  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) With these campaign finance rules? I mean, 2008.
  2. I guess I just don't understand the point of criticizing a player for injuries. And considering we've had 3 years of this board b****ing about it, having it reappear because of a sprained ankle that caused him to miss 2 games...just spare me.
  3. I still don't think Hillary is as unstoppable as those on this board claim. She is a DLC hawk. Is that really the climate in 2015?
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) It does, but a lot of guys don't get injured when that happens. Derrick Rose hasn't been healthy since the 2010 season. Why should I believe he is suddenly going to stay healthy this year? A lot of guys don't get minor sprains when they land on a foot and roll their ankle? And choose to sit out because it isn't 100% but could probably play? Again, if you guys can't handle him sitting out for minor sprains, don't also b**** about other players playing too much, or how we should rest noah more because of his knee. he played through ankle injuries through 2011 and everyone was like "oh sit him, sit him, why won't you sit him?"
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 06:11 PM) I didn't catch what happened to the other ankle. He had no contact when he blew out his ACL and missed an entire season. He had no contact when he tore his meniscus and missed 70 games. As is typical with knees.
  6. He landed on a foot. It happens.
  7. Good to know Bulls fans are going to irrationally oscillate between complaining of players playing on injuries and complaining about players sitting out because of injury.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) I'm mostly wondering what Rauner's going to do about the $4B crater not extending the income tax increase will leave in the budget. You're right, at least we're not like WI, MI, FL or god forbid Kansas Not sure, but it was unbelievable to me that Quinn couldn't find a winning coalition for any pension reform.
  9. Yeah. Well. A purge needed to happen. I would not have voted R in other circumstances, but this isn't wisconsin. Dems have large majority in house and senate. And with a large majority in house, senate and Governor position...they created 3 separate groups that sniped at each other and did nothing. They didn't even create an exchange. In 4 years I'll vote him out, but the dems need someone to rally against, because right now it's each other, and nothing is happening, and there is no excuse for that.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Who did they overwork? Snell got minutes. Butler played well. Tons of guys got minutes and productivity. Only spot we didn't do a lot of rotating was in the post-position and that was largely due to Noah being out it meant more minutes to go between Taj / Nik / Gasol. We missed a heck of a lot of cookies and easy jumpers and defense really didn't ratchet down till late but man I love the depth of this team. Dougie played nice in the 1st half but Nik really impressed as well. Did a nice job creating from near 3. He is pretty quick for a guy his size and a much better passer then advertised. Not only was Noah out, but Taj got 3 fouls right away.
  11. I voted for Rauner, Madigan (who is actually my favorite Illinois politician, regardless of experience, she is maybe the best AG in the country IMO), White, Simon, Cross, Gutierrez, did not vote judges/water commission. Others not said were non competitive.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Where I think losing the Senate really has the chance to hurt Democrats is with judicial appointments. They finally broke the log jam by getting rid of the filibuster for non-SC appointments, but it'll be very hard for Obama to get anyone else confirmed come January. And if one of the liberals on the SC steps down, who knows what'll happen. Yes, but at the very least there will be a D Prez picking it, heavy media pressure to conform to baseline, etc. That's why 2012 was so important, was basically all for defense.
  13. Yea, I'm gonna call b.s. on that.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) Thibs' system was designed around Rose, so microwave scoring PGs seem to flourish. Part is this, the other part is it's just not hard to find undersized scoring guards. They are everywhere, they are cheap, they just can't play starter minutes because of defense. Thibs is just better than most at covering this up.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) Ehh. If Jim Webb or Elizabeth Warren runs, they will both have a better shot than Hilary in my opinion. Jim Webb would absolutely destroy her. Elizabeth Warren would not win, Webb will not run. Clinton I'm sure will run on war all the time and it seems like that's the appetite now. Indescriminately kill to show you are doing things! Strength, strength. She'll also lose.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) So has anyone who ran as a Dem but ran away from Obama/Obamacare actually won a race? It's never seemed like a winning strategy to me and didn't appear to work last night, either. Dems timidity to boast laws they've passed, and timidity with immigration, has sank them when they recommended that caution would help. Oh well, midterms ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Will be hilarious when Dems will also be too timid to remotely deploy any of the blocking tactics GOP deployed because it may hurt their weakest seats which they'll lose anyway.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 05:05 AM) What is the point of overworking some of these guys in the 4th game against the damn Magic. Did you want McDermott to play center? Who was overworked?
  18. Yes how dare Thibs not play McDermott the entire 2 nd half in the fourth game Thibs has had him. What a stubborn asshole! He does this every time these four games!
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) I wonder if Jake or anyone else knows of any studies that have looked into the effects of political spending/advertising at local-level races. What was the timing of your school board election? If it fell on a Presidential year or even a mid-term congressional year (like today), I could see how just having your name plastered everywhere could pick up some votes from people who are there to vote for President/Senate/Governor but don't know anything about the races down-ticket. On the other hand, if it's like a lot of municipal elections in Illinois and it's on an off-year and off-season (e.g. April 2013 for our mayoral elections, February 2015 for Chicago's), it'd be more about getting a small but dedicated electorate to turn out in your favor, and I'm not sure how much flyers and yard signs would really matter there. It would be hard, but when I covered it it seemed like money was just a major signal of organization. She had become the preferred candidate of teachers, and made headway with other local organizations. So more people that would vote knew her name, basically.
  20. I remember covering the school board election in columbia mo. 10 candidates, one dropped 30k, she won. I'd be happy to join the local school board/city council when I'm old and yelling at young college athletes for not living up to be a Missouri Man like in my day.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) That's the main take-away on what I was talking about earlier. There have to be any number of Illinois Republicans who would be better candidates, but it seems no one wants to run. Maybe YOU should. Locals are key, and yeah, most people don't care. That too. Judges? Water reclamation district? LOL I find myself reasonably informed. I have no idea what qualifies someone for those jobs, beside law degree and experience for a judge.
  22. I still maintain that 3/4s of the races I voted on today should not even be democratically accountable.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) A supposed Cuban exile, though no one is positive he has left the island. Thanks, I must have missed the fandom there. I was thinking the Miami pitcher, and was like, there is no way that guy has been in league 6 years.
  24. Dumb question, I admit: When people are talking about signing jose fernandez, who are they referring to?
  25. Noah is ill and may not play tonight. Clearly Thibs playing him 35 minutes on Friday lowered his immune system to the point he contracted a flu virus.
