  1. Us thinking Rick Hahn is playing poker here is like watching a dead possum thinking they'll wake up any second.
  2. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:16 AM) They traded away 1 minor leaguer worth anything.. they are much better now than they were last year and it's not like Frazier and Lawrie are locks to leave once they can hit the FA market. We have gotten guys like Eaton, Sale & Q on deals so the 5 very forgettable minor leaguers they have traded off aren't going to haunt us IMO. Plus, there are a lot of free agents on the board and quite a bit of time before the season starts and guess what: if we tank and Frazier has 25 bombs by the all star break and Lawrie is hitting well and fielding 2b decently, we are going to be getting a helluva lot more back for those guys than we spent. Just like with Samardjiza!
  3. Ifit was so important to win now with this core you finish the the win now.
  4. Rationalize all you want. The sox accelerated their rebuild, traded away 5 minor leaguers, and still *maybe* will be .500. They had two ways to go this offseason, they chose neither. The lack of strategy in this front office is depressingly average.
  5. Quick poll: If you had the chance, would you rather have traded Q for Shelby millers same package and done nothing else, or have our current offseason with zero big 3 OF additions
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) With what resources? They'd already be way over the budget for 2016 with nothing left in the farm outside the big 3. Why would they be way over? They are clearing $30 mil
  7. Signs this week. Signing will be large.
  8. I bet he gets a deal remarkably close to what he's asking.

  10. They must have had fun paying Albert belle for years
  11. The establishment on left would have no issue with Sanders. That they are not opening a bunch of lanes for a Sanders now is mostly due to his years of self identified independence, and honestly a legit feeling that they owe this one to the clintons after 08. I'm obviously not the biggest sanders voter, but it's because his dumb hang up marketing of himself as a dem socialist obscures that he isn't that left, not that he actually is a socialist. Not sure what it is establishment would even be scared of with lack of congress /state power he'd inherit. Hated the DLC in the end, but they are needed to return some of the losses. Fire DWS.
  12. That tweet reeks of Orioles justifying overspend on Davis
  13. Great news out of Iran that four dual citizens released including Wapo reporter.
  14. At this point, I'd be surprised if Upron does not sign with Texas in next few days.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) They offered 7/154 months ago. The negotiations probably cost him money if he invested it from the original contract. He went back to the Orioles and said give me 1 million more just so I can say that after months of negotiations I got him a better deal. You don't get a lump sum and it's unlikely he makes 7 million in investments in four months when the global economy is spinning from oil. Boras did a tremendous job here. Absent the Orioles, what was Davis market? I wouldn't have guessed more than 20 mill aav
  16. If Jim Miller pronounces it one way, do the opposite.
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Yeah all of those were from vintage Gasol. He's just a turnover machine now. So the dozen of Pau to Jimmy alley-oops are just an example of his turnover machine-ness

Love that you guys are taking my theory I wrote seriously. I should tweet out some hot MLB gos next.
  19. Does anyone else keep calling him benitendi? I can't stop doing it.
  20. Hey guys would you rather sign Avi Garcia for 2.1 this year or Julio Franco for his age 60 season I think I'd rather sign Garcia thoguhts?
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) I was waiting for the punchline as well but alas gregged.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) I want to go to a traditional college stadium next year. I was thinking LSU, Penn St, Ohio St, Alabama, Auburn, or Ole Miss. What are the best ones you all have been to? Which do you recommend? Note: I've already done USC, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee and Michigan. Granted, I have no idea what's going on with Kyle Field, but I would love to see a game at Texas A&M
  23. QUOTE (SnB @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 12:14 PM) I'll take it any day over the 2014 "don't go outside for 3 months" winter. Seriously. Any winter where after a few days of condensation freezing the sidewalks can melt is fine with me. That winter walking around took forever, as months of compacted ice was all you were walking on.

Not sure if I'm giving credit to the wrong guy (i.e. not sure if Abrams is attached) but I think the biggest strength of Abrams is a keen understanding of the excitement of cinema/movies as spectacle. His movies to me haven't held up well the farther you are removed from that manipulation spectacle of release, but it's nice to have someone aware of movies in culture.
  25. I like that it seems like he's coachable.
