it also helps when they get away with handballs directly leading to goals.

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) I understand the skepticism. I'm certainly not elevating this team as one of the top teams in the AL. Not yet. But just a couple weeks ago it looked like 2007 all over again. We're playing meaningful baseball again. That feels pretty f***ing good. The pitching is finally dominating like expected. Offense is still a major question mark. Will see what happens. All I know is we have the most aggressive, and most importantly, ballsy GM in baseball. If this team continues to play well, he'll bring in some offense. No doubt in my mind. Well, as I said in the other winner thread, the difference in 2007 and our other winning-but-not playoff years, was interleague. We played awful in interleague that year.

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) Huh? You want to just continue to wait for players to perform. I've seen this song and dance for the past decade. I'd like to see them try and get passed win 82 and go for 90 more proactively than "we'll, these players will turn it around"

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:59 PM) Fix Quentin and Beckham and you've got a shot. Or replace Beckham with Viciedo somehow. Adding a DH would be nice, but it's not going to help if Quentin hits like Kotsay the rest of the year. no, that's the exact opposite of what will help. These guys might pull it together, might not, it's 2.5 months in, this team is probably going to be pretty similar to what you'll get. Fix it now, or hold a press conference and say "we are comfortable putting together .500 teams."

YET ANOTHER WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) Dude, just shut up (and I say that respectfully) and enjoy the run. True. But his defense is to a degree offsetting his mediocre offense. Anybody who wants to move Beckham to SS needs a serious reality check. I am. There's no reason our starting pitching should have ever been worst in the AL. But it was. Our offense, yes I could've guessed that. BUt the point stands - in 2001 we had a 22-7 run to roar us back to .500 and over. This is the wonderful part about being in the AL, june can serve as a downhill slope in a marathon. Hopefully it can slingshot us forward. I think an offensive addition at this point (ala 2003 - except get actual good offensive players) could really pick the team up. I'd rather not just say "see, we're fixed, this is how we were supposed to play." I think I'm getting hang of this. You'll know what to do with your AL team after June. If they couldn't do anything during interleague to pick themselves up (if previously struggling), you are f***ed. Unload, play for draft, bring up your young'ens. If you succeed against the weak NL, then diagnose what is still plaguing them during those times and try to fix it. So yes, our pitching (strength) is back. Now what?

Chicago Trip
You know what Rex? I think you'd really enjoy going to Xoco, it's one of Rick Bayless' restaurants, it's reasonably priced and everyone I know loves it. It probably would be a cool addition to your trip to go to one of Chicagos most renowned chef's restaurants.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) The argument for most people isnt that Jenks can't be good. There's more a suspicion that he stops throwing the curve for long stretches of time without telling anyone his reasoning. True, he could be informing Coop/Ozzie outside our knowledge....but there seems to be a scenario where he keeps going out there, but restricts his curve throwing to 1) pace himself? 2) preserve his health for financial gain this offseason? 3)who knows But since we dont get the info, we begin wondering about these possibilities. The difference between 2007 and 2009, 2004 2002 2001, all those really mediocre years where we just hang around enough to feel like it was a good season... was interleague play. 2007 we were AWFUL in interleague. If you take that out we were just another KW white sox team. If you wanna have a good season you cannot f*** up your vacation in may-june known as interleague

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) There are two arguments here. One, that we all agree on - BP had a history of being on the cheap with their safety, and eventually it caught them in the ass, and their negligence caused the worst ecological disaster in our history. They should be made to pay for every dime that is a result of that. No one is disputing this. The second argument is that Obama is using this catastrophe for political gain on multiple fronts. I'm not blind. I realize EVERY president does this to some degree, but that doesn't mean I can't complain when I think Obama steps over the line. Arguing against some of Obama's moves isn't diminishing the anger or demand for accountability of BP and other like companies. BP may have been skirting stuff, but we knew we needed major steps to get off oil before this happened, now we are just reaping what we sew, and are shocked by it. It's only going to get harder to drill. Stuff like this is only going to get more likely. But how dare we not act like this is an isolated incident and we should all go guzzle some motor oil for breakfast.

I'm SHOCKED that we don't get angry and demand accountability for corporations that kill our citizens, destroy our ecosystem and destroy local economies. WHAT SOCIALIST EMPIRE IS THIS?!@?!!?!?!?

Chicago Trip
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 04:34 AM) Here is our thinking at this point. We'll be in early on Thursday July 1. We'd like to squeeze in a half day at one of the museums, an architecture tour and then the Art Institute that night. The Art Institute is open late on Thursday nights. She has a membership to the McWane Center here which is a local interactive science museum. That membership will get us into either Field of S & I. Friday and Saturday we have tickets to games that afternoon, so it might be difficult to do any of the above on those days around the games. We fly back Sunday. Also, are there any Frank Lloyd Wright homes (or anything related) within reasonable distance? At this point, one of the architecture tours seems to be our compromise, but that was one of the first things she mentioned when we discussed going. I've never heard anyone say something bad about the architecture boat tours.

Yeah, i expect if Exxon had destroyed the english countryside (which still isn't even comparable to the amount of tourist dollars and fishing that we'll lose) I'm sure so many Americans would be like "Hey! Lay off exxon!"

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The fact of the matter is a spill like this is bigger than BP. There is not perfect protocal or magical method to fix it. It is why you needed a bigger party involved ensuring that as many and every resource out there is handled, including the assistance of government resources. That thing is our government, who while they don't have the expertise, has the power to reach out and get other oil companies resources involved, other countries resources (boats, etc) involved and of course the finest engineers/researchers/etc involved. BP has done a lot wrong, but lets not act as if they are intentionally failing to clean this thing up. This is a really delicate situation that needs a s***load of attention and unfortunately is heavily a trial & error process. BP is not the only one doing this, they have a bunch of people from all the other companies working on it, and the government has enlisted a bunch of people from other countries to help out. In 1979 it took 10 mos. to end the spill. This one is even deeper and worse. It appears relief wells are all that will stop it. Maybe we learned our lesson and the only law we'll pass after this won't be "Let's cap the pay the oil company would need to pay in case this ever happens again."

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) ZOMG! People questioning Jesus II! Oh the humanity! I know you think Obama is the greatest thing ever, but he doesn't (and shouldn't) be putting himself in that kind of a position. It's ridiculous. We have this thing called a court system that already plays a role in what he's proposing and has for quite some time. ahh, yes, we should wait for the courts to play this out, it only took the people affected by exxon mobile 20 years to get their pay. We should all make sure everyone get's f***ed over except BP. They are an amazing company because they are awesome and big and everyone is wrong except them, they should not be forced to do anything, they are competent, except to clean up the spill, the gov't should do that, the gov't should pay for it, WHY IS THE GOV'T MAKING BP PAY FOR IT..... WHY IS BP STILL CLEANING UP THEIR OWN MESS WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY

Peavy has fluid in his shoulder
I'm shocked to see that bulldog makeup we heard so much about this offseason hasn't come through. Surely someone as prepared and competitive and mentally sharp and angry and good at interviewing as Peavy was should translate into little health problems and maximum wins. After all, wouldn't a true bulldog mentality cause him to rip off his arm from his shoulder and beat the batter unconscious. I swear, the disappointment from this season makes me feel like offseason reporting might be...gulp...meaningless?!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Why doesn't OU have more power? Why does Texas control all. It isn't like they are some small school. They have an exceptional football program (oen of the best in college football history) and recently a pretty strong basketball program. Texas' market is huge. The four texas schools? Very huge.
