QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) That sounds like a boy who dumped his girlfriend to see other people, but no one wanted to see him, so he went crawling back. If the girlfriend was initially paying you less than your proposed girlfriends were, and then your girlfriend said that now you could get 15 million a year. -

Regarding Missouri, the most nail-on-head comment i've seen: "Yes, Mizzou has two great tv markets, a rising football reputation, and a solid academic record but if it wants to move it requires a buyer, and from what little credible evidence we have, there appears to be no better buyer than the B12." -
sure...but i think if this wasn't a Mexican (literally) we are talking about there would be outrage about killing a teenager. But, lucky for everyone he was just a Mexican and we'll soon see the statement that the officer acted correctly considering he felt threatened. And the rest of us can continue to hypothesize how much a sixty lb. rock would hurt if whipped by a sixteen year old.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) The statements being thrown around in here from the extremes are pretty absurd. Its not possible to really know if this was justified or not, with what little information we have. The attitudes towards both law enforcement AND the teenager are pretty crass. Yeah, well, one is dead.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) I'd like to know how many people recall their parents being drunk when they were kids, because I'm very sure you dont understand being drunk until you are alot older anyway. I dont think the "role model" stuff applies to a guy drinking 3 beers at a parade. Oversensitivity is a little widespread here IMO. There have been several hockey teams, baseball teams etc that have had drinks while on TV and in front of people several times after winning a championship, its part of the world, people drink. And frankly, there is a difference in not only operation, but perception of athletes and the sports teams and regular businesses. Most businesses don't have a citywide celebration when they close an account, and start spraying champaigne everywhere. They are more like musicians on a record label. As long as it doesn't hurt their productivity, I haven't heard of a record label being pissed about a band being drunk on stage. -

I still don't think Texas is in control. I think they will be the last to move. They won't be in bad shape because they will make SOMEONE a lot of money, but for them, the big 12 is the best option because they control everyone. If the big 12 stays together it's because texas wanted to stay and they organized a new TV deal. But if it doesn't stay together it's not because texas wanted to leave, it's probably because A&M or someone else jumps ship because they are tired of 1 team controlling the organization. The Big 12 was built on sand. This isn't that suprising. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) My ear was itching. WTF is going on in here? From what I gather, even though I don't directly comment on others music posts very often, I should not post about musical acts that I like because Shipps doesn't like them.

I guess South Africa? They've had more than diamond mines though. Yeah I unno. Ukraine was becoming a really up and coming industrial power before USSR too. SO I unno. I understand what you are saying NSS, it's better this that exploits the population rather than the illegal poppy seed trade. And, as Americans, we will probably benefit as consumers from their find, I just hope that this doesn't mean our soldiers will be staying there even longer just to die until we finally confront the fact that, hey, this war really isn't doing much either.

SO far I've heard that Texas is about to commit to the big 12, and that texas OU and 2 others were definitely going to the Pac 10 #awesomereporting -
sure, let me remind you that you've been following me around for like 2 months. Very little of my comments in this thread are directed at anyone but bigsqwert. Your comments toward me remind me of someone trying to prove to themselves their musical tastes are validated, I don't really care for those arguments. If you want to talk about shows, music news, etc. towards me, fine, but don't expect any more responses to you telling me every time I post something "yeah that's not good, i have an opinion". Because, as I said, I don't care.

I don't really have time to get into it as I'm about to head to work. I'm not sour, I just don't care. You strike me as someone who probably just recently really got into how much music they could get on the internet and is discovering a whole bunch of s*** and wants to talk about it, and inevitably trying to organize, classify, and justify where this music fits and what makes what good and what bad, but at some point you'll move beyond that and give up because: "Most of it was just something a bunch of bands would have done in the late 80's. " isn't criticism. Bands in the eighties did use synths and bass. ANd in the eighties bands were playing songs with guitars and drums just like bands in the seventies. And shockingly bands in the seventies were playing blues riffs and singing a lot like bands in the 50s. Everything has an origin. Most bands are unabashedly embracing the sounds they grew up with and reconstructing in their new point of view. The shocking thing about Murphy's project and a lot of bands I like right now, is that in a time where everyone is competing for ears I'd imagine that music might go bigger, and be as cheesy as some early 80s pop bands. But the thing that makes Sound of Silver and This is Happening... and the s/t so good is how restrained it is. Each song has 3 memorable components, drums bass synth...they don't blend together, they sync up. that weird synth going on in "all i want" that slowly builds until the end where it's all you can think about and lust after is pretty much LCD's calling card - see the ridiculous piano in all my friends, which starts off annoying then gets beat into you until you love it. Add to that the honest, humorous, memorable lyrics and that's what people like about LCD soundsystem. Not that they are groundbreaking, but that they make really good pop songs. Except most of their singles.

Cool email from TPM about how this isn't that surprising:
-
On face value I'd like to believe that, but I just imagine it will end up more congo or sierra leone than Ukraine or elsewhere.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Although the Aggies Rivals site says A&M to the SEC. If you haven't figured it out yet, this is a classic case of sources using and abusing a bunch of writers hoping to be "breaking". Chip Brown has been wrong about 60% of the time so far. And a bunch of posts in here set as definitive were anything but. They are listening to anyone and reporting everything. -
Over .500 and within 5 games by the end of the month!
bmags replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
of course, this is what I want. To push up to around .500 and float around there being vaguely competitive only to lose the division by 8-10 games but be able to say we had another winning record. -
I think what's more remarkable is that we could hold our country responsible for our actions and want them not to make stupid rhetorical flourishes that hinder our interests abroad.

lolz, criticism from the chamber of commerce and republicans...bahaha I'm shocked, SHOCKED

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Keep deflecting the point. I have never deflected criticism at BP. bahahaha
