Why can't we raid Pittsburgh ?
WHITESOXRANDY replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I don't think that it would take that much because i don't think Pitt. wants to pay Bay's salary in the next couple of years. Pitt. has lots of young pitching. The problem is the matchup because the Sox don't have much of anything else to offer. But, I would think that Anderson would be part of the package. I was thinking Anderson, Mackowiack and 2 bullpen guys. I think that would be worth it for the Sox. -
I can't believe that people are actually discussing this. Dye for Lidge ? Are you kidding ? Kenny Williams would carry Dye on his back to Houston if they agreed to this. And, the next day Tim Purpura would be out of a job. Do you know how many teams would want Lidge as a closer and have been hot on him all year. The Red Sox would gladly give up more for Lidge than they would have for Buehrle. And, right now Dye can't bring the Sox squat. No way will they get anything close to the level of Lidge for Dye if and when they do trade him. Right now he is a banged up slow 33 y.o. outfielder batting .220 with and OBP below .300.

Garland is good and so is Buehrle but I would put Erstad, Fields and Konerko ahead of them. Contreras might be up there as well. Dye and Thornton were basketball players. I would rank Konerko third only because of the speed issue. Erstad or Fields. Fields is younger and I guess his baseball development in the next few years may change our opinion on this. Both must be very competitive. This is where I might consider Erstad's grinderness to be a plus.

Why can't we raid Pittsburgh ?
WHITESOXRANDY replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
You're right not too many. I will just never forget that the flubs got Ramirez for free basically and they got Kenny Lofton thrown in. Every time I really think about Ramirez it just burns me up that the Sox didn't get him. I guess because he was on my personal radar at the time and wishing the Sox could get him and then the flubbies pick him up for a box of balls. Also, Oliver Perez is another guy that I thought the Sox should have gone after. I do like Bay a lot and his salary is not that low. I think some team will get a good deal on him. -
Can't imagine why they would trade him now. What could he bring in return ? I'd rather keep him for a couple of years and see if he can turn into Wakefield. Then he'd have a lot of value for the Sox or other teams.
-
My guess is that most promotions will wait until the first week in August until after the Sox have completed their plan for the rest of the season.
-
Why is that other GM's have taken advantage of the Pirates like Hendry gut Ramirez and Kenny Lofton for nothing. Shouldn't Kenny be able to talk Pitt. out of Jason Bay ? Isn't he getting too expensive for them ? Anybody knkow anything about what's going on with the Pirates ? I'd like the Sox to take advantage of some of these cash poor teams and get a couple of good players. I think Bay would be great in LF for the Sox.

How about Matsui for 2B next year?

I'd rather play Richar and spend some money on some outfielders than can mash. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How do you know that? I am dying for some good updates of info, if you have story to link to. Well, firstly, lots of teams would love a healthy productive Dye but he doesn't exist. That's why he's still on the Sox. They would love to unload his salary and get nice prospects for him like they anticipated at the beginning of the season. But, since he isn't playing and when he has he's been lousy there is no deal in the works. Right now draft picks look better unless he heats up in a hurry they might keephim. As far as second base, well there is just few teams that need one and he hasn't played great either. Also, the Sox might keep Iguchi. HAEGER : I like him.....as a starter....can't see how he can help much in the pen unless it's just to eat innings and not wear out those guys. Which I guess is a good idea now that I think about it. It doesn't look like they'll get much better down there or much help is coming and if they trade a starter it will put even more strain on the bullpen.
-
It is true that the Sox are under no pressure to make any deals. Nothing much is being offered for Dye or Iguchi. They could wait 3 weeks and see if it gets better or hold onto them and see what happens.....re-signings, draft picks, arbitration, later trades etc. HOWEVER, I don't think that Kenny has the nature for that. He will want to make some deal for both the thrill of it as well as to shake things up a little. Something will go down this month. I would bet on it.

It's ok with me if you start over. I'm thinking tonight after about 9 p.m. is good for me. Good luck and thanks for all your efforts. I'm sorry that I never said thanks for the site before today. I'm a little ashamed of myself. Good site. I appreciate being able to access it and be a part of it.

I just hope that it happens in Cleveland.

I think if Jose is even decent in his next couple of starts that he could still bring back a pretty good return. He's listed at 35 but it's pretty well known that he is actually 37 - not 50. Even at his worst his a good 4th or 5th starter. He can handle pressure situations and has playoff experience and success. I think a lot of teams would like him in their rotation - this year and next. I believe that he can bring back 2 good prospects or one great one. Look what some of these teams have paid for starting pitching in the past and lesser pitchers than Jose. We'll see.

Should the Sox consider standing pat?
WHITESOXRANDY replied to VAfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I agree with most of that. Basically, if a team can't draft and develop players and isn't willing to spend on top tier free agents, then what else is there other than the trade market ? The Sox are going to have to do a lot of trading if they hope to make a contender out of this team. -
My guess is that Pods and Erstad are traded by July 31st and Sweeney and Anderson are up for the rest of the year playing full-time. Dye might not be traded - if they can't get a decent offer they might just take the draft picks. I think Contreras will be traded. Javy will be kept. Garland will be offered Buehrle's deal. If he won't give the Sox a discount, I think the Sox trade him in the winter. I think that Iguchi will not be traded ONLY because they won't be offered much for him. So, they may just take the draft picks. They will surely bring up Richar. If they don't like him, maybe they re-sign Iguchi. Dealing for Orlando Hudson makes no sense since he'll be a free agent after next year and he'll be gone. I don't see how keeping Iguchi will bring the Sox Fukudome. It hasn't brought anyone here yet. Unless there is another good player that is flying under the radar. If the Sox have to outbid a bunch of teams - forget it. There's too much interest in Fukudome for the Sox to get him. Anyway, I think that Sweeney and Anderson will be part of the 2008 Sox outfield along with Rowand and another young player acquired via trade. The 2008 rotation will be our big 3, Danks and Floyd /Gio or possibly less Garland and a young pitcher acquired in his trade. That's my guess.

Mariners looking to lock up Ichiro long-term
WHITESOXRANDY replied to iamshack's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I generally like Kenny Williams as a GM. Kenny will look into just about every player or deal that might help the Sox. But, taking a look at some player or deal is far far far away from shelling out the big bucks to do the deal. People have to remember his M.O. He doesn't pay top dollar or outbid a stack of teams for top tier free agents. He's always looking for a bargain. Look at his history: There was almost no competition for Iguchi. A.J. had a horrible rep and teams were cool on him. Teams were cool on Dye due to injury history but still had better offers than the Sox. Konerko and Buehrle are here only because those 2 people were willing to accept less money to play for the Sox. That's also why Magglio Ordonez is not here. It's been known for several years that Crede would be gone after next year - even if he would have been healthy and playing well because.....his agent is Scott Boras and the Sox don't deal with him. End of Story. So, what this means is that the Sox will not be getting AROD, Andruw Jones, Ichiro, Torii Hunter, or any other big name expensive free agents. Note: I'm not blaming Kenny or the White Sox for this philosophy. I'm just saying this is the way they operate. Either they'll trade for a top player or sign a free agent at a bargain rate. -
Because other than Rowand, I don't know any reason for any other free agent to give the Sox a big discount. Therfore, they won't be coming here unless KW can get that player at some kind of bargain rate - see Iguchi, Dye, A.J., Buehrle etc.

Darn, if only he and all of the other free agents would be willing to accept much less money to play for the Sox , we could have a great lineup. -
Hunter Ponders Future With Sox
WHITESOXRANDY replied to Chisox_fan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Could the Sox win the division next year if: They dumped Contreras, Pods, Dye and Iguchi and signed Ichiro, Hunter and Rowand ? Personally, I think Hunter for 4 / 48 is a bargain - he'll get more than that. But, this lineup looks like a winner to me: Ichiro, Rowand, Thome, Hunter, Konerko, Fields, A.J., Richar and Uribe Find some bullpen help and they could be right there. The payroll would be what ? $ 115 mil. ? With an outfield of Rowand in LF, Hunter in CF and Ichiro in RF, they would sell out every game. -
My 2008 team would look just like the Detroit Tigers wearing Chicago White Sox uniforms.

What would Thornton bring in a trade?
WHITESOXRANDY replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Do you think he could bring back a really good relief pitcher ? The Sox could use one of those. -
How far would you take the 'fire sale'?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This team is bad right now, but you are telling me there is no chance this team finishes above 4th in the next 5 years? I don't think you could say that about ANY team, let alone one with this much talent. I said they won't finish ahead of Detroit, Cleveland AND Minnesota.....meaning they won't be a playoff team. No chance to win this division. Nor will they win the wild card. No realistic playoff chances for the foreseeable future equals complete rebuilding in my opinion. I'm sure Kenny won't agree with this. We'll see what happens. -
Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal

Hmm...for Wily Mo I'd be willing to give up Mackowiack and Cintron. -
How far would you take the 'fire sale'?
WHITESOXRANDY replied to thedoctor's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I can't see the White Sox having any chance of finishing ahead of Detroit, Cleveland and the Twins anytime in the next 5 years so I would take the fire sale all the way - trading everybody before next season that makes a $ 1 mil. and Jenks also, since he would bring some good value back. I would trade our players not for the most prospects but for the best ones. I wouldn't be very interested in draft picks since the Sox suck at picking them and don't like to sign them. I'd be happy to come out and watch Danks, Floyd, Gio, Fields, Sweeney, Anderson, Richar and about 12 more like them.
