Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
I agree. Would I rather have Liam Hendriks or Yates/McGee? It's actually a tough call for me. This virtually guarantee Yates/Mcgee will struggle to finish the year.

2021 MLB Draft Thread
I can't remember the last time sox were connected correctly. They still do the "sox like college picks" which is true but they also get it pretty off. 2016 was a lot of kyle lewis (which they should have!) 2017 was all about Jeren Kendall 2018 I'm not going to claim wasn't madrigal heavy, but it was also a ton of Brady Singer 2019 was top 3 pick so i'm not counting it, not hard to figure out top 3. 2020 was a lot of Detmers/Bailey And I don't know what to say, he doesn't have the Team USA connection, but for some reason I see this and think this is going to be the guy they put on the sox: 13. Sal Frelick, OF, Boston College Gatorade's Massachusetts High School Football Player of the Year in 2017, Frelick also starred in baseball and hockey as a prepster. While he's not overly physical at 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds, he could have three plus tools in his bat, speed and center-field defense, and he might develop average power. I kinda think it might just be college player that the college baseball media scouts all love that they aren't getting great feedback on from team-side evaluators they just would put on the white sox because the love college. Or maybe the jeren kendall year was just too influential on me.

2021 MLB Draft Thread
Now that we're at 22 and not top ten I'm trying to familiarize myself with the profiles I wouldn't touch. BAs writeup is pretty nice though. I would say in general I'd prefer they stick with multi-sport, projectable, athletic players who didn't quite put it all together in HS. My guess for player the sox will be connected to a lot but not draft is Sal Frelick.

Sox acquire Lance Lynn for Dane Dunning and Avery Weems
I mean somewhat related but a tangent: this caused me to go back and look at David Wells page because I always think it's hilarious how old some of the players KW acquired in the early 00s that we still thought would be great. David Wells was 38 when we acquired him, and he pitched 6 more years. But that's not what I'm writing about. The real surprise I always have looking at Wells page is he's not that good? I mean when I was a kid and we got him, I was thrilled that we got a bonafide Ace. And yeah, that's because he won 20 games...but his ERA was 4.1! And then I'm like "man, late 90s early 00s, the offensive environment was just incomprehensible to now" But then you look at the top 10 in ERA then and it looks pretty similar to now. He didn't strike people out, though he didn't walk people. Completely at odds with how I remember him as a kid. Anyway pedro martinez is the best pitcher in history.

It's true that I worry more about a bigger 20 year old who hasn't shown they can handle their body weight than a 32 year old that has shown they can handle their body weight.

Do the sox even have another need?
Definitely Jordan.

The only thing I worry about with Rosenthal is he has some years where he just loses all his control. He was great last year though. We do have a nice fallback in Bummer, so we do have room to experiment.

LOL we just paid kelvin herrera 8 million to ride a horse all year and it ...didn't matter at all? But the thought of Liam Hendriks at $10 million for year 3? THE HORROR. Again, relievers are so expensive in arb. $10 mill is less than we paid Colome last year who was still on his rookie deal.

Baseball America unveils White Sox Top 10
I'd say the only sad stuff was their notes on how a lot of the guys this board is excited about (the younger position players that were in AZL/Bailey) were likely set back in a way that Thompson/DAlquist were fortunate to not be with their inclusion in schaumburg

Tommy Kahnle's fastball numbers looked really good in August.

Baseball America unveils White Sox Top 10
Other good stuff, and I know this is somewhat speculation from them (since I believe getz said he was less concerned with correct placement than playing time next year) but they talked about a Kannapolis rotation of Dalquist, Thompson and Kelley, and yeah, that is going to be a fun rotation to follow.

I take back what I said this is unreal lol. Every bit of it, even past the comps. What a selection by the sox and Shirley.

Baseball America unveils White Sox Top 10
I am here for them... But also BA friggen loves college pitchers lol. They always rank like 10 of them int heir top 100 right out of the draft, but yeah they've started to revise their rankings of pitchers.

Of course it was a salary dump, your position states that they couldn't have traded Robertson without including Kahnle. And I call that B.S. This was the best return they could get while also dumping salary.

B.S. This is revisionist. The sox targeted Rutherford. It's their fault for targeting a player who was already showing he coudln't hit for power. They also didn't have to add frazier salary if it meant anything. It was also reported sox had a deal in place to trade him to nats for luzardo and that bad 3rd baseman. It's because the sox needed to get good players that it was so hard for them to find suitors. It's not good when your best players are market rate AND your only route to getting good returns (see tigers). But if you just need to get rid of the salary? It isn't hard.

flashback 2015: White sox sign David Robertson to 4 year deal worth $46 million. It worked out fine! Liam Hendriks is significantly better than David Robertson was, in a better offensive environment. But sure, draw a line in the sand.

yes they are, they are mentioned as the one that's assumed as the favorite but there are a lot of suitors that could jump in.

2020 NBA Offseason Thread
Yeah I don't see Coby as being able to actually run an offense based on what he's shown. However, his defense has shown more flashes. We'll see, bulls still don't really seem to be "running" anything which is understandable considering how little practice time they've had with a new staff.

I get it but Pomeranz had showed about a months worth of pitches. Id add Colome made 10.5 last year, so it’s just an expensive position even for arb. I don’t mind sox going after other arms they like. But if they love Hendriks, and there’s a lot to love, go get him. If they really like Yates or Kahnle or McGee etc and think Bummer is a great bullpen, just build a great bullpen and figure it out.
