  1. Yeah, i expect if Exxon had destroyed the english countryside (which still isn't even comparable to the amount of tourist dollars and fishing that we'll lose) I'm sure so many Americans would be like "Hey! Lay off exxon!"
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The fact of the matter is a spill like this is bigger than BP. There is not perfect protocal or magical method to fix it. It is why you needed a bigger party involved ensuring that as many and every resource out there is handled, including the assistance of government resources. That thing is our government, who while they don't have the expertise, has the power to reach out and get other oil companies resources involved, other countries resources (boats, etc) involved and of course the finest engineers/researchers/etc involved. BP has done a lot wrong, but lets not act as if they are intentionally failing to clean this thing up. This is a really delicate situation that needs a s***load of attention and unfortunately is heavily a trial & error process. BP is not the only one doing this, they have a bunch of people from all the other companies working on it, and the government has enlisted a bunch of people from other countries to help out. In 1979 it took 10 mos. to end the spill. This one is even deeper and worse. It appears relief wells are all that will stop it. Maybe we learned our lesson and the only law we'll pass after this won't be "Let's cap the pay the oil company would need to pay in case this ever happens again."
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) ZOMG! People questioning Jesus II! Oh the humanity! I know you think Obama is the greatest thing ever, but he doesn't (and shouldn't) be putting himself in that kind of a position. It's ridiculous. We have this thing called a court system that already plays a role in what he's proposing and has for quite some time. ahh, yes, we should wait for the courts to play this out, it only took the people affected by exxon mobile 20 years to get their pay. We should all make sure everyone get's f***ed over except BP. They are an amazing company because they are awesome and big and everyone is wrong except them, they should not be forced to do anything, they are competent, except to clean up the spill, the gov't should do that, the gov't should pay for it, WHY IS THE GOV'T MAKING BP PAY FOR IT..... WHY IS BP STILL CLEANING UP THEIR OWN MESS WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
  4. This guy rear ended me, and I shook him down for the $300 for the bumper. Welcome to Chicago, I told him. SUCKERRRRR
  5. Anyone in this thread: "Republican has affair with staffer" Kap response: "Oh sure I'm just a racist adulteror out to molest your kids!"
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 01:48 AM) Notre Dame seems pretty comparable to Nebraska. Fallen superpower. They wouldn't run the division. Nebraska is going to be pretty damn good real soon though.
  7. I'm shocked to see that bulldog makeup we heard so much about this offseason hasn't come through. Surely someone as prepared and competitive and mentally sharp and angry and good at interviewing as Peavy was should translate into little health problems and maximum wins. After all, wouldn't a true bulldog mentality cause him to rip off his arm from his shoulder and beat the batter unconscious. I swear, the disappointment from this season makes me feel like offseason reporting might be...gulp...meaningless?!
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 02:43 AM) Kap is correct. She's just saying that it's vital that Harry Reid be defeated in the election. If he is re-elected, THEN we'll be forced to rise up and murder him. Voting for her is the only way to save Reid's life. It's really a very compassionate statement. thank you.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) Why doesn't OU have more power? Why does Texas control all. It isn't like they are some small school. They have an exceptional football program (oen of the best in college football history) and recently a pretty strong basketball program. Texas' market is huge. The four texas schools? Very huge.
  10. Edit: that was sharron angle, who beat sue lowden. double edit: THE QUOTE WAS ANGLE
  11. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Sounds like a perfectly good argument for stopping this bloody deep oil drilling completely. And we seriously need to look past the President and BP's fault in this. We really need to look at ourselves. Who started using more public transit? Who started making and keeping more efficient residences? Who stopped buying fruits and vegetables from thousands of miles away? Nobody. I think we play this blame game to help us dismiss the fact that BP is really only providing a service that so many selfish individuals demand. We blame to cover up our own guilt. "It's those evil executives and politicians to blame! How could they do this!?!?! I'm so much better than them!" AMEN X ∞
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) I'm not a scientist or an engineer, so I'm not sure what specific things he can/should do. But unless you're suggesting that he's no longer needed, there's SOMETHING he could be doing, like speaking to BP about his (our) concerns for longer than 20 minutes. And enforcing existing regulation would have prevented this thing from happening as well. Again, why would words on a piece of paper mean jack to a company that clearly skirted the rules and were allowed to because that oh-so-efficient government can't/won't/didn't do its job? Sweet. From now on these wells have to have a redundant blowout preventer. Hell, mandate they have 10 of them. That still requires the company to install it and the government to make sure that it gets installed. IMO there's an equal chance that this type of thing happens again because a blowout preventer fails and because a company gets greedy, works on the cheap, and the gov't fails to catch them. so we should nationalize all energy companies. Excellent.
  13. well then why give a f***? More regulation may get worthless but only after the regulated companies get good enough at buying an entire agency or enough people are put there specifically to get bought, but at least it has potential to fix the problem, as opposed to relying on BP to give a s***, which has proven to not work. If you want to feel less helpless, stop using so many plastic bags and find other ways to get around beside car. "Catastrophes" like this are only going to get more likely as oil gets harder to find. This is the consequence for our lifestyle.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) We did hire a President with significant underwater experience in 1976 you know. and in the gulf spill in 79 it took him 10 months.
  15. Well, now we at least know we need to hire an engineer to be president with deep experience in under water stopography.
  16. ugh, i hate when people are in on their own joke of a life.
  17. Guys, environmentalists don't actually care about the environment. That's why they can sabotage an entire eco-system just because they REALLY just hate oil and coal companies. It's pretty brillz. As brillz as kap.

it's pretty shocking that a women could find work as an actress looking like that! What are these producers thinking! I'll have them know I will not spend my money on a women who is not entirely attractive. This is an outrage!
  19. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 01:31 AM) Beebe's dumbass said that the Big 12 won't be expanding teams. Basically we have a group of teams that doesn't want to be together, has no TV contract set in stone, and only has one teams interest at heart. There's no chance this conference will be around past 2 years. The ONLY reason the league was saved is because UT got everything they wanted. If the Pac 10 offers Texas Tech or the Big 10 offers Mizzou, it's over. Well, the purported bump in money is still substantial.
  20. Best Coast's full-length can be pre-ordered starting today.
  21. I'd love love love memphis for basketball entered into the Big 12. But yeah, Big 12 once again makes a pact that won't last. It's not gonna be around past this decade.

No, I did all of that. I reported it last friday, they sent me a new one on saturday, and now it's late again. And I'm not in the f***ing boondocks. The best I can think of is the mail is having trouble with our mailbox? BUT I AM STILL GETTING MAIL! It's so annoying. They said if it doesn't come tomorrow I get another 20 days for free.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Takes me about 2 days for each movie. I'll send it back on MOnday, they get it on Tuesday and send my next one out on Tues, I get next one Wed. It's taken me 9 days.
  24. pretty much. But that's what happens when you have a market that completely dominates the rest. However, we made out pretty money-wise. But, in 5 years I expect the big 12 to be gone again. This isn't a solid relationship. However, losing Nebraska and CU for basketball, good riddance. For football 1/2.
