QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) I disagree there. Using the executive to financial hurt/trample political enemies is an affront to our entire system of government. Sure, but to the point that it is hidden shows some acknowledgment in our democracy that it is wrong. You have a candidate who, I really don't know if he thinks it is wrong to ask a foreign hacker group to hack his political opponent. What do you think he does with that power as President?
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) Because the US would never try to influence a foreign election. What is fascinating to me is how well this plays for Trump. Clearly people are thumbing their noses at conventional thought. Perhaps looking at Britain we see that this isn't confined to out shores. We've been doing what is right for so long and look what it has gotten us. So it's opposite time. Because we have meddled in foreign elections mean we should let Russia meddle in ours?

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Fair enough. I also dont want to make it sound like I think Trump wouldnt try this s***, Im sure he would. I just think its very one sided to just make it sound like Trump is the only candidate in this election who is capable of doing something like that. It might never be able to be completely proven but the women who made accusations getting audited right after is pretty damning imo and is fair game in this election. No, certainly those in power are all capable of it. I think my point is that Trump has shown himself to be especially vindictive, both from his pre-political life (constant frivelous lawsuits against anyone who writes something he doesn't like just to hurt them financially), to his post-convention hit pieces on Kasich/Cruz, to now this. Clinton is certainly capable of this, but the fact is the Federal criminal and regulatory wings have been used vindictively in the past, and to an astonishing degree under a president Nixon who showed signs of being vindictive prior to presidency. I don't think we disagree that Nixon was far more wide-reaching than any other. So...yes, it is terrifying that Trump, with all of these signals could get access to groups that could abuse their power.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) Absent a smoking gun document like an email from the WH to the IRS saying "go f*** with these guys," you're never going to have actual proof. However, much like we do with racial discrimination, we can look at the disparate treatment of one group versus another and infer there was some bulls*** going on, which WAS the case in the IRS scandal. The problem is there are also reasons why groups suddenly in the spotlight with lots of funding may deserve more scrutiny. But, the reason why Nixon was brought up, was, again, "Absent a smoking gun document like an email from the WH to the IRS saying "go f*** with these guys,"" that is the Nixon tapes.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) That's still no guaranteed that Sale or Quintana will bring you anything more significant in return. Why wait when everything right now, today, is practically tailor made for us to receive a haul for Q or Sale. That perceived sellers market pre-2017 only widens the options for teams, who may not feel the need to unload top talent. Remember, before the season many have World Series hopes and play the "on paper" W-L game. While that may widen the number of suitors, everyone is assembling their rosters based on projections and talent rich teams like the Dodgers for instance are not going to assume Kershaw will be injured again. Boston and Texas will not have the urgency in the offseason because they'll make trades for lesser talent whose projections they're comfortable with. Hell, even now we're fortunate to have lesser pitchers like Rich Hill with lingering issues or else he's be snatched up I really believe we'll regret having not taken advantage of this moment in time. If they're not traded now, they won't be traded in the offseason. If someone cannot take advantage of a perfect opportunity now, then they're either too scared or too stubborn to do it and half a year won't change their mind. They'll be a bunch of excuses (as there always are) and ultimately we'll be right where we are right now. I agree.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Wall Street Journal better? I responded to you in earnest. Fact is almost every presidential admin after Nixon has been accused of this (not surprising). But, there is no actual link to the Clintons and that. There was no link from Obama to the IRS. And there was no link from the Bush's to the IRS. So basically, whomever are the outside groups every time, if you audit them, it will be a "did the administration order an IRS audit?"

I like both Profar and Mazarra, I just don't see a team trading them when trying to make playoffs.

Truly can't believe criminal negligence or manslaughter could again not be proven. Justice is never done. But hey, baltimore, you get to pay millions instead! Punish the citizenry, protect the perpetrators.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) I think anyone who tries to rank one of these two above or below the other in honesty and character looks foolish. These two are cut from the same cloth. All you can look at are the positions and argue those. But to compare one against the other on any character scale is just scary. I think you are insane, but even if you weren't, then openly calling on foreign governments to dig up dirt on your rivals falls into both policy and character. But yes, all that hard work of making up fake scandal after fake scandal against the Clintons in the 90s is really paying off, it can get Donald Trump elected. Great sowing of seeds, republicans. At least he may get you a tax cut.

This year has the benefit of 3-4 teams that have graduated a lot of successful talent that has a group of top prospects behind them. Sale?Q are obviously going to be targeted by a great team already, one that puts them over top. The other top farm systems are relying on those guys to get them over the top. WE don't know what next year looks like.
-
Yes that was accused of them, also accused of W. Also accused of Obama. There was no ties though as there were with Nixon tapes.
-
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) Problem is this...the price is so high for Sale (reasonably though) that whoever trades all their farm talent for him will become the next...White Sox. The reason Boston is a match is they graduated a bunch of talent already into their farm and have a strong offensive core. Same with LA. There's a reason nobody is mentioning Seager.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) It's great to see Call doing well, but I think some of you are assigning WAY too much value to a month's worth of stats, mostly in rookie ball, for a college draftee. Let's put it in perspective. Call was seen as a rounds 6-10 guy by some pundits, and a reach generally in the 3rd. He's got three years of college exposure. He should have raked in Great Falls, and did. It's a good thing, but no way should he even be in the discussion for Top 5 in the Sox system at this point. I think it's just rarely do we see OBP mastery like this even early. Every game its like he has 2 BB.

Ugh now I have lids pushing adds to me for this hat on every site.

I really hope that's a smaller sidebar to requresting a hack of your political rival. Do we honestly think Trump as president wouldn't use IRS against rivals the way that Nixon did? FBI surveillance?

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2016/...ensive-barrage/ Recap posted. Big day for the Intimidators bats! Small typo toward end: Aaron McRee will get the start and opposes Colorado's 1st round pick Riley Pint on Wendesday.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) I dont think it's that scary. You have your core of those guys, plus you will be adding atleast Collins, Engel, Trey M, and maybe Jake Peter and you should have enough flexibility to add in FA and trade for other pieces. Don't worry guys, we have the catcher we just drafted and a bunch of unranked prospects. Should be the offensive onslaught we were waiting for.
-
So Trump just in a press conference asked russia to hack and release the rest of Clinton's emails. He asked a foreign government to hack his political rival. Would love for Paul Ryan and McConnell to tell us how they feel about that and how they think this man should be president.
-
Not a good logo, but at least the arrow isn't penetrating anything. Honestly like just simple font with blue/white stark contrast with CLINTON or HILLARY or something like that. Adding graphics is almost always too much. I dind't like the O with the flag under either.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) I think Sanchez is a quality everyday player. Not a star, but a guy like Joey Cora who plays a really good second base and can get on base. I am not sold that Collins will stick as a catcher, if he hits the way most of us think he will, they are not going to be patient enough to wait on his defense to come around. No, none of them are sure things, but they are what we have. Thats why making a deal shipping out Sale could really help the franchise fill in these potential gaps. The Sox need to work on stacking the farm system so they can start growing the pipeline like Boston, Texas, and the Cubs have done. I agree with what you posted. The reason I mention Sanchez is one we haven't shown the patience to develop him but two, I'd like to have a team where Carlos is the worst player on it. I don't want it where we rely on him to have a career year. He is going to be someone you constantly expect to replace.
-
I'd like sox, now that we have time, to bundle talent together and advance them as their teams win, similar to the cards/twins have done previously. I don't know if it works, but we haven't seemed to try it.

It's dope if like me you struggle to find a tropical hat to match with your hawaiian shirt and flower board shorts.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Collins, Engel, Michalzewski, and Sanchez should all be able to fill in holes by then. Catcher is the biggest concern right now with none under contract for next year and nothing in the minors that is going to be ready to contribute. Collins, Engel, Michalzewski, and Sanchez None of these are sure things, Engel will be a thrill if he makes it to the big leagues as a starter, let alone impact starter we would not look for improvement on. Sanchez is maybe a backup. Trey is still so young and far to count on for 2018, and Collins we are hoping to be a catcher. If that is your hope it just proves we really really need to change directions. That group there is likely putting us at bottom 5 as a core.
-
I think what I'm saying is getting 2 top 10 prospects plus a flexible package outside that is a home run. Few times can you get an ace, few times can you get two top ten offensive prospects when you are position player starved. If we really can't get both in a deal, then I'm out. But I don't see us getting any of their ML talent, I wouldn't if I was them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Or you can not get your asking price met, and you have one of the best lefties in baseball until the beginning of the next decade for super cheap. That was in the post. I don't see any possible way with our payroll where it is, farm where it is to get enough depth and offensive impact talent to get us to a top 3 team in the AL. I don't want to trade both Sale AND Quintana, but I've hit the point where having an ace really isn't that exciting on a team that continues to waste all of it's resources for a +4 win effect every year. At that pace we may get to the one game playoffsSale's last year. But that's in a down year. We need more talent and spinning your best assets is the only way I can see out of this. As I've said before, I'm 100% confident trading Quintana or Sale gets us to the playoffs faster than staying the course unless we suddenly have 100 million added to our annual budgets.
