Yes it was.
-
Well, if he does that, it isn't the fans you should be upset with.

Right, and as confident as I am right now, I do wonder if a 5/150 deal from the yankees came back in play if that isn't more attractive than a 7/200 and if Manny, tired of waiting for sox to budge, just signs.
-
Yes, and you can see why with him. Good exit velocity on hits, great arm in right. Good speed on basepaths... and yet never put it together.

all I could think of when I saw that was this

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/ct-spt-white-sox-manny-machado-netflix-20190114-story.html Rosenthal (media critic at trib) noting the idea of signing manny in prep for network "launch". One of the reasons I'm so determined to see sox succeed is I do think this was a major part of their rebuild. I believe that Hahn sold Reinsdorf on the rebuild by saying the sox would use their assets to get a glut of young talent, allowing them to get one of the whales of 2018 (when it looked better than it did now), and would more quickly be able to build a winner than trying to improve at the margins, largely stuck with a poor farm and exhausted payroll. The gains of the youth took a hit through injury and developmental sluggishness last year, the gains from fa can't take a similar hit.

It just seems like 8/260-270 as everyone is saying is that goldilocks compromise position and high enough that others won't get there with philly out. This is all fun but I'm really not that worried. You ain't turning down 7/230 for 2 for 80, it's a massive offsetting risk. Sox are just above that "eff it" threshold and that's good but they'll have to go up a bit and they know it and machado will have to go down a bit and they know it and all will be well.

Reads "philadelphia phillies sign"... proceeds to panic "former braves outfielder" oh ok

I find the way bulls have treated Lopez as rude. I know people feel like he's getting paid anyway. But you only get so many years of your life you can play in NBA, bulls benched for half the year last year and now this. Let the guy go.

SoxTalk seems to continue to look at too much depth as a problem when none of the best teams in the league seem at all concerned about it (especially with 10 day dl).
-
It's funny because last offseason I remember the CW on Machado was he would play for whoever pays him, then this offseason switched to he just wanted to be a yankee for a while. I think last offseason was probably correct, and they just wanted Yankees to be an involved bidder. Anyway seems like Machado is trying like hell to milk the sox out of whatevers left and I feel good about that. edit: despite us feeling 200 mill is low, it's still a very high number for a mystery team to suddenly cobble together when it was unanticipated.

You know what signing I liked? Twins signing Pineda last year. He would have been a really interesting piece to see recover this year and then either re-sign or trade.

FS Podcast: JJ Cooper of Baseball America on the ChiSox system
bmags replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I love Cooper. He falls in love with college prospects too much, but the guy just loves baseball. That whole BA crew is incredible with how much they get around and still write with passion. -
Oh I think teams are willing to pay 30 mill for the prime years of a contract and can get pulled into the tail ends of the contract, what I don't believe is only taking a 2 year contract getting the AAV you wants will open up more opportunity for the age 29-34 years of your contract. You may be faced again with shorter deals than you want and lower AAV. There is no guarantee. Also injury.
-
Holland learning the great trick of signing with the white sox to bottom out your career, then regaining form the next year and getting a nice contract. I do not particularly like this trend of sox free agent signings either ending upt he next year out of baseball or much better than when on sox.
-
eh, despite rhetoric I'd guess most in this thread feel better than they ever have about signing machado and are just annoyed at process.
-
Feels like we've been saying this for 3 straight years. A bunch of teams re-set their luxury tax for this year and salaries had been cleared for this free agent period. i don't know that it will be better.
-
If the white sox were offering insulting offers, the phillies would have signed him by now.
-
Eh, things happen not at all and then really quickly.
-
Well, regardless, I don't care about the price of the offer as much as its the sox that acquire him. Have not seen anything threatening that with all of this reporting.
-
White Sox now "Manny..Ma Machando? Machado? Oh I think I heard a him. Met him at a party one. Nice guy, never did bizness tagedder."
-
I think this may be true but I'm going to hold out judgment on him until he proves himself in AA. He's had the least challenging path of all of our outfielders so far.
-
I've said it before but looking back Krause really was planning a modern form of team building that was derailed by: - a truly awful set of years to draft high - a lack of patience He had the right ideas and drafted well, then threw it all away starting with the jalen rose trade, and making a push to get better in the first draft year that would have changed the franchise for a generation: 2003. Where the bulls could have drafted Lebron melo or wade, and apparently held onto a vet and did not consummate a trade that would have brought wade and started bringing in more established college prospects. The Paxson era was on.

I think it's close. I'm excited.

I bet Keuchel takes a soft landing either back with stros or with brewers.
