All the Cubans....again?
as one of the only and early advocates for acquiring duvall, I have the authority to say this post-hoc whining to be embarrassing. The braves shift stuff, I get. But it doesn't take watching more than a week of baseball to admire and admit the braves got extremely lucky on some guys that were just intended to shore them up in a completely terrible division.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
So will we actually hear news on this front now?

All the Cubans....again?
Maybe Soxtalk shouldn’t be allowed to watch the World Series.

yeah, that chart shows nothing. Next year maybe we are second best by doing nothing and achieving what STL did. I'd like to see what this looks like specifically with pitchers that throw >40% sinkers.

You are probably right, though, Ayos measurables were pretty terrible. I think his vertical was only like 34 inches which was comparable to a Center/PF, not a guard. Looks like Jimmy was a near 40" vertical. So some of this stuff may be real and limit his ceiling a bit, but for the past few years with our rooks we've talked about how they had great feel - yet weren't showing up much in counting stats. Well, Ayo's feel on offense is hectic, but the you know when that dude is on the court.

One thing I'm not very good at, and certainly not by just watching TV, is really judging athleticism. Obviously, Zach Lavine and Ja Morant kinda jump out the building, but I would not have guessed Ayo scored so poorly on athleticism. His length and anticipation must make up for so much of that, because especially defensively, he seems to be able to stick and recover so well. Ricky O'Donnel made me laugh last night with a tweet that DeRozan is basically 97-98 Michael Jordan, and it really does feel that way watching him at times (obviously, exclusively on offense). It's wild watching right now in this version of the league especially.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
Are the players reps and league even at the table working on this now or is it expected to kick into gear after the WS?

Ayo May have had rough offensive nights, but he’s fearless. I’ll take that

I have been in and out and only seemed to see them down double digits. Just got back for the Ayo heater. Demar is just nuts.

There is one thing that is my absolute takeaway on the braves. They went into the 2020 playoffs as did the white sox. They left knowing they had Max Fried and Ian Anderson who could thrive. They went out and got Charlie Morton, who pitches for the playoffs. The sox left with a brilliant Giolito, but saw Keuchel crater and the bullpen collapse. The braves now know they have post season pitchers, and I 100% believe that's a thing. It's probably not a thing, but it is a thing. The sox got lynn, and 2 years later we still don't have a guy we know will win a game 7.

2021 NFL Season Thread
Well, if anyone dreamt of a big package coming back for Mack, that should be a gut punch. Not only injured, but also a tough match with the amount a team needs to acquire. Though, I think bigger issue is the foot uncertainty.

what sox are facing is if they just want to get 2b production, it won't cost much. If the sox want to use 2b to hedge against their dominant traits (RHP-deficient, ground ball heavy, low contact) then they have few options. It will be about balance. As it stands, hernandez is one of better options, which is gross. If the sox want a left-handed madrigal, they would have traded for Frazier. The sox did go after Cesar, but at this point it's not clear if the balancing of the lineup is a must-have for the sox, or a nice to have. re: bolded, I'm talking about from the sox FO perspective. For me it's a must have.

2021-22 NBA Thread
That was a huge win. There was some stuff on bulls Twitter I agree with. Zach is awesome but he does tend to have incredible 2-3 minute runs throughout games where he piles it on. DeRozan has provided a consistent scoring presence that has kept them consistently competitive throughout games. The last few years there would be huge runs against the bulls they couldn’t stop, and couldn’t overcome. He keeps them out of those holes. But the real story has to be the defense. It’s clear Ayo, Green and DJJ know their role on this team - be active, take risks and run the damn floor.

I think everything post thibs there should answer the obvious point that Minnesota has been a trash organization that perpetually underperforms, yet made the playoffs in a loaded west under him.

I think people for the most part agree. I did that fantasy “who gets us over the top” poll with semien vs scherzer and max won in 66-33

Reading the report, I was most agnostic about Bowman, and I think you in general are right. But when you get to then end and realize this guy left the hawks with an ability to keep at it, all it took was him telling Scottie that this guy should never work again. Granted, that just pushes his abuse to other industries. If I’m Wirts though, I would basically ask all involve resign or be fired. No reason to keep them and be nuanced. There are too many people that could succeed at sports.

Padres interview Ozzie for MGR job
I know you all believe that any quality of a team, anything that happens, ultimately is attributed to the manager. I disagree. It's so weird how Tampa and Boston have had all these great managers, isn't it? So crazy that the Astros are just dominant despite hinch not being there. I mean...boy, Gabe Kapler over there in San Francisco, sheesh, he must be an amazing manager. Definitely we learned that when you put him on a team, good things happen. Joe Girardi man. That guy, what he did with those young Yankees teams, Boone couldn't have done that. I bet if you put him on another talented team he'd definitely get the most out of em. And sheesh, TLR. You take that guy out of St Louis, good luck ever making another world series.

2021 NHL Thread
I've written a lot of stuff on this but not much more to say. Was listening to the score and they were saying how Bowman should have stood up and demanded action or stepping down. To me, the worse part is no dramatic action like that was needed. Literally just caring a bit more...following up more with a "hey did you take care of that thing" would probably have worked. But he didn't really care. McDonough didn't really care. Quenneville didn't care. The trainer didn't really care. The HR person...hoo boy, did not give a crap. I fully believe there was no cover up here, because that would have meant they thought there was something worth covering up. Instead they were just annoyed. McDonough couldn't be more full of crap, but holy hell I hope that HR rep is not in that line of work anymore.
