You mean Burke doesn't have alot of trade value even though he has a .331 AVG and a .379 OBP in a whopping 133 career at bats? Also, doesn't being 33 years old make Burke more valuable, like a finely aged wine?

McCarthy has an 87 - 91 MPH fastball which is more than enough heat (think Buehrle) considering he changes speeds so well with his changeup. His curveball is excellent and Rooney and Farmer said it may even be the best on the roster. His control is outstanding (think Maddux).

They also said on the Score that the committee may have incriminating documents against the players that are testifying. So if the players perjure themselves tomorrow, the committee could have evidence to prove they were lying. This is gonna be good!

On WSCR 670, Lester Munson thinks that McGwire, Sosa, and Palmeiro will all deny using steroids to the committee. He says they won't plead the 5th because that will make the public assume guilt. The committee will then have to find a trainer or someone else to prove that the players perjured themselves. He doesn't think that there will end up being any legal prosecution taken against the players though.

Jason Giambi isn't testifying. They didn't want to interfere with his BALCO case. :rolly But we all know he's guilty already anyways.

Sosa will either plead the 5th or lie and perjure himself. I don't see him admitting to using steroids but I would be shocked if he did.

The Dodgers needed a catcher badly since they traded Paul Lo Duca last season, failed to trade for Charles Johnson last season and this offseason, Brent Mayne pretty much retired, and Dioner Navarro is not MLB-ready yet. They could have claimed Burke when we designated him for assigment on 1/7/05. Instead, the Dodgers signed Paul Bako on 1/11/05. Burke went unclaimed and the Sox outrighted him to Charlotte on 1/14/05. The Dodgers would rather pay sucky-ass Paul Bako $650,000 to fill a roster spot than claim Jamie Burke. They now have the stellar catching duo of David Ross and Paul Bako. What does that tell you? Once again, Burke has no trade value. How much more proof do you need?

On the Score 670, Lester Munson is reporting that one of the congressmen is going to go straight at the players about steroids. He will ask Sosa and McGwire if they were using performance-enhancing drugs during the homerun race of 1998 and how often they used them!

I think we will just sign Burke to a minor league contract and he will play at Charlotte. But I don't think you realize that every MLB team had the chance to claim Burke when we designated him for assignment. If any team wanted him they could have had him for nothing. Barring injuries, why would a team want to give up anything for him now? I love Burke as our third catcher at Charlotte but he has no trade value.

I would strongly disagree. Ben Davis has a major league contract which is guaranteed. If the Sox released Davis they would still have to pay him his $1 million. Jamie Burke is a Non-roster invitee. The Sox could just release Burke without paying him. But you would be right about Davis being more likely to be traded though. Davis is much younger than Burke and he's a former 1st Round pick. A team might want to take a chance on him like the Cubs did with Michael Barrett.

Agreed, give it up. The only thing a team would have lost is their waiver priority, not a draft pick. Burke has zero trade value, as much as you hate to admit it. If he did, a team would have claimed him already when they had the chance.
