https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker Man I hadn't gone back and looked. Walker's bonus sticks out like a sore thumb. You have to go up to Jackson Kowar at 31 to find a college player that surpasses that. Their valuation of players is so weird. Could have definitely gone after more of the high school starting pitching last year (Torres, etc) from rounds 2-4 if they had spent only 1.3 on torres.

cash considerations baby.

I enjoy how nothing ever happens, nothing exists. -

I see baseball season feeling a lot like baseball offseason so far. -
Jackson signed for 1.1 million, walker signed for 2...?

Ha, yeahhhh, and the whole diamondbacks situation makes me imagine even if we target a prep they'll be gone. Still so bummed we didn't draft jeremiah jackson last year.
-
Yeah one dimensional was a dumb way to say it. Meant just that I worry he will be such a liability on defense his first few years until he builds up more technique and strength.
-
Steady improvement, you just kinda hope he develops some more power. Definitely a guy that helps get you a nice deadline reliever.

Eloy hits a wet baseball with such force that the negative and positive particles of water create a large spark that sends lightning into the sky but thankfully nobody is injured and they rule it a ground rule double. -
So any fun 2nd round names? I don't know what a good swing looks like, so I typically just look at the 10 names above and below our slot and pick the profiles that I enjoy most: - Matthew Lugo, Prep SS, according to notes, better defensively than offensively at this point but athletic and good speed. 6'1 and 185 - Jimmy Lewis (this guy is all over the place, Law loves him because he copy pastes any protypical sized pitcher into his top 20). 6'6 210 lb prep righty with low 90s fastball and 3 pitches - Jack Leiter - Prep RHP, best curveball in class - go back to bloodlines - Kyren Paris - Prep SS - youngest player in draft - Seth Johnson - RHP - Converted infielder showing plus stuff in Juco, seems like a nats pick to me.

It always sucks when a guy is about to start his career and gets derailed by injury after injury. I hope he can make something out of this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Remillard is 3b in W-S. Maybe trey m. will get the call up to Charlotte.

Looks like all the spring training handwringing on catchers hitting fifth was not indicative of the season. -
I'm a little concerned that something else is going on. Hope he's okay.

I don't know that it exists yet, mostly informed speculation. Fegan had Sosa and Bush there per Getz.

FS: White Sox Interested in signing Cuban SS Yolbert Sanchez

Yeah, it sucks but I think people forget how successful they were for a 4 /5 year period. -

Definitely, it is the orioles, but they have spent to get a new executive team and made some good moves this offseason in terms of infrastructure. It's just surprising that low hanging fruit like this isn't being used. OR they also may just not like this guy and are trying to trade their space for a prospect and feel like they have leverage. -
I'm still kind of amazed that no college pitcher made a "leap". In general the helium of prospects seems very muted this year (still early but not that early).

I have no idea what they are doing. My only guess, considering how they have whiffed on victor victor and all the rest the last two years when it seemed like they were in the cat-bird seat, is that they have a terrible reputation that keeps sending these players to other orgs. Although terrible reputation may also just mean not playing the game the way others are, nudge nudge, wink wink. -
Fernando Tatis Jr. trade burns more than the loss in the Machado sweeps

Ultimately and unfortunately, we are going to be dealing in counterfactuals on this. -
Rules for your employer and laws for the government are two different things, and regardless, baseball moving away from its embedded gambling was probably a great thing for the sport even if it sucks for the white sox franchise.

I think there is an argument to be made for confidence level and how that can get effected, but in general playing against the best competition seems to work. It may not lead to optimal production in their first year, but outside of optimizing production during team control, I find it unlikely that it makes achieving their potential less likely. We aren't talking about throwing 19 year old A-ball players in the majors, where they will get shelled while they develop for 3 years. But when we are talking about preferring an additional 2-3 months of AAA time, I just don't buy it's that important outside the question of team control. -
The latest effectively wild interviews the writer/editor behind the project: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectively-wild-episode-1353-the-show-goes-on/ The most interesting part to me - apparently the whole reason the legal investigation began was due to a game a year later where the cubs threw a game, leading to it being picked up by legal authorities and then yadda yadda.

Yeah, Lambert is definitely the pitcher to watch. I had kinda assumed basabe would be in AAA but they likely will not push him after an injury that much (though he, more than any other prospect, seems to be undeterred by failing initially at a new level then figuring it out)
