  1. After seeing what Jones signed for today with the Dodgers I think all doubt about whether Kenny would deal with Boras should be erased. If he wasn't willing to top 2 /$36 then we know he wasn't interested in the best CFer on the market because of his agent.
  2. Hey, Kevin Youkilis was a darn good leadoff hitter for a darn good team. He's a smart player. I'd go for a guy like that in a second.
  3. Well, yes, many people are saying it's too late and that Kenny already screwed up. Also, were these 2005 acquisitions all part of the plan 6 months before ? I doubt it. Lastly, 5 years of a bad farm system - how about 10 ?
  4. just released. He's only 25 and 2 years removed from a monster season. Might be worth a pickup - plays all infield positions. Not great D but might be good platoon with Richar and utility backup. Great bat, wonder if he's a juicer. Anybody ?
  5. just a little history to bring you back in off the ledge: 12/08/04 signed Dustin Hermanson 12/09/04 signed Jermaine Dye 12/13/04 traded C.Lee for Pods and Viz 12/17/04 acquired Bobby Jenks 12/22/04 signed El Duque 1/06/05 signed A.J. 1/19/05 signed Pablo and Widger 1/27/05 signed Iguchi
  6. I really like Richar and think he'll turn out to be a really good hitter but for this year I would like to see him platooned a bit with a Loretta type against lefties. Also, just in case, does anyone know how he does at stocking oranges ?
  7. How many more solo home runs, 5 ? How many more double plays ? Maybe less. I'm not advocating it because you give up the opportunity to manufacture runs with the stolen base, the bunt, the hitting the opposite way etc. Although the idea isn't ridiculous, a team would still be better off with the ability to manufacture runs at the top of the lineup.
  8. I was thinking more like Carlos Silva and that would make us better clearly adding Rios and Silva and losing Danks.
  9. Why do people think Fuku will be so great ? His numbers look just like Iguchi's did. In fact Iguchi stole over 40 bases twice over there and this guy never came close to that. Iguchi's BA, OBP and extra base hits were all very close to this guy. I've seen projections for him that look pretty average. He likely would hit .265-.275 with OBP around .350. Maybe 15-20 homers and he's coming off of elbow surgery.Sorry, but I'd rather give the same money to Rowand. Besides, the Sox have so much trouble against LHers that I'd rather have a righty. I'd pass on both of them but I'd take Rowand for the same money.
  10. Yes ! Because Kenny Lofton is the last piece of the puzzle. No, seriously, it's not a bad idea if the Sox were close to winning this thing but they're not. Therfore, I would rather have Owens, Anderson or Sweeeny playing.
  11. I'm sorry, I'm not sure that I heard any opinions on this. Do you think the Sox should trade Danks and Gio for Rios ?
  12. I'd be fine right now if KW said that they decide to rebuild - just as I would've been in July. It makes a lot more sense than what he's been trying to do. Trade Fields, Gio, Danks and Sweeney for Cabrera - and then play him in LF ? That's just stupid. Why, are the Sox just one LFer away from being the best team in baseball ?
  13. Apparently, the Jays are prepared to send him to the Giants for either Matt Cain or Tim Lincecum - the Giants choice. I know that Danks might not be either of them but what if the Sox added Gio ? Rios is 3 years away from free agency and can play CF. Would you send Danks and Gio for Rios ? The Sox could sign a veteran starter for 2008. sorry - didn't see a Rios post already
  14. The biggest problem with this thinking, if true, is that even if Hunter took the Sox money and if the Sox got Cabrera for Fields, Gio, Danks etc. they still wouldn't have gotten anywhere. The pitching isn't good enough as it is - the rotation or the bullpen and that's before unloading Gio and Danks. BOTTOM LINE: Kenny thinking that the Sox had a good chance to win this year was a joke. If his judgement is that bad maybe it's time for new blood.
  15. I give Kenny props for this. I don't blame Kenny for the Fla.- Detroit deal. Willis isn't going to be succesful in the AL and I don't doubt what Ozzie said. Even if Fla. took Kenny's offer for Cabrera, the Sox would not have competed for the division title this year and it would've killed the team long term. I'm glad they didn't do the deal. What bothers me about Kenny is that he refused to admit this year that this team needs a rebuilding and that the 2007 Sox were nowhere close to being a championship caliber team and a couple of trades and signings were not going to change that. He seemed to have forgotten/ignored that 10 years of wasted draft picks have now come around to kill this franchise. Rebuilding is the only way. Maybe, he'll start now and stop wasting more money to finish in in the same spot. I doubt it. Be happy with 2005. I am.
  16. Kenny's going down in flames. He's way too bull-headed to admit his mistakes and start re-building now. He's looking very desperate and I'm sure that he feels that he needs to throw a pile of money at an outfielder in order to save face. I'm a Rowand fan but I wouldn't give him 4/55. This fukudome might not be any better. His numbers in Japan look a lot like Iguchi's. For the BILLIONTH time JONES is a Boras client. Good night. I would prefer to see Kenny not sign a CFer. I would prefer to see him start thinking toward the future and trade Konerko now and not sign anymore free agents. Trade Crede, Uribe, Aardsma, MacDougal and Masset for prospects. When Contreras pitches well in the first half of the season unload him. In the end, it will be easier to live with finishing in 4th or 5th place with a $ 75 mil. payroll and our young players intact than finish in the same place with a $ 115 mil. payroll, less young talent and loads of big long term contracts.
  17. Well, if Santana goes to the Red Sox, there will be no Crisp. Fukudome will likely get bid up too high for the Sox. Jones is out of the ? for obvious reasons. Rowand is left with ....... I don't know. What happens if Aaron calls KW's bluff and signs elsewhere ? How does KW build his 2008 World Champions with an outfield of Owens, Quentin and Dye ? He better trade for a front 3 starting pitcher and an elite set-up man to have a chance.
  18. Looks like he has a decent minor league bat. If his glove is any good then it's a good move.
  19. How long before the Nats regret this move ?
  20. It wouldn't surprise me to see this deal go down for Masset or Aardsma. I think it's fair. Burke is a pretty verstatile guy to have on the bench and he can play SS. I'd like to see the Sox unload Crede and Uribe. Richar looks real good to me. I think he'll be fine. Spell him occasionally against lefties and Burke is good for that. Plus, he's a speedster off the bench and along with Owens I would hope hope hope make Ozuna(no defense) expendable. Add one more bench guy with versatility like Burke's and the Sox could have a nice bench.
  21. Yes, I'm way serious. What was Ozuna here for if he couldn't run fast ? Well, that wasn't enough of a reason to keep him in 2005 and now 2 years later coming off a broken leg, he's no doubt slower. Besides, the comparison is a joke anyway - it's a very good player vs. a minor leaguer.
  22. I'm still curious as to why Ozuna is still on this team since he plays no defensive position well, is no longer young and is coming back from a broken leg and was never much of a player to begin with. Wouldn't Mark Loretta be a much better back up plan for 3B, SS, 2B ? He's also played 1B and the OF. The guy was phenomenal 3 years ago and has a very solid proven career and he just turned 36. He's not that old. He sure seems available. The Sox bench seems pretty weak with Hall, Ozuna, Owens, ?
  23. I don't know. Judging by your photograph, those guys look a lot more than twice your age.
  24. I'm with you and if the kid ANY kind of power at all, I would be pushing for the Sox to give him a chance. But, he's definitely not good enough in all of the other areas to overlook only 25-30 extra base hits a season.
  25. I don't know why you guys are so negative ? All the Sox have to do is trade: Fields, Gio, and DLS to Minny for Santana then, Fields, Gio and DLS to Fla. for Cabrera then, Fields, Gio and DLS to Cle. for Sizemore. No FA's. Problem solved.
