Kathy Griffin Does Something Very Stupid
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Does anyone actually like her as a comedian? Her positives are about as high as Sean Penn. It would be quite different if this was Tom Hanks, The Rock, Clooney or Bono trolling Trump, etc. They actually have viable careers to lose, just like The Dixie Chicks and Sinead O'Connor did. This is Don Rickles or Joan Rivers territory here, yet even less classy, which is quite difficult to pull off. What's funny is this is getting 5x more coverage than the seemingly more impactful issue of global climate change. Or Gosling, Helen Mirren, Pratt, Witherspoon. Or even Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, even Peter Sellers!

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) Hosmer or Smoak? Sort of...Mark Grace is the name that comes to mind. Speaking of contact, Schwarber with 60 k's in 175 at bats now. 210ish, 24 homers and 750ish career ops. Olerud career slash 295/398/465 roughly Smoak 213/310/405 Hosmer is closer but lesser. Smoak isn't same atmosphere. Olerud gets thrown around a ton, but its likely he is the absolute ceiling, not the likely comp.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Reports from around the time were that Moncada would not have been in deal, instead it centered around Benitendi and Rodriguez. I remember something like that for Q but the Boston Globe had a great story breaking down the talks with Dombrowski and Hahn providing quotes. Two stuck out: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...LLLP/story.html

Would really be something to get stellar performances from all our nats acquisitions in a single night.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) I honestly don't think the market really accurately values that kind of difference in control at this point. It seems as though anything over 2 years sort of falls into a bucket of "controllable," while anything less falls into "rental." Totally agree with this.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (gatnom @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Is it weird that I wouldn't mind them drafting Jo Adell but would be disappointed if they drafted Jeren Kendall? Not to me. The idea that Adell made an adjustment that smoothed out his swing while in a crucial senior season is a good sign. Seems like knock on kendall was surprising lack of progress his junior year. Addel hasn't shown that. But he very well could My top board of reasonable players is Bukauskus, Hasely. Would be home runs. I'm fine with Kendall/Adell. I'm nervous, but I don't think you can just write off players like that because they are harder.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) By all reports Yoan Moncada was not available at the trade deadline. I have not seen a report that said that. If anything what I saw was that Hahn went into the offseason saying he'd come down in price and that we weren't serious in July. We had a deal around Kopech/Moncada and were haggling over Devers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Especially since we saw a huge payoff by holding on to Chris Sale until the off season. Did we though?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) I think by July if not earlier, you'll see a bunch of guys move up - Zavala, Booker, Fisher, maybe one of the middle infielders, along with Hansen, maybe Lambert, and some of the relievers in Kanny (there are a few decent ones). Not much blocking any of them in W-S except at catcher, but I think Collins ends up in BHAM by then. That clears room for some draft picks to filter up to Kanny too. I'd like to see Adolfo stay in Kanny for most or all of the year though. Yeah, definitely keep Adolfo down, but maybe move up the 4 year college guys together.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Of all the "fixable" flaws for prospects to have entering their pro careers, it sure seems like "making contact" comes with the highest bust rate. I don't know if that's actually true overall, but it definitely seems to be in our organization. I don't know if this is true. How many low power guys become high power guys? How many slow guys become fast guys? Weak arm guys become strong arm? Seems reductive, but I'd bet hit tool actually develops better than those. Fielding I'd say is probably the most likely to improve, as we hear players are just not getting the reps in prep. What's more likely, is can you afford to be really bad in an any one area and still be anything more than a role player/spot starter? Of those that are still really good, I'd bet they are great at speed and fielding. Or, they have a great hit tool/power, but you have to put them at DH. I think a question is whether a guy with 50s across the board and 55 speed is more likely to blossom into a star than a guy with a 40 hit tool hitting enough to make his other skills worth it and be a star. Maybe if we draft Logan Warmouth we are definitely getting a Major League infielder. Or maybe we'd just be getting a Brett Lawrie slashline and are constantly hoping for a star in their place.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (turnin' two @ May 31, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Wish it weren't the case. I could put up some gaudy numbers in high school right now. I do think one of the reasons we don't have a lot of great high k comps is a lot of the higher k, athletic guys come out in high school.

We've talked about bringing winning groups up together. Really like how Kannapolis is playing. If we're gonna talk about intangibles, having both coastal carolina guys there with adolfo and booker and zevala seems to be creating a good atmosphere. Winston salem needs a lot of help. After the draft wouldn't mind seeing some move up but move as a group.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 31, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) All I'm asking is for someone to show me some comps of players that struck out that much in college yet turned into decent major leaguers. It's a really bad sign, no doubt. That said, if highly athletic, powerful, great hit tool players were not rare this wouldn't be an issue. I guess Aaron Judge would be highest K rate I've seen do well, and his was not as high as Kendalls. But a lot of the high k toolsy OFs you see still be pretty good in mlb were drafted out of HS.

Keith Law Mock Draft 2.0
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 31, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) In a world where an OF putting up .404/.505/.843 with an OPS of 1.348 and a 22% K rate in the same conference is considered a comp round pick. That's what happens when you are a college 1b with average speed, athleticism, and only one extraordinary year.

Kathy Griffin Does Something Very Stupid
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 31, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Had a bunch of people on Facebook telling me this was amazing art because it had people talking. If the conversation your art starts is "how s***ty is this art?", that's not amazing. Relative improvement for Kathy Griffin.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Adolfo still has a long way to go, but hitting his 15th double before June is promising. Yeah, aside from injuries, he wasn't really showing any of his tools prior to this year. That his power is finally developing is a big step. He should spend year in Kanny though.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) The comp I read was John Olerud. Is it just me or is that the most overused comp in mlb draft reports? Seems to be 4-5 Olerud comps every year, has there been a major league 1b like Olerud in last 10 years? Maybe Belt.
