2014-2015 NCAA football thread
bmags replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) heard on the radio that in the last 10 years, NCAA teams who held their opponent to under 120 yards is 147-2. The second loss was Florida. I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but yeah, both losses in that were by Florida. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) McCown got very lucky with that ratio. He threw a lot of dropped picks and had quite a few bail out Jeffrey catches. Frankly Jeffrey should get more opportunities for bail out catches, that's what makes him special.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) Didn't he also not have any through the 1st four games? If so, that's even worse. Sexy Rexy could probably do better in this offense. He definitely had a terrible INT in the bills game that imo lost us the game. I don't think Rex would be better, but I'm hardpressed to tell you that we would have a worse record with Kyle Orton, and have 10 million more to work with.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) the saving will be well worth burying him in the minors. I hated it when Bowman gave him that contract. I guess without daddy looking over his shoulder this one time hurt. I think the reality is that it was probably about keeping Q happy. There two eras for Bowman, he worked masterfully when in intense cap restrictions. But that wears you down and probably wore the team down. The second era of success (cup) they were in much better shape. They should have remained disciplined, but Q has a say too, and I'm guessing there was an organizational push to reward the players who contributed (falsely, this time). It's tough to have so much turnover. We know that Q likes to rest his players. For him to do that, he needs players he trusts will put in the work without him dogging them. This likely played a factor. It doesn't mean it's not a mistake, but these are hard decisions, even if it's obvious from a production standpoint.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) He's been pretty good. Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the top 4 next year and replaces Oduya. I think next year the D pairing will look something like this: Keith-Seabrook Hammer-TVR Vet FA-Johns Rundblad I like how confident he is that he will not make a mistake (we'll see in bigger games), but Leddy just seemed so unsure that he could make any outlet passes in the playoffs. He seems fairly conservative but is nailing all the small things that would seem to gain Q's trust in him. Big win for Hawks if he truly hits as a potential 2nd line and clendening/johns don't slip.

How has everyone liked van Riemsdyk?

I would hate to root for the franchise that drafts him. -
Even that makes me hate him. Shut up jerk, you are supposed to be resting on your laurels so that Hinrich can grind away with some dribble step backs in your face
-
I'll trust PFF after thinking it was dumb for calling Mills horrible, when as soon as we stopped helping him in protection in favor of Bushrod he promptly is a sieve.

Jose Abreu named Sporting News Rookie of the Year

Maybe Abreu voted for Semein? -
New 3rd line for a day or two is Bickell-Richards-Saad, with Versteeg replacing Saad on 2. Second line is pretttttay small, so if this doesn't turn up Bickells/Richards production I'd prefer it switch quickly.

Funny, but one of the things that turned Alex Smith's career around was Harbaugh came in and eliminated sight adjustments. The opportunity to take advantage of an alignment at the line of scrimmage was removed, along with the possibility of a miscommunication and turnover.

Missouri won by 28 points on Saturday with less than 150 yards of total offense. Maty Mauk is like watching bad jay cutler every saturday, it's been really brutal. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) On a sidenote, was it just me, or did it look like we weren't prepared to play on either side of the ball. Between Trestman's clock management and the fact that he kept Tucker and Decamillis around...if this offense keeps playing this poorly, we might be looking at a new coach next year. If we are scoring this few points per game without legitimate excuses as to why, I think it is time to consider the fact that the league was right about Trestman and he isn't head coaching material. I'd also say the same thing about Jay. They better get this offense rolling. I agree. Trestman's offense is just way too complicated. There are way too many sight adjustments to turn a 5 yard play into a 7 yard play and instead it ends up being an INT. I was thinking yesterday, if Mike Martz or Ron Turner had this offensive talent, would they be better or worse than this? I honestly am not sure it would be worse. Jay would get sacked a lot more under Martz, but he also had an offense with Knox and Hester as WR1 and WR2, and Webb as starting LT look pretty damn good through 10 games before Jay broke his finger. I'm just very frustrated at this point. That was an excellent coaching class that we quite possibly swung and missed on. I feel like the bears just drafted Darko.

Why on earth do the Bulls have two back to backs in preseason?

QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 01:38 AM) 6 minutes left in 3Q and Missouri has outgained Florida 97-89 in yards but leads 35-0 lol They actually out gained us through four. -
Well frankly we are due for striking gold on a flyer free agent because Hahn has been terrible on those so far. I hope it's just bad luck.
-
Bears don't have luxury of trading picks for a 3rd receiver.
-
He would be a good fit for the jets run offense.
-
You just got to get to the playoffs. To do that we need to replace our below average players with above average players at at least 4 positions.
-
So much going on in that video, so great.
-
Yeah yeah, if you walk through the world like that you'll become Greg.

Maybe we can build a bunch of lockheed martin factories in WVA/KY http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/17/lockhee...fusion-chamber/
