  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 20, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) Chuck Garfein just tweeted that it's pronounced Robert like David Robert-son. Isn't it "ro-bare"? Initial articles were Ro-bear, but subsequently seems like it's Robert indeed. Maybe the middle name thing
  2. Kind of reminds me of Iguchi in that I really feel the fans kind of willed this one on by being so in tune with it. I wavered big this morning but one reason I thought Jerry would spend big was he already proved his point with new CBA. After doing the model citizen approach to help influence cost control rules we have seen Sox bend a bit more (Rodon signing)
  3. https://twitter.com/BenBadler/status/866020978618490880 Really interested to hear this scenario with DSL.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Out of curiousity...what does MLB do with the taxes they'll collect on a signing like this? Is this what is distributed back to the smaller market teams via revenue sharing? I actually read about this but I can't remember for the life of me. Want to say some percentage goes to players union other to operating budget.
  5. Let's just give it to him and move on. The 2019 Sox will have some serious speed.
  6. Really excited for some first hand accounts soon. Going to guess he gets every opportunity in CF so I'd guess kanny in a few weeks. Prior to this, we basically had to have Basabe pan out or get one in a trade. Have one big bullet in the chamber now. That's how bullets work right? You put bigger ones in?
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) How high does he enter our prospect rankings? #2? How much are we paying in penalties? I think we had maybe $1 mill in clear so double it and subtract $1 million.
  8. Man I am so psyched. The silence this morning had me going nuts, and even though I hate this phrase, I really did feel like we already burned the boats and it was a disaster if we missed out.
  9. Aw man I missed it breaking and HELL YES thanks Hahn
  10. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 20, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) I am not putting too much stock in the hat. Latin players always work out in MLB gear, not always the team they sign with. Maybe he just likes that picture? On the day he is eligible to sign to one of the two rumored teams in the running? I unno man. He is probably excited, this is one of the biggest days of his life, I don't think an action like that is just " Better update my IG photo"
  11. No idea but I had to request him an hour ago.
  12. QUOTE (ypres @ May 20, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) The hat pic is probably a ploy to twist the Cardinals' arm in negotiating. If true, would be hilarious and pretty shrewd.
  13. This is hilarious but lol if this is not his real account and he signs with cards. That would be a huge gut punch. I'd also block him, that'll show the fake account.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Is this as bad as college fans on signing day, or just close? Worse probs. Otoh, im his instagram friend now.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) The Luis Robert instagram account now has him in a Sox hat. I can't tell you if real thou. Internet kids! Tell me
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) So what happens on the Sox had some big names lined up for J2, but they sign Robert? Basically they have to renege on those deals and that can't help for future dealings. They didn't put themselves in that position though.
  17. The Luis Robert instagram account now has him in a Sox hat.
  18. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) I'm sure that Roberts is part A; however, given the money that will be spent and the 2 years of being in the penalty box, that ends up being a heavy price. Plan B would work out fine too. Except this already demands our 2017 class be garbage. We have a self imposed penalty box already.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) BS. You are talking one year and a $4.25 million pool. They still probably have 300k guys, and maybe another interesting player or 2 will emerge, and they would have everything to play with. If Robert is anywhere near what he is cracked up to be, it is definitely worth passing on giving a couple of 16 year olds seven figures, who, if all goes well, won't help you for 6 or 7 years anyway, to take a shot. Normally, they would have zero chance at a guy like this. I personally factor in the opportunity cost that Sox will be one of a handful of teams to not take advantage of the old INTL rules even though they paid lip service to doing so at multiple Sox fests. We'll see how the teams that had a big intl class do in the future, but my guess is white Sox have a self made uphill battle.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Or that it's far more likely Cards end up with a better talent due to the hackgate punishment It was a slap on the wrist. Should have been either signifant money or more severe draft punishment.
  21. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Also I think it's stupid if a team goes over the cap it doesn't matter until future years. That's idiotic but it is what it is. Yeah "if you break the rules make sure to break them big to make up for the punishment!" Was stupid. And annoyed they didn't really punish the huge offenders in the new CBA. They played the system, Sox get system better for themselves and all who broke system. We come up short.
  22. Cardinals at 24. Sox offered 20 but did not know how to budget for non round numbers.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Quintana and Swarzak to the Brewers for Ray, Diaz, Phillips and Gatewood. Who says no? Brewers. They aren't going to take a shortcut like that.
  24. IMO Hahn stirred the coals a lot on fans excitement for Robert. Should be mentioned that a plan B for Robert is another marginal intl free agent class, which was only acceptable with Robert. If we lose out, it's a big tactical mistake to me. How many trade targets for Sale and Q were intl signings? A ton. Gleybar, Robles, Meitan, Soto, Acuna. We are trading top ML talent and trying to make it up by acquiring guys we could have had for a few million if we just had a good intl free agent strategy. But we don't.
