He does say stupid things but his voice is still extremely annoying to me.
  2. I love watching Contreras pitch but he is truly Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. One outing he's unhittable and another he can't find the plate. Beat me to it.
  3. Agreed, but $525,000 would be chump change if Walker can finish up camp strong and do a good job for us during the regular season. Our division is full of lefty bats.
  4. Contreras just had a great outing today against the Mariners. Jose Contreras 6 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 6 SO 0 HR
  5. Just making a point. I sure wouldn't mind having Freel as a fall-back option for Crede, who looks poised for another breakout season.

  8. So because the Reds stupidly and ridiculously overpaid Milton, I just got owned? Give me a break. :rolly Everyone and their mother knew that the Reds signed Milton to a moronic deal that not even the Yankees were willing to give him. Referencing one of the worst pitcher contracts in the history of the MLB does not strengthen your argument in my opinion. Is Garland worth $3.4 million? Of course. Is he worth $5+ million. I'm not sure. Just because other teams are willing to overpay for mediocrity doesn't mean that we should too.
  9. The thing you guys are forgetting is that Garland keeps getting more and more expensive and he is not performing any better than a good 5th starter. He will make $3.4 million this year and will earn even more next year since he's only under a 1-year deal. Is a good 5th starter worth $5 million? There is a time to trade underperforming and somewhat overpriced guys -- when you can get young, cheap talent.
  10. The "Hottie Scotty" radio ad is extremely disturbing, especially considering the ad is done with a guy's voice. :puke
  11. Agreed. Garland is going to win more games for us than the addition of Willy Mo Pena. Now if we are out of contention at the deadline, then you guys can start the Garland for Pena rumors. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense right now.
  12. If you really believe he is 23, that is. He is from the Dominican afterall. By the way, the jury is out on Pena moreso than Rowand. Rowand owns a career .290 AVG and .342 OBP. Pena owns a career .245 AVG and .302 OBP.
  13. I guess I'm just not impressed with him. 22 BB, 108 SO, and a .316 OBP is disgusting. I understand potential but his minor league numbers sucked and he appears to just be a free-swinging strikeout master with a ton of power like Borchard. By the way, remember that Pena is from the Dominican so his age is automatically in doubt.
  14. But we have Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney waiting in the wings. We don't need another outfielder.
  15. JimH said that they were looking at Borchard for some reason. I was just continuing that trend. I still want to know why everyone wants a strikeout master like Willy Mo Pena, especially considering his minor league numbers sucked. Both Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney will probably be better outfielders.
  16. Ben Davis and Joe Borchard for Ryan Freel and prospect(s) sounds good to me. I don't think they really need a catcher though. Jason LaRue isn't bad at all and Javier Valentin (Jose's brother) is his backup.
  17. I never said I would give up Garland for Freel either. It would have to be Garland for Freel and prospect(s) and I still wouldn't be sure if I'd want to do it. I don't like the idea of throwing B-Mac into the rotation so soon. Speaking of minor league numbers, Willy Mo Pena's are even worse... http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/wily_mo_pena.shtml .255 AVG .311 OBP .432 SLG .743 OPS :puke All I'm saying is that I'd rather have a backup plan for Crede incase he sucks again this year than have another outfielder since we already have a glut of them. Dye will probably outperform Willy Mo Pena this year anyways.
  18. Would you like to know Podsednik's minor league career OBP? Oh yeah, .347. So what is wrong with .356 anyways? Freel was the Reds' leadoff man for many games last season. I don't understand some of you guys. We have the ultimate offensive black hole of Joe Crede at 3rd base and you want ANOTHER outfielder over a 3rd baseman? Freel could be a disgusting #2 hitter behind Podsednik and we could have great speed at 5 positions in our lineup. Just look at Willy Mo Pena's minor league totals and tell me you still want him. He's a free-swinging K master.
  19. Ummm, why? How many more outfielders do we need? Dye Everett Timo Podsednik Rowand No way are we trading for another outfielder, unless we move that outfielder to another team in a 3-way deal.
  20. If we were to make a trade with the Reds, it would have to be Freel. Kenny sees how Crede is sucking it up again in camp and he probably knows he needs a backup 3rd baseman. Freel is the ultimate Ozzie-ball player. He gets on base, steals a bunch of bases, and can play multiple positions. I just don't think we can trade Garland and throw B-Mac to the flames so soon. But it sure would be nice to have another leadoff man incase Podsednik struggles.

I really hope we never get a guy with as stupid sounding a voice as Mike North. I wouldn't enjoy my ears bleeding while watching a Sox game.
  22. That would be impressive if they signed the one guy who could choke away more games than LaTroy. But unlike LaTroy, at least Koch would own up to his failures.
