So while waiting for my pizza I went through more of his site/tweets and I think his belief is the bears are going to give a lot of power to their next coach and so this matters less as the coach will remake the org.

Love the disconnect here. They are going to hire a new GM and Coach now but know that their current President is retiring in a year ?? Nit saying it’s definitely true but If that is what was told to me Id point out that that is already a disaster. ”Hi new president, here is your GM and Coach we just hired, so you can’t do anything until they fail”

I felt bad for the Hawks, I’m just glad the Bulls banked the wins after being in similar situations.

Really solid of Schefter to use all of his weight to raise so much today. I hope Their son can maintain some normalcy of schools districts and friend groups as he transitions into his new caretakers. This has just been so miserably sad.

I am so sad for his son. RIP Jeff Dickerson, and this is terrible.

Mets could shop McNeil, Sox could have interest
I’m confused, I thought the front office thought eatons attitude was what the front office thought was missing last offseason?

Dodgers trading lux with their turners getting older, Muncy out for an extended run and losing Seager seems more implausible than before.

I don’t really consider his 46% GB rate that bad, and he was dealing with multiple leg injuries last year which I’m hoping accounts for his drop in speed and power. But a 45ish% GB rate when your Krate is just 13% vs an Abreu/Sheets where it’s very annoying because of their power potential and higher krate and slower speed making a higher % of their PAs as outs. Obviously we hope McNeils power output was due to his legs, but he wouldn’t be available otherwise. His defense rates as fantastic, however. So Lefthanded, high contact, great defense continues to check more boxes than most of our additions. He did have attitude issues fighting with Lindor last year, so hopefully this isn’t acquiring a swisher.

Good Jeff McNeil is about as perfect a fit as you can get for complementing Sox offensive gaps. Hahn has shown he is okay with swinging three team deals, and not like it’s that often a ML for ML player is widely available. Would assume Sox just need to offer best package and would be in running regardless of if it’s SP near majors.

I would be surprised if there is a sub group of people that wants Pace to stay and Nagy gone. They were bad for each other, but they also chose each other. You can look at this roster and accurately say it doesn't matter who was coaching, they weren't going to the playoffs. They went into the season in a passing league with one good cornerback, and just handed the position to a 2nd year guy who was hapless, and backed up by players even more hapless. They handed the C position during a year where a rookie would play to a 2nd year undrafted free agent who, while smart, is overmatched on every play physically. Their receiver depth is awful, inside linebacker depth was both large and terrible. But you can look at this roster and see a personnel group who was constantly chasing positions and players the head coach said he prioritized that he never knew what to do with. With a group of established, star defense, the limited cap left went to grabbing gadget players and tight ends the coach never seemed to get the most out of. He said he wanted zone run blockers, was terrible at it, and it turns out he had good power run blockers, and doesn't run with them. He asked for a pass catching backup running back and pace brings him mike davis. He looks awful and they cut him before the seasons over. The next year he goes to carolina and does a credible Christian McCaffrey impression in his absence. He wants more versatility and they bring him Cordarelle patterson. He's lost in the run game as all of our RBs were prior to Lazer Bears this year, and he goes on to be one of the most productive offensive players in the league in ATL in the exact role Nagy wanted. I just need to say the position "tight end" and we all know what I'm talking about. He wants speed speed speed so they grab the bargain bin speedy receivers that are left like Breshad Perriman, only for him to never see the field but is capable of being an immediate fill in for Tampa Bay. They chose each other, trusted each other and that's the reason we are all miserable.

Obviously last night was a slog, and every year of my life december january has just been waiting for the football slog to be over and staring at disbelief at the other teams that aren't just a slog and wondering how every year is the same... however they just had a week where all of their coordinators were unsure if they could be there, half their team disappeared. Not that surprised they looked terrible especially with fields and I didn't think he looked that bad. It's amazing to me with the bears offensive staff under nagy just how unaware of their roster's capabilities they are. They are not a very talented group on offense anyway, as seen by the huge disparity in $ investment. But it feels like a yearly occurrence where someone like Cordarelle Patterson or Mike Davis leaves after being useless and suddenly finding relevance again doing exactly what they seem to be good at. Any roster craziness like last night is a death warrant for a game under nagy because they always seem completely unaware what their players are good at and clearly bad at teaching their players what they want them to be good at. They have been remarkably good at power runs and just seem as a team completely disinterested in doing that. Just hitches. Lots and lots of hitches. Defensively it was a nice game to see, a game without much of the higher priced talent that you ideally shed. Now, quinn is an insanely productive player and he was on the field. As was Hicks. But at this point I'd expect the next FO to try to recoup and send out the higher priced defensive talent and provide some balance toward their QBs talent group. Quinn, Mack need to fetch high picks. Goldman can save $6M. It's rough but if they have two cost-controlled tackles and a rookie QB it should be doable with a good front office and staff.

Where could Kimbrel be traded, and for what?
It's also one of those things where the dodgers being willing to trade bellinger would mean they don't think he's bouncing back either (normal bellinger with his versatility and bat >> even a very good outcome for Vaughn), so you should think twice anyway.

Pretty clear over the last few weeks just how much of the bulls success Demar in particular is responsible for.

Where could Kimbrel be traded, and for what?
I wouldn’t be shocked at all. Dodgers have operated caring little about AAV and a lot about length. Kenley is likely to prioritize years. So Kimbrel should be a target of theirs. The packaged they mentioned was better than what I proposed but we’ll see.

well yes he won the power struggle and that was bad when he became the president, gm, draft scout, coach. But the point is when Adam Schefter puts that list out and says "wow college coaches aren't good" it's compared to what? How does the offensive whiz kid QB coach tree look now? How are defensive coordinators? Retreat head coach has been the most successful, and then you could put a list up that goes: Jon Gruden Adam Gase Jack Del Rio Pat Shurmer Hue Jackson John Fox Mike Mularkey Lovie Smith Jeff Fisher Doug Marone Gary Kubiak Andy Reid Pete Carroll Ron Rivera The amazing coaches tend to have been coaches before, but also were often successful before and time just got too long at the org and changes were made. So for any list it is "compared to what". NFL Head coaches are likely to fail, but almost certainly are going to fail in trash organizations like the bears have.

So that list includes Harbaugh and Carroll who went and won a Super Bowl respectively, and Kingsbury and OBrien who are likely and did take their teams to a playoff. How does that list compare percentage wise to any other type of NFL coach hire?

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I’m reminded of the confidence the owners had in creating leverage by not really negotiating through June 2020, the players refused and we ended up with a crappy 60 game season. Many of these owners are shrewd businessmen who can definitely put together organizations underneath them and help steer lucrative media partnerships and contracts. But unless they own like an airline, it doesn’t mean they have any special talents in this area.
