http://www.owldolatrous.com/?p=288&fwc...;fwcl=1&fwl I know posting a long-article in this forum is like not posting anything at all, but it's a big issue that requires deep thoughts. And I think he nailed it.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Just keep ignoring the fact that the people supposedly defending the notion of equal rights and equal acceptance are the same people that feel so much hate and animosity towards a specific group of people. At least I'm not going to write any laws to take away their basic rights.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Is because Apple has a huge marketing campaign. Microsoft is the only other company I can ever remember advertising their mp3 players on TV a lot. Possibly the Dell DJ, but when you are constantly seeing something advertised on TV, you are going to think about it first. Ask anyone you know, and almost all of them you ask will say Apple invented the mp3 player. They were never the first, they were just the loudest. Just because you are unaware of other companies that produce products doesn't mean a whole lot other than you aren't looking in to alternatives, and they don't advertise as much. Part of making a product successful is getting people to buy it. It also helped that it was a very good mp3 player. Those mp3 cd players were garbage. There are a million products that may be good but don't take off, and those companies have no one to blame but themselves. Apple was not a major player in the early 00s. The imac was kinda getting more popular. Ipod took off because it was a really good product. If you would have made a bet it 00 on who would make the next big music device, i would have probably bet sony.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) I get the argument here, it is just a flat out wrong assumption being made by the author. Look no further than the US. There are more women than men in the US. Would anyone argue that they have privilege in this country? That is just an awful basis for an argument. I concede the point.

Apple used as an anathema to drag and drop... hmmmmm

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) generally is very different than "always". Someone needs to get out more. In those cases, the minority is imposing it's will on the majority. Whereas in this case, the majority is imposing it's will on the minority. It's the christian coalition who have so vehemently pushed for absurd laws to keep gays a second-class citizen. What will they lose when this is done? They'll lose respect, but they'll have lost zero rights. They'll still be able to marry. Not quite syria.
-
Was everyone alright with us re-defining marriage as a consenting act where both parties must be at least 16 or older (in most states)?
-
That means they failed.
-
Indeed, some humans like monogamy, and as gay people are humans, we should allow them to form a family.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) Explain to me how the physical marital act between same sex couples can procreate life. My point in citing his blog was the bit about if you're against gay marriage your a bigot automatically. That's right up SS's wheelhouse, so I figured it'd get some discussion. Then why let old widows re-marry? Why let women who can't reproduce marry, or vice versa? Why don't we null any marriage that didn't result in children? Those people are ruining marriage as we know it! Why aren't we treating those populations like second-class citizens?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) heartbreaking for raisman. Can't believe she messed up the beam when she's looked so good on it. But fantastic news for Douglas. She was amazing and so consistent.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) No it is not. This is fundamentally false. And you know that. This is about a private company using its money and influence to make sure the government continues enforcing their owners religious beliefs and whether or not to support that company while doing so. And to a lesser extent, it's also about a pretty poor sounding government response in a number of cities. in a nutshell. It's also a perfect encapsulation of the phenomenon of those who are helping deny rights to others acting as victims when others try and gain those same rights. Note, not take away their rights, they can still marry their loves, have wonderful families, live their lives. They just won't be able to force a population into a sub-class. Yeah, it might just be your opinion, but that opinion has real consequences for my friends and neighbors. If it's your opinion that Chick-Fil-A is overrated, that's fine, that's not taking any rights from chick-fil-a. But an opinion on the rights of a minority? Sorry, it holds a bit more weight. And you will be challenged on it. And, in the end, those against gay marriage will lose. And maybe this isn't the fight i'd choose, but to me it's a real sign of just how close we are.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 03:22 AM) Well, it's not like the guy used gay people to shake down political contributions and suck up some votes come November... come on now. "He just expressed his opinion!!!!!!!!!!!" Gay people, what is worse: A guy doing something that improves your lives and continues your fight for equality, even if the reasons may be political or A guy who is spending his fortune to keep you as a second class citizen, even though he believes it in his heart that you are godless sinners that should burn in hell Tough choice. A man doing the right thing even if for the wrong reasons, is much better then the man doing the wrong thing, following his convictions.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) August 1st, 2010 White Sox 59-45 Twins 59-46 1/2 GB We didn't surrender the lead for good that year until AUG 12, but then it REALLY got away from us like in a week, it was over. I still really really love that team.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) He reminds me a lot of Blago the way he thinks. I think this is the one time that someone is being unfair in their characterization of Blago.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 12:14 AM) Listen to what he has to say...and then take an evening or two just to think on it, just to be respectful. If you still think you don't need to stay, then tell him you considered the offer, but you just don't think it's the best move for your future. If you have to give him a decision before you hear from the other company, then just accept it and still take the other job if you need to. There really isn't any other play, other than stalling for time somehow with your own company. Just to piggy back off this: if the compensation adjustment is positive, it's going to be hard to not let that sway you. We all strive to be good at our jobs and it's nice to be recognized. But give yourself some time to really think about what you really want, and if this new job offers it. If it doesn't you are now in a much better position since you are paid adequately. Basically, don't let other people wanting you, sway you from what you need from your career.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 11:02 PM) Oh come on now, donating money to a group and telling your employees to keep the queers out of the store are two entirely different things. GMAB. Edit: and what as the CEO done to "actively promote" discrimination? Stating he doesn't like gay marriage? Edit 2: and if that's the case, that being against gay marriage is promoting discrimination, i'm sure some of you voted for/donated to Obama's campaign. You know, the guy who was also against gay marriage. So really you were actively promoting discrimination as well! Yes, that guy that pretty much immediately removed the federal defense for DOMA.

Great article from Josh Marshall http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012...k.php?ref=fpblg Totally onboard. Ink my finger!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) Unfortunately, if I only bought things from companies I agreed with on everything, I wouldn't have many things. My phone is made by non union Chinese slave labor enabled by lax US laws. My computer is made by a guy who gives to a whole lot of Republicans. I don't have to go to Chick Fil A today but I probably will again. They give me free sandwich coupons most of the times I give blood. But if they want to make a big deal about it, I don't have to go there right now. Eh, political contributions in general don't bother me. If I'm the head of a company i would probably just vote for anything that allowed my company to profit more in a very obvious way. But social politics I do care about. Especially when they are vocal.

Having a difficult time reconciling my hate for gottlieb with his prediction that mizzou wins the SEC.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) The line at the Chik-Fil-A across the street from me was huge. I got there before the line was too big. Meal was delicious and I was served by the owner of the establishment (you know, someone who has invested money in the business and has a lot of money and his livelihood at stake). I'm certainly not boycotting a franchise owned store for something the CEO said (and was perfectly entitled to say). Additionally, he hasn't done anything to treat his employees poorly or to discriminate against them. Note: My coworkers wanted to go, the fact that it happened to be on national chick-fil-a day was pretty much oblivious to all of us (until I logged onto facebook afterwards). I feel for the franchise owners, but I also don't really care. The owner of Urban Outfitters is a real asshole with awful politics that he puts money behind. I dont' shop there and encourage my friends not to shop there. It may be a drop in the bucket, but so what, he has his money i have mine.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) Right, that's what I was getting at. I'm still shocked they ever sold one of those things. Really? You can't believe they sold a very tiny music device that was cheap, especially with their partnership with nike for runners? Just because a tv company makes a really sweet tv doesn't mean they shouldn't offer smaller, less sweet ones for those who can't afford the highest end. It doesn't mean they don't produce groundbreaking products just becasue all of them aren't.

No reason to put this specifically here, but this is a beautiful excerpt from a memoir. It absolutely crushed me, and I think if you guys have the time you should check it out. http://gawker.com/5927452/ His prose is very lyrical. But, it just kind of reminds me those gut punches I get, when I think about my summer in these great events I go to, while so many my neighbors in this city are remembering this summer for who got killed.

goin for it.

I'm not sure a SG will be the answer to the Bulls problems. The SG position sucks right now, would much rather re-structure with a more offensively gifted SF or PF that has a different skillset than boozer and can play better D than to make some super backcourt. I'd say the one superstar that hasn't made his move yet that would put the bulls at the top would be Love. He signed a contract but already is discontent with the roster moves. If there's anything Kahn loves, it's assets to acquire to do nothing with. We just need love to get very whiney and say he wants Chicago. Otherwise he'll probably end up on the lakers in 2 years.
