Seeing what padres pitchers have done post-leaving makes taking a flyer on Paddack intriguing however I see him going to TB for Meadows.
-
Little shocked there...did mendick make it? Romy is going to be our starting 2b in June.

Yeah too many teams are trying to compete. The free agent starters don't look even that much worse than the 3-5 on the rebuilding teams. I wonder if you target someone you would have gone after in rule 5 draft at this point and hope they get you there. Maybe Yankees Shawn Semple or Rays Christopher Gau, both were in rule 5 top guys. Trade out a younger prospect for them and pray.
-
Yeah these are what mine keep floating around as well so I'm waiting for more mock drafts to understand some more about those guys from a non-pff write-up view. Would really like to see if bears could convert another 3rd rounder but at least I'd hope they get a 4th rounder via trade back.

Sox Acquire Reese McGuire for Zack Collins, Officially

I believe that since 2015 or so player development is a big advantage and the sox agree because they have invested quite a bit to improve it, but unfortunately so did every other team. Not every player improves because of an approach or mechanical change. But if you have a player under control in your org that could have been changed for the better and you didn't do it that is a huge failed opportunity. Actually not everything works all the time is true but it's not a reason to believe that nothing ever works any of the time. -
It really does seem dead. There are so, so few tanking teams aside from As, Reds, Orioles. Dbacks...I mean would be great to have a zach davies even but he can't be traded I believe. there is only garbage right now.

I think it's definitely true sox struggle in general with defensive coaching. Wellington castillo had his best framing seasons ever, then slipped to terrible with sox. McCann did improve, but framing is a bit noisy, but in general he was welcome because he had come with a solid defensive reputation and handled the staff as advertised. Narvaez was poor and they didn't care to change it. Collins was always going to be a challenge. They both don't seem to care much about defense at catcher in scouting or teaching. But you could carry that over to the failure of a number of prospects who needed work on defense and failed to convert. The story of Flowers itself, from his words, seemed largely self taught, and they didn't care about him enough to keep it. I think Grandal's framing even in the signing was a nice to have. They seem obssessed with getting offensive production out of catcher and seem plussed about defensive limitations if necessary. And for tampa, they have a lot of talent they lose out of rule 5 and stuff, because they make sure they have a big system. -
That’s crazy, pitchers develop pitches suddenly all the time

who do you think I am?

thanks for the heads up jerks. And congrats!

I'd still take a flyer on Folty on aminor league deal. His fb velo went up to 94 mph last year. He was dogshit, but his velo was closer to back. And pitchers are weird, he's likely awful. But yeah gonna be rough when they add Trevor Bauer.

They traded Narvaez. Would love to to find the threads gloating post seattle after people tried to throw back my arguments that a catcher as offensively gifted as Narvaez, under control cheaply, should have the sox doing everything possible to make him defensively adequate. Now he is, is a top 10 catcher. Way more valuable than a reliever who was getting paid his market. Oh well, I'd be a great GM and you are all worse off for me being just an incredible message board admin.

Trading young position player prospects for young pitching prospects would could go wrong

interested to see what this is about, img is broken for me.

I have no problem saying McGuire is interchangeable offensively too. Collins was useless in the second half and Zevala had a miracle game but is a nothing. This guy is an actual strong late game replacement. But long term I’m still pro Perez. My belief is the Sox don’t know how to scout catchers and he’s better than they are grading him.

Was wondering when you would show up. Finally after all these years the Sox get one of your catching targets. -

Sox are gonna sign Cole Hamels and Chuck is gonna throw an emergency parade podcast

I’m gonna guess they end up with meadows and rays get one of em.

I retrospect waiting until the last week for this may have been a bad decision

Really the first post should have said “he’s kind of a boring pitcher.” And that is true

Eh he probably was just tired of spring training.
