Did they run xrays on Kessel's hand or did they just tape it right away?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) And that was a huge reason he was put on the team. Some incredible moves in that shootout. That Kovalchuk soft wrister...oh my. That was crazy.

Amazing that Oshie could come up with that variety with so much on the line. I thought it was foolish to put that much on him but he looked like he was having fun. (ugh why does he have to play for STL)

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Great hockey. Thought Kaner was going to score. Looking at the replay it looked like he had to keep his head down to make sure the puck didn't hop for a logn time. This ice looks pretty terrible at the moment.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 15, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Wasn't there a lot of texts that painted Martin in a bad light as well. I think incognito is a scumbag pos but I don't really feel much sympathy for Martin either. I think it's pretty clear that Martin was trying his best to be one of the boys and felt uncomfortable doing that, and even then wasn't accepted and kept being hazed.

LIVE Olympics THREAD. WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!
I love with all of this ice our forechecking has mostly involved trying to have one guy skate through four defenders with the rest of the team off behind them, unable to even chase down the puck if it's dumped in.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) This is the only way it happens. If Melo puts a gun to their head, what's better: Snell and a lot of picks, or nothing? The Charlotte Pick, Sacramento pick, Cleveland swap, and a few more Bulls picks could go a long way for a franchise that seemingly traded all of theirs. I mean, if you were saying the same trade except it was the Lakers proposing it everyone would be like...yeah sure. s*** just happens for them, I'd love the same. It seems like the Lakers offers are always "Hey, we'll take your superstar off your hands in a way that will make you terrible quickly. Good trade?" And the other line says yes.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) But injuries wouldn't have been an issue with Bird vs. Greenwood. As the college player of the year in 1979 Bird averaged 28.6 points, 14.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game. Even though Greenwood probably could beat him in a 40 yd. dash, and probably jump higher than him, Bird was clearly the better player. Thanks, this was my point. I don't think you can use Bowie as an example of why Bird would not have been selected. Bird was Oden in this case, he just happened to work out.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) You cant definitely say they would have drafted them. Someone passed on MJ with Bowie, someone passed on Durant for Oden. So while you can say "The Bulls could have had Bird", theres nothing to guarantee it. Not to mention: http://articles.latimes.com/1991-06-05/sports/sp-83_1_lakers Had the Lakers selected Larry, the Bulls would have gotten neither. So its pointless to speculate. While it's cute to act like Oden was such a bonehead pick now, that guy was clearly the best player in college and there was nothing in the NBA for big men at the time. He and Howard would have dominated if not for his legs.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
I'm gonna withdraw from this debate. There will be no clear winner on how good Mirotic is when our only scouting is on youtube vids and euro production arguments. And the idea that Larry Bird wouldn't be good in today's NBA.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) I know that's what they're relying on...but when he winds up teamed with a guy who is only an average PG because of the injuries and 2+ seasons off, if he even stays on the court, I can't fathom that team competing with the elite. Even with the way Noah is playing. You're 100% right though...that's the only thing which will happen. The Bulls will amnesty Boozer, replace him with Mirotic, and otherwise stand pat, staying beneath the luxury tax and hoping for the best. The funny thing is if Bulls never drafted Mirotic, tanked this year, drafted him with a top 5 pick, people would be freaking the hell out with excitement. Because of the way Mirotic has been stocked away I don't think people know how to value him, but by all accounts the guy is a lottery pick.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:57 AM) Nice to see Anthony Bennett playing a little better. Unlike guys like Kwame and Bargnani, I think there's legitimate talent there. I first read this as Anthony Davis and did not get the sarcasm. This makes more sense.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) I think Taj's putback dunk at the end of that game was one of the best I've ever seen. Every game except game 2 was entertaining. Especially Game 5 when Kurt Thomas was going off. I loved him that season.

White Sox could handle signing gay player-KW
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) For all the talk about a gay player supposedly affecting locker room culture in the NFL, I could actually see it being an issue in MLB. That's simply because of all the players from Latin & South America. Most of these countries are way behind the US as far as gay rights go, and there seems to be a homophobic culture in some countries. It's just something that's part of the culture they were raised and as we have seen, it's not easy to change over night. There was a major leaguer recently who wrote a gay slur on his hat in Spanish, not thinking it would be a big deal. People from US really don't have much to talk down about gay rights in Latin/South America. Gay Marriage is legal in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico City. These are some of the most populous areas in the region. 3/4 are whole countries, not states like the US. How is this any different than NFL? Are they that much less accepting than Southern Baptists in NFL?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) God no. Butler's gotten himself a bit overrated among the masses, but he's a lot better than Shump (and taller). That said, Thibs could get a lot out of Shump. I think Butler is also learning to play more minutes and with a chronic injury that likely will never be 100%. And before a Thibs joke comes in, that is the way many players have to deal with.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 05:34 AM) The Sixers are at it again! This is actually terrifying. I thought I was free and in the clear. Now 3-24 the rest of the way seems unattainable. I'm not sure they will win another game? When do they play milwaukee next?!

Browns really are just unreal right now. I kinda liked the Lombardi/Chudz/Turner group and thought they would do well. Then the Trich trade turned out to be really smart, Josh Gordon turned into a star and they seemed to just be a QB and some trash RB away. And so they decide to fire everyone, hire a coach before a new GM...sigh.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Alot of it will be the player comfort in the locker room. I've heard discussions about it and there is some worry. The worry is that it's like having a female in the locker room. A gay male will look at a man in sexual terms like a female would. How comfortable is someone changing and showering in that scenario. Some will be and some won't. It's currently the reason that reporteers aren't aloowed in locker rooms until a certain time. I shower in a gym with total strangers, some of which may be gay, and I pay them to go there and have that privilege. Edit: "them" being the gym, that read very peculiar I realized. This always happens, the group having nothing taken from them except allowing another group equal status acts like they are being forced change.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) Saw it live. Cringed the entire time. Considering the whole Grantland fiasco a few weeks ago I'm surprised ESPN's coverage has been so antiquated. And whoever thought it was important to have that segment...sigh.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Sounds like a Bears first round draft pick to me. It actually isn't a bad comparison, except I think Sam is stronger and has better moves arsenal (yes, he has better arsenal of moves than Shea's spinorama he employs at every second). And what I like most is that he never stops on a play. You can't teach that, that's how I knew Sheldon was going to be a player. Sam doesn't take plays off, and despite not always getting sacks he would get at least one good pressure in every game. He was the one about to destroy Manziel when suddenly manziel floated a 40 yard bomb right into his receivers arms.
