QUOTE (Tex @ May 23, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) The question is who should solve the housing issues, government or private business? Currently the restrictions on building are a government issue, a local government issue. Federally they have limited power to put pressure on cities, but states can have more sway. There are plenty of builders willing to build right now, when we have ample housing and still see high cost entry issues, then you can move on to step two of solving that. BUt adding rent control when there is a capacity issue doesn't solve much.

It's hard to dig my feet in too much having not seen much of him at all, but a raw player able to overcome lack of reps with super athleticism and bat speed seems promising and exciting. I'd prefer he have a great K/BB ratio, but he was a second half of the first round pick, you take more raw skills there.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 23, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) I believe for a moral argument to work it would have to be tied to the economy and security. These are two key obligations we should expect from our government. Well, hence the article that economic growth is being increasingly centralized in major metro hubs.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-...0522-story.html When I read stuff like this, it just reaffirms my belief that states have a moral obligation to the country to force cities (and surrounding metro areas) to build a lot more housing. If the evolution is to highly technical jobs and the service economies supporting it, we cannot have a barrier to entry of expensive housing to move there. San Francisco it is estimated is 200k housing units in the red. I'm sure washington is at least 50k. Chicago has approved a couple of good housing developments to help keep it closer, but the rapidly increasing neighborhoods are already facing NIMBY/anti-gentrification pressures.

With Brienne headed to riverrun, there's chatter lady stoneheart may still make an appearance. -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 23, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) The #3 pick isn't worth a 6'10 center who can't protect the rim or rebound? I still think he can turn into an Al Jefferson career which...made Jefferson rich at least.
-
Would be surprised if Celtics took that trade. I figured they'd only trade away the #3 pick potential for a more higher floor star.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 23, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) The first men started chopping down weirwoods so the CotF decided to fight them. Not surprisingly, men were a lot stronger and were winning the war. CotF apparently thought they needed to use blood magic to counter, my guess is that they never really had control over the Night's King and quickly realized they made a mistake. Still interested to see how the wall and everything was built. Blood magic essentially, some sort of spell or something on the obsidian dagger. Explains why they are susceptible to obsidian. Wait is nights watch synonymous with white walkers too? -

I'm confused how the children created the nights watch. What did I miss there? Edit: never mind forgot the COTF helped build the wall. -
I didn't see a pitch of this game but glad they won. Went yesterday with all my nieces and nephews and had a blast.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) This actually bothered me last night as well. I'm not someone that harps on the media too much especially the whole "THE MEDIA LOVES THE CUBS SO MUCH" group but there was just no reason to ask Sale some of these questions last night. Unfortunately someone on my twitter timeline retweeted a Levine quote, so I checked out his account and everything from his Sox post game wrap up was the Sale-Arrieta stuff and how the Sale vs. Cubs game which is 2 months away is going to be fantastic. Just dumb. In Reality, Arrieta should be asked about Quintana after every good game.
-
Totally agree. Two years ago as Abreu was tearing up the league his first year, he basically could not be acknowledged by our media without including Anthony Rizzo in the discussion. What bothers me is Jake Arrieta is allowed to exist as great without being compared to Sale. but Sale apparently must be only understood in how he rates to a cubs pitcher.

The purpose of this thread is to vote Eaton for the All Star game. This board is surprisingly really good at getting the fan vote into the game. Let's avoid that stress and vote now. https://securea.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2016/ballot.jsp Does he deserve the all-star game? Prolly! Does it really matter? I unno. Vote vote vote vote vote.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 20, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) I don't mind it. Putting the best defense possible behind Q against the slap hitting contact oriented Royals isn't a bad idea. RV has showed me more tactical smarts this year then I think the previous four combined. Still pissed about putting on that bunt sign the other week and a few other questionable moves, but at least occasionally he's doing smart stuff. Yeah. Bunting has been the one thing that ills me especially where we've had a few times where we've picked up the bunt and then got a base hit. I really feel like considering our base running it's better to accept that bunting is not dangerous except by eaton. -
I think he'll obviously be up in September but I don't consider him a part of 2016 plans. Perhaps he comes up and is a tremendous pinch runner and somehow makes his way up to our playoff roster though

I feel duped by Royals fans. When I went to school there, the Royals fans seemed normal compared to the awful cardinals fans. It appears they were just beaten down, and as soon as they tasted winning they display the same tendencies. Edit: I didn't actually read caulfields post before my edit. -
Exciting that he actually talked at trump u at some point.

I feel like Tom Hiddleston is basically auditioning for it now with his recent roles.

You guys have way too strong opinions about a job that is meaningless and almost certain to fail. These people talk over essentially dead time for 3 hours almost every day for 5 months. He'll get better. I guarantee it. I still like him onw.
-
Fair enough. I know people are busy though, and don't want anyone to feel like they need to drop out if they fall behind. Realistically, you could look up right now the stats of that team, so, we aren't talking about game of thrones here.

Hey I'm going to try something: http://www.amazon.com/Only-Rule-Has-Work-E...t/dp/1627795642 This book looks great and is baseball related. Ben Lindbergh caught my attention at Grantland writing on baseball. Here is the concept: This thread will feature discussion on the book, broken into sections. Buy the book by June 1st. When we start, I'll post ideal sections to accomplish, but obviously there's no "plot" so there shouldn't be spoilers or worries of falling too far behind. I'll post questions in here based off what we read. We'll talk about it. (I'll talk about it) That's it. Let me know if you plan on joining just so I can know how embarrassed I'll be if I keep bumping this and discuss it independently like when I live-blogged the Project Runway finale on soxtalk. +++++++++++++++++++++ Let's start with this schedule: Week 1 Chapters 1-4 (chapter one is very short. Let's see how we do Week 2 June 11- 17 Chapters 5-10 Week 3 June 18 - June 26 Chapters 11-15
