  1. Yep. El Duque looked horrible that entire inning but made Nomar look foolish. He used the Eephus and some other junk to trick Nomar.
  2. El Duque is getting rocked now. 2-1 Cubs. Runners at 2nd and 3rd. No outs.
  3. Uggghhh. Blooper by Hollandsworth to LF. Aramis Ramirez scores. 1-1 Tie. Dubois singles. Runners at corners. No outs.
  4. Iguchi singles. Everett doubles to knock him in. 1-0 Sox! Everett is on fire!
  5. I didn't quite understand Juggernaut's comment either. I thought he was trying to get to the point that ground ball pitchers (i.e. Maddux) would probably have more success than flamethrowers (i.e. Wood) at the Cell because anything hit in the air has a chance of leaving the park. Basically, the less balls hit in the air at the Cell the better.
  6. Yet another mention of possibly trading Ben Davis and keeping Jamie Burke on the roster. This time it's from WhiteSox.com: It seems that the key for Burke making the roster is that Buehrle loves him as his personal catcher. Afterall, with Pierzynski playing most of the time because of his bat, we don't really need Ben Davis around. Burke could just catch for Buehrle and maybe someone else every week. By the way, Kenny has gotten pretty good at hyping guys up for a trade.
  7. The Bears aren't going to carry 4 QB's on their roster next season. If they re-sign George it will be Grossman, George, and Hutch. What team carries 4 QB's?
  8. Of course you do but how is he going to make throws from the much deeper left field then?
  9. Ummm, left field in PNC Park is tougher to play than right field. PNC Park's left field is a cavern...

  11. It's spelled Mackowiak. Also, the Pirates are expected to start the season with Wiggington at 3B, Jason Bay in LF, Tike Redman in CF, and Matt Lawton in RF. Mackowiak will be their super-sub off the bench. I don't think Willie is a stud by any means but he is more talented than an overpaid stiff like Juan Encarnacion. The fact that the Pirates would even consider Encarnacion just proves my point about Littlefield's questionable moves. Also, Adkins is looking great in camp and could be a decent 5th starter. If he had no trade value why are there scouts at camp looking at him? I honestly think Willie and Adkins would be more than enough for Mackowiak.
  12. Guzman got rocked in his last outing on March 13th against the Angels... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=250313103 A Guzman (L,0-1) 1 1-3 innings 6 hits allowed 3 earned runs 1 BB 0 SO
  13. 39? Ben Davis is only 28 right now. Michael Barrett was picked later than Davis in the 1st Round of the 1995 Draft and he didn't break out until last season with the Flubs. It may not be likely that Davis will break out anytime soon but it's definately within the realm of possibilities. Could you have predicted that Barrett would have a huge year last season? I doubt it.
  14. Robert Machado, ex-White Sox scrub catcher? Wow. Davis at least has some potential. It's not much but it's more than Machado. Machado probably isn't even starting catcher material for AAA teams. I wouldn't call Willie or Adkins trash. Remember, all it takes for a team to be interested in a guy is a hot spring, which Davis is currently having.
  15. By the way, I never said I expected much in a trade for just Davis. If we traded Davis we could also package guys like Willie, Borchard, Adkins, or Diaz with him.
  16. It was a joke, duder. Take it sleazy.
  17. Robby Hammock has to first recover from surgery on his torn labrum from last month and the D-Backs are looking to re-sign and rehabilitate him. Fordyce is nearing retirement because the only team that was interested in him was the Yankees but they wanted him to be a catcher in the minors. At least give some better examples than those two guys.
  18. Ben Davis is making only $1 million.
  19. I think they like Cota but he's far from impressive, but then again neither is Davis so maybe you're right.
  20. Why not? Benito Santiago is 40 and Cota isn't a top prospect or anything. And J.R. House is gone. Do they have any other good catching prospects coming up in their system?
  21. Teams that could use a catcher... Dodgers - They currently have a stellar catching duo of David Ross and Paul Bako and Dioner Navarro is not ready for the majors yet. Pirates - They have a catching duo of 40 year old Benito Santiago and catching prospect, Humberto Cota. They also just released their top catching prospect in J.R. House due to his myriad of injuries.
  22. I'm not sure but I found a similar quote in the March 25th issue of the Sporting News magazine that I just got in the mail. Here is the quote... Keep in mind that Ben Davis could still have some trade value. Look no further than the Flubs who traded for an underachieving catching prospect in Michael Barrett. He finally panned out for them last season and it looks like a good trade now. By the way, Ben Davis was the 1st round (2nd pick) of the 1995 draft and Michael Barrett was the 1st round (28th pick) of that same draft. Davis is also a year younger than Barrett.
  23. You seem to forget that it all comes down to money with the Pirates. That's why Littlefield was robbed in the Aramis Ramirez trade. That's why he traded Jason Kendall. And that's why he would likely be open to dealing Mackowiak. Mackowiak may not even be a starter for the Pirates this year. Even though Mackowiak's $1.5 million salary sounds dirt cheap to us, he is still only under a 1-year contract and will be set to earn even more money next season.
  24. This just goes to show that if the Pirates are willing to trade for an overpaid scrub like Encarnacion, they would probably be willing to give up Mackowiak for a scrub like Diaz. Do I have to even mention the Aramis Ramirez trade? :headshake The Pirates can be robbed. Littlefield is a putz.
  25. Good backup backstop, horrible frontline backstop. I could see the Dodgers wanting him though. They were interested in him a month or so ago. Hell, Davis could start for them. If we trade Davis, Burke would be our backup catcher because he can also play some 3B. We would probably trade Davis for a prospect.
