Rumor: Sox Pursuing Jose Quintana
I still don't think the "he never played in games for the sox" gets them off the hook. from the big Athletic profile, Preller was scouting him in Instructs in AZ, and tracked him in extended spring training. It is honestly a bit bizarre that he signed July 2, 2015, and still didn't show up in any games in AZL or DSL by late June. But this was from the oral history article: So it's not like the guy just never ended up in the ball field. He was at their fall instructs, he was at spring training. He clearly had huge growth the end of 2016. But anyway, it was 6 years ago. Sucks so much though.

19 y.o. gabriel rodriguez with the very rare CGSO in DSL. last year he had a 9 SO/9 ratio which is strong but walked a ton of batters. This year, he's cut down a bit on the BBs, and only 1 BB in 7 IP is pretty great.

imo you can either fix the logjam of positionless players or fix the RHP-hitting deficiencies, but you can't do both cheaply. You can go Bell, or you can go a Laureano-ish type player. Otherwise you shop for a Reynolds.

Jenkins is a good reminder that 2nd round tackles are like the 1st round prep righthander of the NFL.

Sox have called Conforto, talking about other premium players
Yeah sorry I'm out on Gallo, out on Conforto. Gallo can be fixed, I don't think it will be this season. Conforto, just no way I'm touching that guy. Will probably be short-sighted but just seems too dumb to get injured as a free agent.

Trade Rumors Catch-all
It is a bummer. As we entered the offseason I think we all wanted the sox sights set on now beating the best teams in baseball. Now they've lowered to try and take the division by boostering depth. Balancing the sox weaknesses (LH power, power with positional versatility, starting pitching) is expensive, whereas the cheapest depth are cheap because they are all stuff the sox have (no power, low obp guys) It sucks the braves won, because they are the worst narrative for Hahn to follow. But it is true that tinkering around the margins may pay off if moncada, eloy, grandal, pollock start to match the performances of TA, Robert, Abreu, Vaughn. I still think the defensive limitations are an issue, and despite offensively providing little, Laureano could really help us break out of our outfield log jam and really define some roles. But you'd want to get rid of pollock.

It is a year, so once again hahn will choose to chase depth at the trade deadline by trading out longer term depth.

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
I am very pro Soto. But you have to add him in a way that maximizes the team building. It would be a huge waste to negate his addition by shedding too much current team production. Robert does that. I am understanding of Vaughn at least because his lack of position has wrecked his output, but I also blame Grandal/sheets for that

I was pretty surprised he was not in BA 500.

Rosenthal said Nats unlikely to muddle return by shedding salary, they already have low payroll slated for next year
