  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) But injuries wouldn't have been an issue with Bird vs. Greenwood. As the college player of the year in 1979 Bird averaged 28.6 points, 14.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game. Even though Greenwood probably could beat him in a 40 yd. dash, and probably jump higher than him, Bird was clearly the better player. Thanks, this was my point. I don't think you can use Bowie as an example of why Bird would not have been selected. Bird was Oden in this case, he just happened to work out.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) You cant definitely say they would have drafted them. Someone passed on MJ with Bowie, someone passed on Durant for Oden. So while you can say "The Bulls could have had Bird", theres nothing to guarantee it. Not to mention: http://articles.latimes.com/1991-06-05/sports/sp-83_1_lakers Had the Lakers selected Larry, the Bulls would have gotten neither. So its pointless to speculate. While it's cute to act like Oden was such a bonehead pick now, that guy was clearly the best player in college and there was nothing in the NBA for big men at the time. He and Howard would have dominated if not for his legs.
  3. I'm gonna withdraw from this debate. There will be no clear winner on how good Mirotic is when our only scouting is on youtube vids and euro production arguments. And the idea that Larry Bird wouldn't be good in today's NBA.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) I know that's what they're relying on...but when he winds up teamed with a guy who is only an average PG because of the injuries and 2+ seasons off, if he even stays on the court, I can't fathom that team competing with the elite. Even with the way Noah is playing. You're 100% right though...that's the only thing which will happen. The Bulls will amnesty Boozer, replace him with Mirotic, and otherwise stand pat, staying beneath the luxury tax and hoping for the best. The funny thing is if Bulls never drafted Mirotic, tanked this year, drafted him with a top 5 pick, people would be freaking the hell out with excitement. Because of the way Mirotic has been stocked away I don't think people know how to value him, but by all accounts the guy is a lottery pick.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:57 AM) Nice to see Anthony Bennett playing a little better. Unlike guys like Kwame and Bargnani, I think there's legitimate talent there. I first read this as Anthony Davis and did not get the sarcasm. This makes more sense.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) I think Taj's putback dunk at the end of that game was one of the best I've ever seen. Every game except game 2 was entertaining. Especially Game 5 when Kurt Thomas was going off. I loved him that season.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) For all the talk about a gay player supposedly affecting locker room culture in the NFL, I could actually see it being an issue in MLB. That's simply because of all the players from Latin & South America. Most of these countries are way behind the US as far as gay rights go, and there seems to be a homophobic culture in some countries. It's just something that's part of the culture they were raised and as we have seen, it's not easy to change over night. There was a major leaguer recently who wrote a gay slur on his hat in Spanish, not thinking it would be a big deal. People from US really don't have much to talk down about gay rights in Latin/South America. Gay Marriage is legal in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico City. These are some of the most populous areas in the region. 3/4 are whole countries, not states like the US. How is this any different than NFL? Are they that much less accepting than Southern Baptists in NFL?
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) God no. Butler's gotten himself a bit overrated among the masses, but he's a lot better than Shump (and taller). That said, Thibs could get a lot out of Shump. I think Butler is also learning to play more minutes and with a chronic injury that likely will never be 100%. And before a Thibs joke comes in, that is the way many players have to deal with.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) The Sixers are at it again! This is actually terrifying. I thought I was free and in the clear. Now 3-24 the rest of the way seems unattainable. I'm not sure they will win another game? When do they play milwaukee next?!
  10. Browns really are just unreal right now. I kinda liked the Lombardi/Chudz/Turner group and thought they would do well. Then the Trich trade turned out to be really smart, Josh Gordon turned into a star and they seemed to just be a QB and some trash RB away. And so they decide to fire everyone, hire a coach before a new GM...sigh.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Alot of it will be the player comfort in the locker room. I've heard discussions about it and there is some worry. The worry is that it's like having a female in the locker room. A gay male will look at a man in sexual terms like a female would. How comfortable is someone changing and showering in that scenario. Some will be and some won't. It's currently the reason that reporteers aren't aloowed in locker rooms until a certain time. I shower in a gym with total strangers, some of which may be gay, and I pay them to go there and have that privilege. Edit: "them" being the gym, that read very peculiar I realized. This always happens, the group having nothing taken from them except allowing another group equal status acts like they are being forced change.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Westboro Ugh, don't even cover it. I started to forget they existed.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) And you have a nice protest coming your way as well. What is this referring to?
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) They were down 52-15 early in the 2nd. Reminded me of that Bulls-Twolves game in early 00s where Bulls were down 90-40 at halftime or something like that.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) Saw it live. Cringed the entire time. Considering the whole Grantland fiasco a few weeks ago I'm surprised ESPN's coverage has been so antiquated. And whoever thought it was important to have that segment...sigh.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Sounds like a Bears first round draft pick to me. It actually isn't a bad comparison, except I think Sam is stronger and has better moves arsenal (yes, he has better arsenal of moves than Shea's spinorama he employs at every second). And what I like most is that he never stops on a play. You can't teach that, that's how I knew Sheldon was going to be a player. Sam doesn't take plays off, and despite not always getting sacks he would get at least one good pressure in every game. He was the one about to destroy Manziel when suddenly manziel floated a 40 yard bomb right into his receivers arms.
  17. You know you had a bad game when I look at the final score the next day and saw you only lost by nearly 50 points: http://www.nba.com/games/20140209/PHILAC/g...nfo.html?ls=slt edit: Meant to say, "and am impressed to see you only lost by nearly 50 points"
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Also, Vandy's OT that he was going against is going to the NFL and was their best offensive lineman. The reason Sam is falling is because at the Senior Bowl he did not play well as a LB when that is what teams really wanted to see. But when he put his hand down and went straight ahead he was electric still. For those who want him to succeed, like me, I think best place would be Seattle, where late round picks suddenly, ahem, get way bigger and faster than everyone else.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 02:33 AM) Only "leak" I heard about Sam was that he ranted in his class for 20 minutes about how he couldn't feed his puppy due to not being paid. The general student population had 0 clue. Uh, really? I've heard that he was pretty open about this since. Like October and I don't even know anyone still in Columbia.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Except for the snowflake snafu, I actually thought it was a pretty cool opening ceremony. There was too much artsy fartsy stuff (they all suffer from that), but projecting pictures into the ice and having people walk/march in line with the projection was pretty cool. Agreed, and considering Russia's history with ballet and theatre at least the artsy fatty stuff fit better. The projection technology was awesome.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) That's so crazy, at such a young age in such good physical shape. Good that he should make a full recovery. My friend at 22 suffered a stroke, it was strange, he just started slurring his words and vomiting, and the furthest thing from your mind is stroke. It took him a while to get back to full strength.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) I've never particularly disliked Mike Brown, but I would be for firing him now too. That team direly needs leadership. My sense is that the problem is actually Kyrie Irving, to a great extent, but I can't fire him just yet...so I'll hire a coach and hope things can get right. To me the NBA is so strange with coaching. It seems like as soon as you get a coaching gig you are in that circle, and guaranteed to get more and more gigs. If Mike Brown was in the NFL, he would never see a HC gig again after LA and now Cleveland. But the NBA keeps hiring retread coaches that were just bad. Vinny Del Negro will find another gig somehow. Look at all the best coaches. They are either great at handling personalities, or incredible at x's and o's. What is Mike Brown? His calling card hasn't shown through in two teams now. Why hire him instead of an assistant getting their first shot? It's just bizarre.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) It seems to me that Cleveland is a team where the inmates are running the asylum. I think they should be better than this They should. And in the East, having Luol Deng as your second best player doesn't mean you are a bad team. Contrary to Bulls fans opinions of every single player on their team, Luol is actually good! They have more than enough to win, and it's the coach that gets the axe. Look at the bobcats, less talent, imo, but same squandering lack of identity. They finally get a coach who demands they play the way he wants and suddenly they are a playoff team with Al Jefferson as their #1.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) I think I'll just prefer to be pissed at the person who is a d*** about it to everyone. And your mom can be pissed at her doctor, but she can't sue them! That would make her greedy and ridiculous and cause our healthcare system to spiral out of control.
