  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) This contract is a bad contract the minute he signs it. You can either spend money there or on scouting and draft/international players with value. The fact Avasail Garcia is terrible at baseball is what is killing the White Sox. This as well as a neglect of prospect resources is where the White Sox have failed miserably over the recent years. A replacement level RF is what they need. They struck out on Davidson and Avi, and you are seeing the price you pay when you don't have a farm that can cover mistakes. If we have starters in RF/3b, this is a very different offseason.
  2. I just hope we don't sign Fowler.
  3. One thing on Hawaiian islands, I assume you'll rent a car. The islands aren't big and you can go around to the different parts within a few hours (farthest). Kuaia was my favorite, less developed than Maui is now. If you want to just chill and hike, I don't think you'll fail with any of them.
  4. I don't understand how grown-ups oversleep for things. I wake up every day at the same time even when I don't want to.
  5. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Advice on Brazil's visa process? I'll be doing that in the next couple of weeks (traveling in March). Definitely get to a consulate in person. It's pretty expensive, a shame you aren't going in June when its free. What cities you going to?
  6. The Nats are the new yankees though in that they have not met a high priced FA they don't like.
  7. 42 million for next 2 years of Werth, who is providing a .685 OPS.

So, it looks like we'll be very improved for 80 games from last year. HOpefully whomever we get in RF is actually a marked improvement (i.e. no fowler please). The benefit to our pitching staff is worth more than the offense.
  9. OMG lol the nats are going to put him in CF? That is such a nat move. @JonHeyman Nats showed interest in Upton but at 3 years. With harper/werth, hard to see how J-Up fit at all. Nats consider everything
  10. QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I hate to rain on anyone's parade but, what will this board be like if the Sox don't sign Cespedes and aren't able to sign one or two of the second tier players? Well, frankly I think there have already been valleys where that was realized so there isn't much more to say. I was willing to support this offseason if they could really check all the boxes but they did not.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) Again, if the Nats work out a trade, who would go? Do they trade Revere? He plays CF and will be their leadoff hitter. Nats don't want Rendon leading off. Werth? Who wants that contract, and a declining aging player? I don't see a fit at all Sigh, if they want to trade Harper I guess we can take him from them.
  12. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) Rosenthal didn't say anyone was a frontrunner. Morosi basically retweeted Rosenthal. Nightengale said what he said, but he has also been parroting the 3 year limit thing and no one believes that. Not saying the Nats won't end up with Cespedes, but I don't see them as being a clear favorite necessarily. Momentum like this from national writers never bodes well.
  13. Like an all star game? Except they play good defense. Anyone that thinks the Warriors are bad for the game are still sour about the 3 point line and jumpshots. So, for the longest time, the problem with NBA was it was a selfish league and players were only out for their stats, now the most unselfish team in the league is dominating and they are bad for the league because ...no idea. Can't comprehend. They are incredibly exciting and wide open and the brand of basketball anyone would say they love to watch.
  14. I know Nats were in on Heyward, but really odd to me they are the big player after the Revere/other guy move.
  15. With the Warriors/Spurs/Hawks right now (hawks the lesser), I really have to just exit the conversatoin when someone claims they like college basketball because they the NBA is "just a bunch of one-on-one".
  16. Really doubt they are negotiating in person with the player. Plus, there are better hotels for a young millionaire.
  17. Okay, made the submission for a Visa successfully. Some tips - the form on the Chicago Chinese embassy site is WRONG, go to the national Chinese embassy site - As my wife and I were going together, we only printed one set of our flight/hotel info. They luckily had a copy machine there. We pick up on wednesday thouhg, and the embassy was very fast. Overall a pretty good experience, better than Brazil's.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Mully, Goff, Bernstein, and Laurence Holmes are the Sox fans at The Score. Producer Chris Tannehill is as well. The Cubs are probably the NL favorites right now and 670 is their new flagship. The White Sox haven't made the playoffs since 2008. Why should the discussion on the station be any different? I love the White Sox but they haven't exactly earned any air time. Even though it is tilted I do appreciate that they still give time. I hate how everything mentioned about the sox needs to have some sort of parallel point to the cubs (in a way they DO NOT when talking about the cubs - see only talking about abreu in frame of rizzo). But, I know I've posted this 3-4 times, the weirdest thing is the score ripping on eaton as if he's terrible.
  19. I put in some extra cash this week. Nothing I can't lose.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:27 AM) I think that'd be too obvious in a Grand Slam final. Djokovic came out the other day and explicitly said he was offered 200k to throw a match back in 2007. Not saying in a grand slam. Just of recent winners he screams out since he hasnt been insanely successful so more likely to take money.
  21. Well, considering the disruption it cause, you don't think it's fair to ask what it actually accomplishes?
  22. Case in point of a weakness of Garpax - Mirotic was likely much more valuable as a trade asset than a player. He's not good.
  23. Maybe, but that said I hate the argument that essentially says the bulls could never have done anything differently (what more could they have done for a FA, the other teams had better offers for a trade). While, fine, in 10 they lost out on the FAs fair and square when they set themselves up fine, but in 14 they tried to convince Melo to take half the money. That's not serious. Also, they are responsible for the talent/assets on roster. They have had a preference for older established vets on roster over younger, higher upside players (miami has whiteside, the bulls have kirk hinrich!). They traded 2 firsts for Doug McDermott. They missed out on Green for Teague. They are above average, and had tragic luck. The Warriors would not win a title if Steph Curry blows out his knee and Draymond green fights plantar fascitis. But comparable teams and situations (Spurs, Heat, Warriors, Rockets) have seen them draft, sign and trade much more effectively to get them over the hump. The Bulls sign a Boozer and Gasol. That said, nobody could have ever experienced the injuries bulls had and won a championship.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Seriously, lol. It's weird. When I moved to Chicago and told people that I came from Ohio, like 1 in 10 would immediately say, "OH! Do you know ?!" "No. Why?" "Oh that's my cousin's wife and she's from Ohio." Ok so there are roughly ten million people spread out over like 40,000 miles in the state of Ohio. What are the chance I would randomly know one? The Cuban player thing isn't QUITE as bad because they actually played on the same team -- but what are the chances that they are BFFs to the point that one would leave money on the table to reunite? It's way more likely that they're completely indifferent toward each other. While I understand this point, it is like when you study abroad or visit abroad and suddenly you are best friends with the other Americans/Irish/Australians there. You have a lot in common, are going through a similar experience, and speak the same language. There are few others that could understand you more than a fellow expat star cuban baseball player in bigs.
