  1. There is a difference between having a depth issue in case someone gets hurt and having a depth issue and signing an oft-injured player.
  2. We can absorb his entire 2019 salary a lot better than other teams, that's already an advantage.
  3. But if "he's going to walk" then you are saying sox shouldn't sign betts next offseason.
  4. The thing I don't like about it is he is so unreliable health-wise. Anyone can get an injury, but if he does we are back to the adam engel experience. If he was brought in as another option on a minor league deal thats one thing...
  5. Nice, we've overton window'd you to allow cease (which has been my trade piece)
  6. So ... the sox could just sign him after he tests free agency... Also I have no idea why sox fans feel like they need to only discuss what our GM says they will do and not what the team should do. If Hahn said expensive pitchers are risky, should we just all act like signing Wade Miley is the best path forward?
  7. Exactly. I totally get those that say we should just aim to sign him next year, I don't understand those that just accept him as a rental and we should stay away. If sox decided they were not the sox, there is actually a very favorable market to be team to sign betts next year. Yankees unlikely, Dodgers possible (but I think they will go after rendon/pitching making another splash move unlikely), red sox unlikely if he gets to FA, nats unlikely, cubs unlikely, houston unlikely. Rangers, braves, padres are the teams it's possible go for spending at him. Getting this type of premium talent using the savings from cheaper young good players was kinda why I thought we did a rebuild. I think people are too concerned with making sure 2024-2027 keeps the ride going at the cost of the ride never really starting.
  8. Could be, could also be the new Wade Davis.
  9. This story is the same as the long and awesome globe article that went deep on the trade in 2018. Since then it has felt like the story has changed so that the Sox “wanted” any of the players that are best at the moment, but this just reaffirms the original story that at the point before the trade was consummated Moncada and Kopech were agreed upon and the Sox were pushing for Devers as Thor’s piece.
  10. I would bet he makes more ($) as a reliever than as a starter.
  11. https://www.mlb.com/news/drew-pomeranz-could-be-next-relief-ace https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-pomeranaissance/ I would admit that I kinda missed this revelation on Pomeranz. I knew he had converted to a reliever but not his dominance. His upside could be the perfect bet for Sox position. We’ve been connected to Betances so far, so it would seem we are targeting some higher potential RPs. Update: signed to padres per Rosenthal
  12. The recent article is on the related signs from the dugout, less catchers right? Makes sense they’d focus on that pre playoffs. Really hard to believe that the coppy could get banned for fudging player costs, but this will just be a fine. If they get anything on lihnow knowing or directing, I think he’s out.
  13. I think Yelich benefitted from the juiced ball...but just in terms of his gaudy Hr totals. Still am Mvp level jump
  14. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-offseason-potential-scenarios heres a bad article that has Betts to White Sox. The Texas for Bryant deal is terrible.
  15. And you think they would make less if they played the field? Because the player that made the most in total guaranteed money on that list signed still playing the field. How much does Giancarlo Stanton make? Congrats though on getting to make a list of players.
  16. FYI updated for abreu/osich/goins/smith
  17. EEs contract was quite low. He turned down 4/80 from the blue jays only to get 3/60 on the market. And JDM still played RF. great examples.
  18. They could just trade him in year 4.
  19. Man Hunter passed the eye test, that's a bit surprising to me. White has probably had some easier assignments than him.
  20. JR has entered a rebuild and traded with the cubs several times while owner. Hahn's checklist gimmick is idiotic. If he believes those checklist items align with winning then he needs to explain why they hadn't done them before. If he thinks they aren't, then why should we care? It's meatball theatre.
  21. Except aligns 100% with 30 years of public declarations and actions that JR hates long term deals with pitchers.
  22. all of fegan's pieces the last week and a half have been excellent.
  23. Since this is the Coby White thread...this kid has a motor on offense even without the ball. It's so helpful for that second unit.
  24. Astroball had an entire chapter on this, about Beltran catching his “tip”. I 100% think it’s bullshit now.
