    Music and more Music

QUOTE (shipps @ May 24, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) I have listened to listened to a Moon Shaped Pool about 10 times through. I know that Radiohead is one of those bands that it takes a while to hear all the complexities of their music to really appreciate it. I get them. I just have not yet understood all the love this album is getting. I want to love it but I just dont. There are a few good songs. Full Stop is the best song on the album but all the rest is so damn slow and boring. I wait for the part in each song when they start jamming and he cuts you with his voice but it really never comes. Except for in Full Stop. Dont get me wrong, his voice is beautiful but I want more from them. In Rainbows definitely delivered more of what I need from Radiohead. Actually I think I may be confusing Hail to the Thief with In Rainbows. I have to check that. Eh, I wouldn't really worry about it. I tried to listen to it once and stopped. I used to listen to Radiohead every day, loved every bit of news about them. One - this album dropped before SUMMER, who the hell wants to listen to this on their deck. Two, it's such a one note album. Also, this is now like the 4th album that is driven by bsides from 20 years ago. In Rainbows was the last surprise I got from Radiohead, and i'll cherish that. I couldn't believe it was as good as it was. And I go back and think " I wonder if radiohead was ever that good", but then I listen to the opening of no surprises, or let down, or whatever, even the worst songs from amnesiac, and I can live in that world. But moon shaped pool, and the king of limbs, and there is no world there. It sucks but the amount of great material they put out is incredible, and it's hard to stay interesting for so long.
  2. I agree on death penalty. This is so much more worth that than boosters paying money.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) The prop 8 idiots in California tried a similar argument because the judge in their case was gay. Only straight white men have the power of impartiality! That argument literally for laughed out of court though, and that's part of the reason I don't think trumps judge is going to suffer any adverse consequences from being the target of trumps explicit racism. Actually that was what I was thinking, straight white and old. All else are biased.
  4. Kinda want to just trade for trayce.
  5. If we really do develop Delmonico to a major leaguer I think that is a good sign that our hitter development has started to turn a corner. No major talents yet but I also don't feel like we've given them much to work with there beside Hawkins/Barnum. And after what happened with Trayce, not sure I'd write off Hawkins yet.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 05:30 AM) I don't think being a racist piece of garbage creates an actual "conflict of interest" This was really upsetting to me. This is so blatant and horrible. This isn't the first time that it has been thrown out that essentially the only impartial judges can be old white men, but from a presidential candidate it's ridiculous. It's pretty scary. All of this is. But, it is worth remembering that BUsh fired a bunch us attorneys for failing to prosecute fluffed cases of voter fraud against ACORN. But at least they tried to be discreet! This is a man openly telling us he will not obey the institutional norms that have led this country. It's terrifying.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) Bmags voted for him, I hold him personally responsible. That's true. I have to say I'm surprised at how disjointed the democrats still are. And honestly am a bit surprised at how difficult it was for them even to push that budget through. The madigan power mold does need to get broken up. He isn't holding the coalition together nearly enough (mainly because it's not an ideological coalition). That said, I knew he wasn't going to be Scott Walker in the state and is not, he doesn't have the power to be. But I still think in the long run we are better off than if Quinn had gotten elected.
  8. That panther oline was pretty bad at pass protection until last year (the broncos were unreal but in general they looked pretty good). He's just nice insurance. Guessing Jake Long looks cooked.

    Soxtalk Book Club

I put the schedule in the first post. Let's start small and see how we do. Pretty sure we could read this book in a week though. Started first 2 chapters last night. This obviously isn't game of thrones, but I think it will be fun to talk about just because it looks like a lot of fun.
  10. Eh, it's fine. The sliding is interesting sometimes. Prefer US Open/Aussie Open, wimbledon second.
  11. I'm not shocked by that. He'll probably get paid an insane ton for his next one.
  12. this piece on Europes immigration crisis is excellent. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/...ave-itself.html
  13. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Dude, you know damn well that's false. BS supporters will vote for her when push comes to shove. Anything this early is simply protest. I'm just explaining the polls showing bernie's better tracking v. trump.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) Haha, isn't the media so stupid? Haha, Donald giving it to em again, telling em something and then telling em another and he's really sticking it to em!
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Baseball reference tells it a bit differently. We have attempted 17 Sac bunts which is 18th in all of baseball. Realistically the NL is hard to count because of the pitcher hitting, which is why I only looked at the AL in my numbers. This season only we are 3rd in the AL behind Anaheim (20) and Minnesota (18), and tied with Houston. KC is right behind us at 16. Not sure if this link will work, but here is the run. http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-ind...amp;submitter=1 Mine was from baseballreference, no idea where the discrepancy is. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL/2016.shtml Sort by SH in traditional batting.
  16. In 2016, White Sox are 3rd in major leagues with 10 sacrifice bunts. In 2015 we were slightly above average in AL with 30. He has been increasing in usage as a manager. I think he should stop that.
  17. I've seen like none of roland garros after the first day. Kind of hoping for Tsonga to get to the final.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be Vice President. Underrated fact. Also, Romney didn't run as a moderate. Also underrated.
  19. Let my Corey Ray dream live as long as it can.
  20. Really enjoyed this latest post from Conor Sen's blog. It's going to be interesting times ahead: http://csen.tumblr.com/
