  1. Agree with your post. Maybe a Furcal for Jose deal ? Then, Owens is not needed as a starter.
  2. Well, the thing is that you know the Sox will give one spot to either Sweeney, Owens or Fields, miright ? They aren't going to sign Jones or Hunter or anyone else wanting $ 80 mil. + Dye and Rowand both will sign at a discount so why not ? What's the alternative ? Trade for a good outfielder ? Ok. But, they only have so much that they can afford to trade. If they do that, then I guess the infield is set as it is now. If we have 2 young guys in the OF, then why aren't we embarking on a complete rebuilding process ?
  3. Why risk $ 7 mil. on having this kid for 4 years and beyond when you could risk $ 30 mil. on Contreras for 3 of his old age years. Do you realize we could sign 4 guys like Porcello for the one deal we made for Jose. I'm just saying that the Sox should be taking risks like this. By comparison, these are small risks. Compare giving $ 126 mil. to Zito, $ 118 mil. to Soriano, Jones, Hunter, etc. If you can get one of the top 3 picks in the draft each year by risking $ 7 mil. wouldn't it be worth it ? I think I would do it every year.
  4. We want to collect as many low OBP guys as we can that way our pitchers won't get too comfortable working with all those runs. You always want to keep the pressure on them.
  5. You're way overestimating that team. No way could they stay out of the cellar with a starting rotation like that.
  6. Both -assuming one of the outfield starters will be Owens or Sweeney. If the Sox can't afford 2 Major League outfielders, they should be contracted.
  7. Thanks for the info. guys. I do see that he was the 2nd round pick of Texas back in 2000. The Sox may have found someone of value here. I would really like to see him play in Chicago.
  8. If the White Sox wanted to increase attendance, fan interest, revenues etc. they would hire Steve Stone and re-hiring John Rooney would be a good thing also.
  9. I'm becoming intrigued by his performance this year. I've never seen him play but I'm beginning to wonder if this kid could become a good roster filler for the Sox. It seems to me that he might be in the mold of a Theriot or Fontenot like the cubs have. Must be something about those French names. Anyway, I'd like to know who has seen him play? It appears that he can play 2b, SS and CF. I don't know how good his defense is but he can hit and get on base, has a little pop and can clearly steal bases. He's young and durable. Could he replace Ozuna ? Is he a good bunter ? I'd love to see him on the Sox for a few games . Anyone think he'll get the chance ?
  10. Heads are you ok ? You're not out drinking at the neighborhood tavern, are you ?
  11. I'd say his biggest concerns would be, firstly, the shortage of talent at the Major League level and secondly, the utter dearth of talent at the Minor league levels.
  12. I think this article is proof positive that the Sox will be signing ARod, Tori Hunter and Aaron Rowand....probably Curt Schilling and Eric Gagne also.
  13. If I'm the White Sox - NO EFFING WAY DO I KEEP JOE CREDE ! Play Joe at third all spring to show that he's healthy and trade him the first chance you get. If you don't get an offer in March then let him play into April and trade him as soon as you can. Do not keep Joe Crede ! His back will be a problem again and there is no chance to re-sign him anyway with BORASS. Good bye Joe - adios !
  14. That's why Pablo Ozuna is so valuable. I don't know I just wanted to post something
  15. I think Thome and Konerko will both be nack next year for 2 reasons. 1. The Sox need their bats. There just is so little offense on this team without them. 2. I doubt there was a big offer out there for Thome or Kenny would seriously consider taking it. I haven't heard one rumor related to Thome being traded. I happen to like the idea of keeping him around for another 2 years. Yes, he has occasional nagging injuries but he still plays a lot of games and is a HUGE offensive force when he plays. The Sox can hang onto him 2 more years and they have no better alternative. Defensively, Konerko isn't great but he is definitely decent if not good. Of all the serious problems with this organization, Konerko and his defense isn't one of them. If the Sox could surround these 2 , Dye and A.J. with Fields, Richar and 3 more very athletic guys with speed and a good OBP, this offense would be very good. But, they need to seriously acquire 2 good outfielders and a good SS without giving up much. Don't ask me how because most of their trading chips have gotten injured or underperformed i.e. Contreras, Crede, Sweeney, Anderson, Haeger, MacDougal, Dye, Pods,Phillips, Erstad etc.
  16. A guy that can't live without a bat , ball and a glove - that's what I'm talking about ! Keep him !
  17. Does anyone here still go on WSI ? I'm just curious if the posters there are still defending Erstad ? And, the bullpen ?
  18. I can't see why you wouldn't give Floyd the rest of the season. It's only about 10 starts. He needs that and the Sox need that to make a decent evaluation. The Sox already know what they have in Contreras and Haeger. Gio and Egbert are not ready yet. They haven't pitched above AA and Gio is only 21. Why push them ? If I had to pick one, I would pick Egbert. He's older and has a more command at this point.
  19. Oh man do I miss Bee Bee Richard ! I saw him tag up and score from SECOND base on a deep fly ball to center field!
  20. well I still think we could get : Ron Karkovice Wimpy Jason Dellaero Carl Everett Sandy Alomar Sr. Vince Evans Al Bundy Eddie Gaedel
  21. You're out of your mind. That's a pipe dream ! Dye's still getting traded but the deal is taking so long because it's been expanded. BA, Uribe and Dewon Day are going with Dye to Detroit. The Sox get Granderson, Verlander and Jason Grilli. Then, Kenny trades Granderson to the Dodgers for Luis Gonzalez, Jeff Kent and Nomar in a brilliant 3 for 1 swap ! Then, he trades Verlander to the Padres for Maddux and Wells again getting more back for the Sox. Ofcourse, Grilli becomes the Sox key set-up man.
  22. You think he'll move through the organization that quickly ?
  23. that would play for the Sox at a discount. I'll start with some ideas: Ron Leflore Rock Raines Ralph Garr D.B. Sweeney Oney Guillen Ribbie Rhubarb Jenny McCarthy Am I missing anyone ?
