll see if he can manage a small ball team successfully. that and the question of whether or not dye and especially frank and the duke can stay healthy. if we stay healthy and ozzie can skip, we should win the division.
  14. just saw on ESPNEWS that they wouldn't take the astro's deal because there was a limited no trade clause. the mets gave him a full no trade clause in his contract. so there's our answer.
  15. the best fit would be castillo, but the problem is we have to give to get with him. so i said iguchi, because we wouldn't have to give up talent for him. if he performs like he should, (stolen base champ in japan) then 2.25 or whatever would be underpaying for what we get. not saying he'll be the champ here, but if comes close to his old numbers, that would be huge for this team.
  16. soriano wouldn't fit this team. not a contact hitter, not a good fielder.
  17. good point juggernaut. i don't know what the 'stros situation is, but they had a good team last year, and i bet they would be at least as successful as the mets this year if not more. now he can go get whipped by the braves instead of whipping on the cubs. oh well.
  18. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) hey frahungski, I like your sig. Lance Johnson was one of my favorite players. yeah, he was a stud. i like your sig as well, anna is a personal fave of mine...
  19. hey, we should all be glad maggs didn't take our offer and was 'greedy.' we look to be a better team this year without him. i don't think we should give him that hard of a time, he probably didn't want to stay here and that was his way of getting out, you can't blame someone for wanting that. he gave us a lot of good times and i still wish him the best... so long as its not with the cubs and preferably not with anyone in our division . Frank™
  20. i think we are underestimating the importance of a good setup man. while marte may not be the flashiest/most dominant pitcher out there, it's very important to have a guy you can put in there and know he won't blow a 2-3 run lead. i do think that the addition of castillo would make us an obvious choice for division champs, but if we were the division champs, someone like marte would be priceless in the offseason and in other big games. if we could find a way to work it without giving up someone who is a key to the team, it's an obvious choice. i think it would be acceptable to give up one upper-tier prospect for this guy, if we can sign him. oh, and winning ugly, to compare AJ's OBP and soriano's is retarded. one is a second basemen who you expect to bat at the top of the order and be successful a lot of the time. the other is a catcher who is a great boost to the bottom of a lineup. no comparison. Frank
  21. eck would have been nice, but now i really don't see too much of an upside to any of these guys
  22. i just thought that he would have filled the leadership role on the team very well. also, another problem that the sox have had is consistency. it seems to me like he is a very solid and consistent player, something we would want in the 2 spot and at short.
  23. i'm down, cound me in. ever since mvp baseball 2003, and i picked him up as a FA, i've been a fan. man did he have a nasty curve on that game......
