But Witt has also been a consensus top player for a while, and we don't specifically know that being on Abrams means sox have him above Witt in the same way we can now assume they have him ranked higher than Vaughn.

Cashner averages 5.1 innings per start. He has 144 innings to go before 187. That means he would need to pitch in 35 games this year to hit that, which is impossible. Even when he was good he never hit 187 ip in a season.

It’s not a good record but in his defense he was hamstrung in being forced to only pay recommended slot while also picking often in the back half of the first round. Hahn has been fortunate to draft under a CBA much more favorable to our owners stone tablet commandments. Of course if I was hamstrung in the draft I’d have went all in on international scouting and not hand the operations over to a criminal.

It’s not “in the hopes of”. It’s really not a different concept at all than best player available.
